Homestar was a major highlight of my adolescence so seeing this gave me ALL the feels. My older sister's then-boyfriend even once tasked me with the dangerous mission of sneaking in my sleeping sisters room at midnight on her birthday to turn off her cellphone while her boyfriend (now husband) called and left about a dozen homestarrunner-styled voicemails to make it her own birthday homestar answering machine. It was epic.
Worst part of YT homestar runner cartoons are the lack of the easter eggs! Finding all the secrets in each SBemail was the best part, I was raised by cup of coffee, T'was the pride of the peaches... Great video Reggie ;)
I always wondered why they didn't use the annotation system. It's gone now, but it would have worked back then. I even considered reuploading a vid as a proof of concept.
They show the Easter eggs in the videos for the old toons/emails, they basically just autoplay. If you mean the new ones though, yeah, it sucks they won't be able to do Easter eggs going forward.
@Samantha: Sure, but the fun of Easter eggs is finding them. Having them show at the end is better than nothing, but not as much fun as stumbling on one. @Mario: I hope that means they're converting the videos, too. I mean, they do have them on RUclips, so they might not think it is important to have them in HTML5. Even if all they did was play the RUclips video, but code the Easter eggs to work like they previously did, that would be amazing.
I'm in the Peasant's Quest was my first adventure game club. Besides the Rugrats Adventure game actually. My friends and I would work together to try to solve the puzzles, it was so exciting to meet them at school with all of my new discoveries and hear about all of theirs.
Here's some other interesting trivia. Matt Chapman worked on Gravity Falls. In fact, he plays Soos's grandmother. Keep in mind, Matt is also Strong Bad's voice actor. They also have a board game based on Trogdor currently up on Kickstarter. Looks pretty amusing.
Matt voices all the male characters, except for a select few; like Teeg Dougland- voiced by Mike and the Limozeen members- voiced by Donnie. Mike is also the voices of the characters in The Cheat's computer cartoons.
I keep focusing on Mermando and forgetting he was Abuelita too. you can hear a little of A. Chimendez in there. "I must see you happy and married before I go to live with the angels" "and Grandpa!" "No.. he is not there."
I still love Homestar. I discovered it in the early 2000s when I was in graduate school. I showed it to my daughter, who immediately loved it. We watched all the cartoons together and used to spend HOURS playing Stinkoman, Awesomecross, and Trogdor. I have a Homestar poster on my desk at school (on the front) and a full set of Cheat Commandos. My students don’t know who any of these characters are.
Coach Z: "Oh, I'd definitely say it's just a result of tight pants." Homestar: "Oh... tight pants!" *Strong Bad uses his blue diamond thing to knock Homestar's hat off* Homestar: "Ooh! *bends down and picks his hat up* Sorry about that. What were we talking about?" Coach Z: "The tightest of pants." Homestar: "Oh, right. Tight pants." *Strong Bad knocks Homestar's hat off again* Homestar: "What the...?" *picks it up again* Coach Z: "You okay there, Homestar?" Homestar: "I dunno. Is my head getting bigger?" *Strong Bad knocks Homestar's hat off again, and he picks it up again* Coach Z: "Once again, I point the blame squarely at tight pants."

I'm so glad you made this, it's always really great to hear people other than me talk about Homestar Runner with such pure reverence and love. I have a long, long history with the site and I can't imagine my love for it will ever die. There really is something special about it that makes it stick with you. Are you planning on doing a separate video on SBCG4AP?
I adored this as a young'in and still adore it to this day. My text tone for more than 10 years now has been Bubs saying "Oh uhhhh I'm a public flasher!" It's worth all the weird looks in the world.
My husband and I have so many "inside jokes" of phrases from SBEmail, etc between us that my kids dont get. It's great. Nearly 20 years since my introduction to HSR and they still crack me up to the max!
Like you, I watched all of these as I discovered them (I discovered SB somewhere before SBE email 45 (Techno)), and was thrilled when I saw Peasant Quest. Also I'm pretty sure that 5.25" floppy noise is specifically a Apple II drive noise when it's powered on. It gets the point across. Most Apple II's were connected to Amber or Green composite monitors, so I'd say does a respectable job of at least giving the look and sound of an Apple II as most people who had or used one would have used it circa 1986-1992.
Ahhh, is there anything better than pouring a tall cool glass of Diet Brown taking a bite of a Blubb-O's Thick n Nasty and sitting down to watch some crazy-go-nuts game reviews
I love Homestar Runner, it really connected with me in high school. I remember playing Peasant's Quest everyday after school, it felt like a chance to live the dream of playing games I couldn't before, like King's Quest. I never had a computer, or any game system for that matter, before high school. I also used to send Strong Bad e-mail, never got any of my questions answered though, I think my spelling was too good and left little room for the typical comedy. The site also introduced me to one of my favorite bands, They Might Be Giants, with The Cheat and Strong Sad's music video for "Experimental Film." Ugh, I feel I could write a book, or ten episode docu-series on how much my life was impacted by that silly website by the Brothers Chaps.
The Dangeresque game reminds me of Problem Sleuth, an adventure-game-inspired webcomic where a hardboiled detective is trapped in his office. He meets up with two other detectives in the offices next to his who are in the same situation, and together they have to solve crazier and crazier puzzles as everything spirals out of control. The whole thing was interactive in that readers would send in commands in the style of a text based adventure and the author would have the characters act the commands out. It's good fun if you like things getting silly.
Seeing this brings back the nostalgia feels. Seriously, I used to watch the cartoon all the time when I was feeling down. And the games were fun. I never played Peasant's Quest, but I did play some of the smaller games. One of those games being Trogdar The Burninator! This was a good review and a nice look back to a good flash series. I'm also glad you brought some of their underrated games to light. I really do hope they preserve these games so others can enjoy them. I know I'm going to be spending hours playing Peasant's Quest now.
Homestar Runner is one of the best and purest things to ever come out of the internet. I really started getting into it in 8th grade and early high school (right around the time the site was starting to wind down) and it left a huge impact on me. It's such a quotable show too that hardly a day goes by where something doesn't remind me of a moment from the show.
"It makes me feel warm and fuzzy like mold" XDD Surprised at no mention of that strange Where's an Egg? game they made at one point. I spent way too much time trying to figure that one out (and falied).
I got introduced to this back when the Wii first came out with WiiWare and took a chance on Strong Bad Cool Game For Attractive People. I had no idea how hooked I would become. So cool to once again see that you have enjoyed another weird off the wall franchise as I have. I see there is much more for me to check out in this Homestar world. Thanks for such an awesome video Roses!
I was watching this video again since I love Homestar Runner so much and tried the old site again, and maybe everyone already knows this, but they are converting the old Flash site to Ruffle! Meaning it will work in modern browsers!! There's a message under the Peasant's Quest game saying they're working on getting it working! I'm so excited!!!
Ahhhhh my favorite site on the internet... I've played pretty much every one of their web games over the years .. I distinctly recall spending HOURS playing Marshie Ween .. Sadly Strongbad never replied to the emails I sent him back in the day.. On the bright side, I did get to meet the Bros Chaps in person this year at Pax East! (woo!).. Interesting fact -- one of the Bros actually started developing little Nintendo DS versions of their games and showed them off at the panel.,. It was pretty neat ^_^
You know what they could do with all those games to save them? Re-release them on GoG. Just put them all together as a Videletrix pack, with Peasant's Quest obviously being the main star. "Peasant's Quest! (and a bunch of other games or something)."

YES! Such a massive part of my childhood. I spent hours upon hours watching episodes of Teen Girl Squad and rewatching specific StrongBad Emails that really spoke to my sense of humor. I credit Homestar Runner with my affinity for silly humor ("I'm not gonna lie to ya, that's a healthy piece of real estate!"). So glad it exists, and also so glad this video exists. Thanks for all your hard work, Roses.
This was BRILLIANT. Homestar Runner is a terrific athlete and years later an ongoing source of pure creative joy. This brief peep into the site's games made me remember the several hours I spent after class in my school's computer lab, playing around with Rhino Feeder and such. Peasant's Quest was indeed one of the most memorable games in the site, and I personally recall waiting for it with excitement. A lot of it had to do with the fantastic live action trailer they made for the game.
Pheasants Quest is my favorite! My sister and I still quote it. I’m so happy I’m not the only one who still thinks about this site often. It was my first internet love.
This is one of the best websites in history. Back in the day I could randomly start singing Trogdor and people would join in. I had all their music on my iPod, played all the games, and one of the most fun things was trying to find all the secret buttons to see more stuff.
My sister and I were obsessed with this growing up. Don’t know how we found it but my favorite had to be the marshmallow commercial and teen girl squad! Just so fun and silly. Thank you for this nice reminder.
Peasant's Quest was absolutely my first adventure game and it wasn't until I played Kings Quest 1 years later that I figured out where so many of the game's references came from. Thanks for making this video!
Wonderful video, love Homestar Runner and Strong Bad. The games they made, especially Peasant's Quest, Thy Dungeon Man, and the Dangeresque Roomisode really made this adventure gamer's day.
I loved the site when I first discovered it and I also followed it for the longest time. I really liked hearing you talk about the webtoons and the games as it's easy to tell how much you loved them and your excitement for them showed in the video. May you forever be able to get ye flask.
Great video!! I grew up with all these games too and it was so amazing reliving it watching this. However I’m surprised you didn’t talk more about stinkoman 20X6 with it’s interesting history! The levels being uploaded sporadically and then the final level is never released! Just this year after over 10 years they finally announced they’re gonna finish it.
Thanks for giving this some attention. A lot of people are just discovering this site now because it was a bit of an obsucre idea to go to a website for entertainment in HSR's day. I definitely played these games and toons !! And shared them with friends who came to love them !! Peasant's Quest was definitely the best, but Stinko Man was also very well designed. I also really liked Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People. I am very glad HSR is being preserved on RUclips, and despite the incredible competition for online entertainment these days, I hope the brother's chapp keep on entertaining and supporting their fans. Trogdoooooor !!!!!!
This is such a perfect and dedicated and loving homage to Homestar (Michael) Runner.com! I got into it when I was in college, 2001, and have admired every aspect of it since. Well done!
Are you me? Because I feel like you are. It’s comforting and disturbing at the same time. About 3 years ago I saw a homestar bumper sticker and I was frozen in the moment and had no one to share it with. Wish I had known you then. It was so good.
Man, I played these games when I was younger, especially Stinkoman and Kid Speedy. I also remember trying to play through Peasant's Quest and Thy Dungeonman 3 but ended up using a walkthrough for both of them. I'm kind of surprised you didn't bring up the the game Where's an Egg, but I believe that one is only on Videlectrixs' website. Apparently there were plans for a second Roomisode, but that never happened which is a shame. Great Jorb on the video.
When I found Homestar Runner on RUclips, I was overjoyed. it was the first thing on the internet that I loved and to this day, I still quote the characters.
Never heard of this channel, then I saw your "Hey Dude" retrospective. This is the 3rd video and decided to subscribe and watch future content. This channel is excellent, very well done. Good job.
Hey, I am new to the channel and really enjoy your content :) I absolutely adored Homestar Runner when I discovered it in the early 2000's. Strongbad's emails were always a thing to look forward to, and I died laughing watching the Fluffy Puff commercial bits. I also had a cat named Trogdor. I feel dirty now because I never actually played Peasant's Quest...
Loooove this video!!! My first adventure game was KQ1, I literally learned how to read from playing it as a kid. I was obsessed with Homestar Runner. Peasant's Quest captivated me. Also, I thought Horny was just a sensible name for Willy Beamish's frog.
Im a new subscriber, but i love your content!! Please keep it up. Homestar runner will forever hold a place in my heart. I love how all the emails had easter eggs you could click on. Every week you had to scroll over every letter, every image to find whatever silly thing they hid. Hey!! Are you going to be at the Portland retro game expo?
Yes! Homestar Runner! I played these games so many times- I always used to emphasize with the fat kid running game where the goal was to be Not Last and you never had a chance of winning or even placing. Very much me as a kid.
The baader meinhof effect at full steam! I was just chuckling about the "Wave o babies" gag (from Teen Girl Squad) minutes before checking my subscriptions and voila! a Homestar Runner video :O
Thank you for this! H*R has been a big part of my life since 2002...I can't imagine what my life would be like without these characters! (btw Homsar was always my fav too) (p.s. you shanked my Jenga ship.)
This brings back so many memories. I didn't even know about the Dangeresque game! Also worth mentioning is the trailer for the live action Peasants Quest movie that aired during the Super Bowl* and recreated a ton of scenes from the game including throwing the baby
One very particular Homestar/Videlectrix game for me was Hallrrunner just for how silly the random encounters are. But it was actually my first delve into modding. If you downloaded the SWF file and the XML that should come with it, the XML file contains the encounters and the encounter replies when you try to talk/fight/jump them, and opening that XML into something like notepad and will let you edit them. I must've spent few hours coming up with things that were funny to me, and even if it was something as simple as typing stuff in notepad, it was really fun to get into modding during teenage years like you were doing that computer magic.

I collect those!
So much hilarity and nostalgia here for me. Peasant's quest was my intro to adventure games too. I'd love to see you do a full lp of it.
Peasant's Quest was absolutely my first adventure game and it wasn't until I played Kings Quest 1 years later that I figured out where so many of the game's references came from. Thanks for making this video!
If you've never heard of Homestar Runner, I...I just....feel so sorry for you. -_-
I cannot stress how much I needed this today
Made my Day!!! Love seeing other ppl loved the HSR site as much as I did! :)
You're the best Roses!!! The longevity of Homestar is indeed a bright spot in the sometimes otherwise dark world.
Happy 2020 roses! Just rewatching for the new year!
Omg this takes me back. I love homestarrunner, I still laugh so hard at the different home screens! Thanks for this:)
Thank you so much for putting out such cool content Miss Roses.
I grew up seeing the SBEmails come out weekly, too. Such good times!
I, too, grew up waiting anxiously for a new Strongbad Email to show up every week. BALEEETED!!!!!!!
Colin Moller DELTEATED
What is that stupid word
This is NOT how i expected to see Trogdor again. But im not mad about it 😂
When I found Homestar Runner on RUclips, I was overjoyed. it was the first thing on the internet that I loved and to this day, I still quote the characters.
"I hope I don't asplode"
Never heard of this channel, then I saw your "Hey Dude" retrospective. This is the 3rd video and decided to subscribe and watch future content. This channel is excellent, very well done. Good job.
Was just thinking 'Oo, this was a good video, I'll subscribe'. But turns out I'm already subscribed😂
I never expected to see you do a vid on Homestar but it is the BEST IDEA EVER
Great jorb.
Love all things Homestar. Been too long since I played those games. Seeing your review made me smile.
I love you in a cardboardy, platonic way for doing a video about Homestar Runner! This was the best thing ever when it was hot!
This made me want to replay Peasant's Quest sometime, if possible
Currently playing Strong Bad's Cool Game For Attractive People for my first time
OMG I can only assume you read my post a few days ago about Homestar Runner games and produced this video in less than a week. Thanks!
I love the whole cast on the site! I'm always quoting Strong Bad and Bubs and Coach Z... still love it today! TROGDOR!!
I was always hoping either you or LGR would cover these! Great video, really takes me back.
This was such a huge part of my childhood, I loved it so much.
So glad you reviewed Homestar Runner games. This is a great video.
It's always nice to see fellow connoisseurs of fine flash cartoons from the 2000s.
"This makes me feel warm and fuzzy like mold." I love that. I must use that in real life conversation sometime.
The baader meinhof effect at full steam! I was just chuckling about the "Wave o babies" gag (from Teen Girl Squad) minutes before checking my subscriptions and voila! a Homestar Runner video :O
Ah, memories.......!!!
I always enjoyed their Halloween & Decemberween toons.
It warms my heart to see a homestar runner video in 2018
Thank you for this! H*R has been a big part of my life since 2002...I can't imagine what my life would be like without these characters! (btw Homsar was always my fav too) (p.s. you shanked my Jenga ship.)
Somehow missed out on all of this and my first introduction to Strong Bad was Telltales Poker game.
This brings back so many memories. I didn't even know about the Dangeresque game!
Also worth mentioning is the trailer for the live action Peasants Quest movie that aired during the Super Bowl* and recreated a ton of scenes from the game including throwing the baby
Wonderful, informative vid as ever. Very nostalgic now for Homestar, RatherGood and Joe Cartoon.
CORN CHIPS ARE NO PLACE FOR A MIGHTY WARRIOR.
Oh, so THAT’S what those cartoons were! I saw some in elementary school and could never remember what they were from. Thanks!
So many memories about homestar runner
Thank you for sharing some love with homestar and gang!
Oh man I love being one of the cool kids that follows you on Twitter
Watched your Clue video, and this was suggest. I LOVE Homestar Runner, so can't wait to watch.
