Ordered mine from the Official UK RedMagic site today. They seem to be one of very few Asian brands that stock in the UK and other countries around the world themselves. Really helps avoid extra import taxes and they don't seem to have jacked up the price for different markets. Great screen, big storage, good main cameras, big battery, efficient chip and an ever elusive headphone jack! I'm not really into mobile games but I do travel a lot so watch a lot of downloaded content, wired headphones use a lot less power and of course the notchless/vibrant/hir-res screen on this is perfect for media. I'm sure I'll be very happy.
The Red magic 8s is truly what a gaiming phone should be👌. Love the squared off design and the full uninterrupted flat screen! The under display camera implementation is best put to use here on a gaiming phone. Because so far it seems a long way from being optimized. The stereo speakers are really good and the 90 hz refresh option is spot on. Appart from bugs Nubia have done a great job here. Thank you for reviewing this one Chris Sir✌🙂👍
With Black Shark out of the game and ROG phone priced so high, Red Magic seems like the best choice for mobile gamers, with such a beautiful display and back cover. However the squared off sides doesn't help in holding the phone comfortably while playing games 🤔
The square edges prob wouldn't matter a whole lot if you had a case on it, it'd prob be harder to feel the pointy edge, and you can't really complain when it has triggers and that red button all on the side, and the fact that the phone already sounds like it's pretty compact inside with the cooling and crap. It feels like a perfect gaming device and smartphone besides that, and the only thing that I wish they added was a 144/165hz display rather then 120hz, like on black shark and rog phones.
Great phone. Still got mine my biggest problem is the lack if Android auto. Unfortunately, not fix for that. I'll probably sell it so I can buy and review the Xiaimi Mix Fold 3.
Good Evening, Thanks for The Effort and Review I myself has the Redmagic 8 Pro for a few months now. I would like to highlight a few factors, The battery and performance is highly respectable. The 3.5mm jack is a great addition. It resembles almost like The latest Galaxy Note S23 Ultra series in terms of size and width/shape. The performance I would say that it is on par (or better) considering the price, without the S pen and IP68 and so on. Therfore it is a trade off. Depending on where you are, you could buy 2 Redmagic Phones flagship tier level or 1 S23 Note Ultra. This you have to decide based on your budget. This phone is not for everybody. It is a great phone with a few drawbacks, The camera at the back, my model appears to be very glitchy. Yes it is problematic, this comes from a person who doesn't take photo of himself. I just dislike taking photos of myself. Photos are for work purposes only. So within 7 days or so, please check and return if it has such issues arises. This is case to case basis. Basically mine freezes very often and I can't take photos 70% of the time, I have to restart the phone a few times. And in the gallery, sometimes the taken photos vanish, if you take multiple shots in succession. You have to check to confirm that your photos is really there. So yeah this is my personal experience, not to scare you but please check for such occurrences. It has been more than 4 months so I cannot return it. Maybe I've just gotten a "faulty" model, I can't be too sure. Returning it back to China is quite complicated because my data is in the phone already. And the weight is quite hefty, but the fact you can survive an entire day without finding a charging port, it is a good trade off. This is probably the only phone I have used that I don't have to worry about bringing a battery pack, at all. I'm running 120Hz refresh with no holding back. The no notch screen is also a beautiful move forward into the future. Performance wise, hardware, it's really good. Just don't bring it under wet conditions. It is not a rugged phone like the 14 Pro Max. IP68 is just not very possible yet due to the air vents. It is a 6.1/7 for me. Once again please check the cameras if faults arises, I can't stress this enough. It's as if they focused on gaming performance and forgot about the basic camera functionalities. Hope this benefits someone (31 July 2023)
I posses the redmagic 7 and its still going strong for me except for the battery meanwhile i am not upgrading until the Redmagic 9 is out and thats if it is worth upgrading
Hey Chris, I have a suggestion for a new test category - especially for gaming phones: Touch Input Latency. This is something that phones from ROG struggled with in the past due to using inferior displays with a 23 millisecond long reaction time but also can be something manufacturers mess up with software even if the display is optimized for gaming. The nubia RM 7S Pro and ROG Phone 2 started getting much slower in this regard after updating to a new version of Android in the past for example. Idea for how to test this: Film yourself rapidly swiping left to right with a high frame- and refreshrate in a game like CoD Mobile's training mode (Ultra fps setting, medium or low graphical fidelity) and then slow down the footage. Gold standard should be the latest iPhone / iPad with support for 120Hz. You'd be the only tech reviewer testing this, which is weird because it's one of the most crucial metrics for a gaming phone and phones in general in my opinion.
Personally, Red Magic 8 Pro is already a very good gaming phone, thus no reason for S variant to exist. I would rather wait for Red Magic 9 with SD 8 Gen 3 since SD 8 Gen 4 might be using new Nuvia GPU cores whereas SD 8 Gen 3 is just a minor upgrade to SD 8 Gen 2.
The only problem for Redmagic is their software. Had the RM6 that was a bugfest. Considering what I saw here and the longevity of the support, I'd say they didn't improve much on that department
i ordered the offical redmagic shadow blade gampad but people say it has a right analog stick issue with stock key mapping software . I tested the stock key mapping software with my xbox one s controller and it seems what are they saying is true 😢 It costs me 85$+
Could you run the wild life extreme stress test disabling the fan and give the throttling percentage? I fear that may be the first thing to go over time with nobody able to replace it and getting stuck with lower performance.
Great review, I really want to know how good this phone is for non-gamers though, as the specs are amazing. I dont care for cameras much, so on paper it seems great, but how is the everyday, day to day use like? Would you recommend this as a phone for general day to day use?
Poor cameras for a flagship as mentioned. Every day use well it will be different for everyone if you take a lot of photos and selfies it's not the phone to get. But performance, battery life, screen, 3.5mm headphone jack and just the best gaming mobile there is then yes.
Crazy i was having that exact same glitch with trying to view my pics on my galaxy s23. It seems to working since the last update but it was really annoying for awhile.
@Techtablets maybe it was an actual android issue and not the actual phone? Not sure but My camera still has issues. Like, I'll turn it on and it'll just be a black picture. I'll have to either switch it to selfie mode and back to fix it or just close it and reopen it.
Is it worth it to get for someone that has been using an LG V60 for three years? I don’t intend to play much, but I like the 16gb of ram, and the 528 internal storage. I’m only on the fence because of the camera…. @@Techtablets I'll look at that one... it's a bummer about the Red magic... the V60 has too many things I love that would make it hard to get a device that's mid range I guess, especially cause I intend to get something that can last 3 or 4 years. The main names are way too pricey and I don't even think it's worth it... not 1k worth it at least...

Very useful info yes the cameras are the downside and weakness of the Redmagic gaming phones.
any new update with your issues? or would you recommend this phone for daily usage based on your experience? thank you

IIRC one of the culprit of this is an app that has accessibility service and it has capabilities on either autofill or read the screen.

is the carrier service good with the phone? like is it a reliable 5g connection or is it spotty. because i heard that its missing a 5g mmwave antenna

Is the model you are looking at the global version?
Could you run the wild life extreme stress test disabling the fan and give the throttling percentage? I fear that may be the first thing to go over time with nobody able to replace it and getting stuck with lower performance.
