This is a customer review of a brand new Shimpo VL Whisper Pottery Wheel. This is a 1/2 hp direct drive brushless motor and can center 100 lbs. of clay.
Thank you for the comment. I have started using it and it is fantastic. I really enjoy working on this wheel as it is VERY stable, the pedal is super responsive and you can get very slow wheel speeds if you need. So far I am thrilled and I am glad I spent the extra money to get this higher model. It's been a blast so far and I'm looking forward to owning this for many years to come as I believe it will be around for a long time.
Hi Joshua, I've just bought this Shimpo, but I've found it very difficult to get off the splash pan. It's very difficult to click it out and when it does, I spill a lot of water on the flour. Do you have the same problem? Or is there a trick i don't know about? Or does it become easier while using? Thanks for your answer!
The wheel head does have some friction when the motor is off, not at all completely free spinning when the motor is off. Also, I've spent a lot of time on this wheel and I still think it's great. The foot pedal is not too sensitive and actually is easy to set to a similar speed once you get used to it. So far, I dont have any problems with it at all.
I'm in the market for a wheel and this is one on my list of possibles. After you have had a chance to use it, what do you think about it.? My main concern is the fact that the wheel head free spins when the motor is off. How sensitive is the foot pedal? Thanks for doing the review!
Wow, Nice and quiet! That is a major concern of mine being my workspace is in my basement and there is no sound proofing between the basement and upstairs rooms. Thanks for the review great job also.
Yes it does have a foot pedal as shown in the video to control speed. I forgot the price, but you can look it up at their website. For a professional wheel, it's well worth the price. This type of wheel will last forever if you take care of it.
Why does no one comment on the ability to use this wheel as a turntable? When the wheel is not turning or is off the wheel head free spins making it a great turntable. I know Brent does not offer this feature nor does the Pacifica wheels.
Thanks for the review !!! I'm thinking of buying a wheel my self, but my question to you is does this wheel have the option of controlling the speed without a pedal? If you don't mind me asking, What was the price range in which you purchased the wheel?
Hi i have the Aspire shimpo. it is a little portable wheel and it is a great wheel. I am thinking to go bigger, will this wheel be a good step from the Aspire? thanks
I'm looking to buy one of these myself. I'm just getting into pottery / ceramics and I have the extra money I just don't want to make the wrong purchase people seem to like these I don't know if I should go this expensive this early on however. I have not found a lot of used wheels that look like something that I could trust to last at least a little while so I'm thinking I am just going to go ahead and buy a damn wheel you have any advice?
You can find some good used wheels on Craigslist and other sites, just be sure the wheel is true and spins flat. You don't want to buy a wheel that has a slight bend or tweak, if it's off even a little bit, it will throw off your throwing.
@@JoshuaWriter yeah I'm a machinist well a hobby machine is pretty decent. I was actually going to build my own and then I saw the price of the motors they're pretty ridiculously high. Set up and then you add the controller card and full panel and you talking a lot of money so I figured $1,500 might not be that bad. I don't need the top of the line of anything but I don't want something that I'm going to wish I had head purchase higher if you know what I mean? What strikes me is different about this shimpo is that there is no motor hanging down what kind of motor are they using in this thing I wonder. Does it have the power? Are you very happy with this?
@@JoshuaWriter by the way I've been waiting on Craigslist looking around for months and months and months and haven't found anything unfortunately. In shipping on eBay is terrible. I can get it shipped free to the local ceramics shop and then just pick it up if I buy one new it is a real big consideration
hi friend where are you from because i am from muscat, oman and i am searching for this machine here but i couldnt find it could you help me to find online website to order it online?
So glad to hear all the positive comments in this review! My husband just bought me this wheel for my Birthday in two weeks! I can’t wait!😜
Awesome to hear. This will be a great addition to you.

Yes this is the most quiet wheel on the market, it would work great for a space that doesn't want a lot of sound.

Hi Joshua, Great Video. Quick Question: Is the front leg straight (90') perpendicular to the floor?
Yes. I think it just looks funny on video
