  • Despite living it, filming it, editing and posting it...I frequently find myself coming back to these fast-paced rearload videos for my own entertainment. This hunk of footage I originally relegated to the "2nd best, if I even post it" category, but I'm actually enjoying this more than part 1. And even the first vid remains a bountiful source of entertainment.
    Filmed around this time last year. Parker, Colorado. Give these guys some praise.

    As a garbage man, I would despise that truck because that hopper blade moves so slowly.

    Damn that FL-112 sounded amazing. Guys are pretty fast to, made for some great video. These the only two trucks they run? Great manual action, pretty cool trucks to run on manual routes there. Can't wait to see the next Colorado footage!

    I think I enjoyed this part 2 more than part 1 like you said in the description. Might have been a big 15min video, but I had no urge to skip through at any point, too fun to watch! I bet while filming this you were keen to put the camera away and just jump on with them for the rest of the shift, got some memories here of what you used to do anyway. Did the boss buy all these trucks used or had some since new? Big difference in condition between the Leach and F5000 anyway, one looks battered and the other holding strong... just check out the fucked step at 1:05! How old are these trucks too? I bet these things pack a real tight load too, because the packers were regularly seen slowing up, but you could hear the engines were still powering the pumps! Just noticed on the F5000 that the exhaust runs up through the front of the body, because there's no room behind the cab haha Awesome hearing the Freightliner growling mean again, a real neighbourhood garbage truck! Also loved seeing all those bags of leaves exploding... seems like a lot of those bags are packed with leaves too. That guy at 9:07 was a bloody soldier lifting those crates filled with whatever tiles or other heavy construction shit they were filled with, definitely looked fucking heavy! Is it unlimited set-out over there too? Seems like the residents chuck out whatever they gotta get rid of, the black plastic bags were by far the most popular set-out but. I spotted WM carts at 10:00 - old contractor or stolen bins? hehe Are those baseball bats on the Leach tailgate for protection or recreation too? haha Thanks for sharing more of this footage, honestly really enjoyed the action again!!!

      +MitchellM15 haha funny you say that because I ended up with a surprising LOT of footage, but I was riding along and helping for much _more_ of the time. Did a lot of the loading before I even decided it was a good time to grab video lol All of his trucks were bought used, and most are late-90s model. Oldest one is the Ford-4000 I mentioned in another comment reply, and that one's a 1995. And yes, for this neighborhood at least it's essentially unlimited. Wouldn't nearly be this much out if all the leaves hadn't just fallen. This neighborhood used to be open market, like a vast majority of Colorado's suburban communities are. By that I mean every homeowner chooses from a plethora of trash haulers, WM included, "The Garbage Man" also included, and you end up with seemingly every house with a different trash company and in some cases, a different trash day. Sucks I couldn't have grown up here! That's great and all for the sake of competition and opportunities for entrepreneurship, but people can get tired of having so many different haulers/so many diesel fumes rolling through their streets, and never having a day without some trash cans at the curb. So neighborhoods like this one, once in awhile, gather the authority to mandate everyone use one collection company. When that happens a lot of people hang onto their old company's carts and continue using them once the new company takes over. If WM or Waste Connections wins a contract like that, they'll take all those old carts and replace them with new ones, but small businesses recognize that as sort of a waste and just distribute carts to the people who lack / want them...for example, the cart visible at 8:59
      I think the baseball bats are for defense against dogs, something I've never had much problem with but then again I didn't put them there, so not entirely sure. Could also have been someone wanting to take them home lol...many thanks! Glad my work captivated you for those 15 minutes, always happy to entertain

    Great video Scott! Man, that first truck sounds just fantastic! Love the beastly growly of the takeoff at 2:31 - sharp and loud! What kind of truck is that? What year is it? Does it have a Cummins M11 or a Cummins ISL? Any more footage of that truck? And great job to those guys! They were sure fast and didn't waste any time!

      +GarbageSean Thanks for the comment Sean. late '90s Freightliner FL112 with an M11. Formula 5000 body. It appeared in the first video, so that plus this will constitute what I have to post of that truck.

    Killer sequel. There's a great rhythm to the vid. It doesn't ever get boring so no skipping required. That requires both sold editing (props) and a fast crew. These guys are real garbage men, getting the job done and doing it quickly. Zero down time. The driver of the 2R-II had some especially entertaining tricks up his sleeve: a bin in each hand at 9:24, manually handling a 96 gallon at 10:30, almost thought he was getting ready to toss the cart at 6:45 straight into the hopper lol. Especially enjoyed the stops with a big pile of black bags at the curb, a la NYC but just a teensie bit lighter ;) Cans like at 2:48 seem like they would get annoying, just bag your damn leaves. As for the trucks, both were sweet. The 5000 sounded amazing, just like the Tag Axle McNeilus I used to chase on its bulk route through Golden Gate. The 2R-II had the more entertaining packer, and the one I feel like I'd rather work on. But you prefer the Heil right? Both tippers were solid, nothing worse than a fast crew held back by crap equipment. Might post some more comments after watching it over a few more times, but yeah gooooooood stuff.

      +georgewuzheer Definitely don't prefer this 5000. The one I like has something else wrong with it but is actually fast. (more DSNY feels). The issue with my preferred truck is you have to hold the handle to lower the blade. But think about it - you have to return to the controls anyway to close/raise the blade anyway. It comes down in a mere 3 seconds too, so no biggie. But yeah I have the feeling the red truck is better this year, I know I worked on it a few times this past summer and don't remember it being *this* slow lol
      Lightweight bags are my typa bags lol, way more fun than 50lbs of something that might tear open everywhere. And be disgusting to clean up.
      Thanks for a healthy comment and all the praise. You're right in directing most of it at the two crews, though. Cheers and feel free to share subsequent thoughts ;)

    Where are people getting their carts? I know that the generic black Toters come from the hardware store. But where do you a get a Waste Connections Toter or Waste Management Cascade or one that says "Bagged trash only"?

    • @Trashman242
      @Trashman242  9 лет назад

      +trashmonster26 Your previous hauler. This whole neighborhood was previously open market, with the big three and at least 4 others all running on various days throughout the week. A few years back the HOA awarded this company a contract to do the whole neighborhood each Monday, and many people kept their old containers. Recycling is collected every two weeks.
