@@billphillips7830 weirdly, his knee was fine. His tibia and fibula got twisted until there was a combination of a fracture and ankle dislocation. Better for him, because that's an easier (less horrific) road to recovery than a knee injury.

murray1234567891011 Exactly. Happened to me too. The pop was so loud it was heard by everyone over the music we had playing during our spars. I said the same thing Vinny did, thought it was air/gas like a knuckle crack. I felt fine and finished the roll. After class and the adrenaline wore off, the swelling and pain kicked in. Turned out it was my MCL and Meniscus!
I got a knee pop too, to this day I can’t run more than a mile and a half without pain. Same with my elbow. I can’t do push-ups w/o feeling like my right elbow will explode again.
Naw heel hooks just leave your knees fucked and torn apart to the point you can’t even feel certain tendons and areas of your knee since they’re completely detached. His knee stability is probably fucked for the rest of his life though sadly.
I KNEW IT!! I was like woahh wtf his foot is hanging and purple.. Craig noticed and said something to him in the middle of it all but the guy kept going hes like wtf Haha insane
Vinny is amazing, Craig Jones really dangerous as ever. I think Vinny wasn't feeling it before he got in the ring by the looks but what can I say, it must have been a really odd event.
First whole SUG I got to catch. I got a very limited understanding of the rules but about as good of an understanding on grappling from an observer's perspective as you're gonna get. Definitely gonna keep watching. Thanks for everything, Unc!
the ligaments in either the knee or the ankle generally tear first. In this case it was the ankle which is usually what happens in a really clean heelhook. In the knee i believe its the MCL and ACL which are most likely to tear from a heelhook. Its possible for bones to break too but its much rarer since the ligaments tend to give way first.
@Jay Lee I tore my own LCL from a 50/50 like 12 yrs ago. I asked if he was ok when I heard the loud pop. (It sounded like if you slapped your thigh as hard as you could.) He said, "no bro that was you." 30 seconds later, reality set in.
Chael, can you please give us an idea of how the event did in terms of PaidP's compared to regular or "non lock down" viewing? Congratulations and thank you for a great show!
Not gonna lie i don't like how leg lock heavy BJJ is nowadays. When strikes are involved unless the leg is there on a plate, I feel like reaching for a leg lock and playing deep half is a good way to get slept
I wish guys would tap when it gets to that point but I understand the mind of a competitor. This kind of stuff makes me watch more but I don’t know how it fairs for attracting new people to the great sport
Any chance we get a recap of yesterday’s event Chael? Some are saying this might be a career ending injury for Vinny. Thoughts? Thanks Chael. ✌🏽 #BadGuyINC
What is funny is Craig knew this was somewhat common to allow ankle or knees to pop and keep grappling. He mentioned it clearly as crazy but true in a long interview alongside Robert Whittaker.
This was freaking weird to watch. It was soooo bad! Craig was like, "dude, I just popped your shit! You're not gonna tap?!" Vinny is a beast, and Craig, he's Craig.
I don't get how people like that don't get any hate... Not tapping to clean submissions should be frowned upon. Not only ultra dumb, but also disrespectful to your opponent. You just got disconnected from training for couple months, so you can last 2 more minutes in a match you know you will lose
Probably never bro. It will be a logistical nightmare. And I can't think of an Indian state where they have their shit together to do proper weight cutting procedure, medical teams etc. Well after the pandemic is over anyway.
Wow just gave an uber ride to Vinny today, most nicest genuine guy in Portland. Didnt even know he was a former champ, so humble and generous..Im a big fan of him in life. Thankyou Sir!!
and couldnt even tell he broke it just yesterday he treated with care but never winced or complained about the discomfort he must of been in. such a tough hombre, praise God!!

Uncle Chael's commentary was great during that. That and when the mosquito got into the silo Chael was stationed at 😆
Craig was asking Vinny why he wasn’t tapping while ripping his foot off.

If you freeze the video when he had the heel hook locked, it looks disgusting. His foot is literally (and I mean literally) rotated about 180 degrees.
