To think modern tank still use a ww2 heavy machine gun is really insane, what a timeless piece of art
Yes, machine guns are rarely updated. Browning, Vulcan, KPVT, these are all machine guns from the ww2 and they are still in service.
There gonna be using the 50 cal 1000+ years in the future i bet lol
if it aint broke, dont fix it lol
Its not just a ww2 gun, the first M2 variant was adopted by the US in 1923 and the m2hb was in 1933

But lets not forget about the KF-51 Panther, its cross developed by Germany and Hungary, with two variants to boot, one with the tried and true 120mm L55A1 and one with the new 130mm FGS L/52
@@ODST_Parker Im salty because due to the incompetency of german leadership the italian tech tree now has the cooler versions of german vehicles.
@@OneAngryVelociraptor We might get the Leopard 1A2 as well, and Italy has now decided to go with the Leopard 2A8 for their future MBT.

France carries both a 30cal machine gun, firing 7.62 mm bullets, and a 50cal machine gun, firing 12.7 mm bullets. Just for everyone's convienence, I will create a list of machine gun calibers that the tanks are firing. The 12.7 mm machine guns are mounted on the American M1A1, the French VBCI-2, the Russian T-90M, the Chinese VT4A1, the Turkish M60 AMBT, the Hungarian KF41, and the German Leopard 2 PSO. The 7.62 mm machine guns are mounted on the Italian Leclerc Azur, and the British Challenger 2 TES. The only tank with a 25 mm machine gun, in this list, is the Turkish M60 AMBT. Sorry for the rant, just needed to do this.

Gets destroyed by a 2000$ FPV drone...
Actually, these weapon stations are some of the scariest things a tank can bring to bear against drones. Fully stabilized, thermal sights, tied directly to the main fire control computer; if the crew sees the drone coming, avoiding that weapon station is not an easy task.
When OP fails to realize all western tanks use ECM systems that export models do not get making FPV drones useless against them
@@Shaun_Jones nah, only if its controlled by AI, else is worthless, humans can't react against FPV drones. Basically they need to be updated , they already obsolete
@reddot_22 AI tech is getting better and better. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a resurgence of machine-gun based SPAA and turret cupolas ran by AI just to take down FPV drones. If people resort to using birdshot to take down drones then all you need is a little refinement.

The guy who designed it said on a Chinese forum that he was heavily inspired by Gundam and their weapon designs because he was a big fan. So he based it on one of the first movies to be released in China. Extra cool points.

Why does russia design so many MGs when weve been using the samr gun for over a century without issue
Reliability
Usa: time till breakage
Russia: simpleness of repair
(Just my opinion, either they embezzle funds while creating new mg's)
Maybe some MG models were outdated due to the new models from different nations so replacing older MG designs is always an option for the russians.
We always wanted to make them lighter and with the same reliability.
If we talk about large-caliber ones, there were only 4 of them. DShK, KPV, NSV and Kord. The DShK was expensive to produce (its radiator alone cost a lot, too much metal was wasted) and quite heavy.
The KPV was a little special, since it was born during WWII, when it quickly became clear that the pre-war large-caliber cartridge was already weak as an anti-tank cartridge, and aircraft were also becoming metal en masse and something more powerful was needed. In theory, the KPV was supposed to replace the DShK, but due to war conditions and the needs of the front, they did not stop the production lines of both large-caliber cartridges and weapons for it. And because of its power, it found its niche after the war between automatic cannons and conventional machine guns for arming vehicles.
DShK was replaced by NSV, which one was just better in many ways. But this was not the end and many years later new Kord became even lighter and more convenient, while at the same time maintaining reliability.
All these machine guns were available in versions for both infantry and vehicles.
There are also Soviet ultra-high-speed machine guns, including multi-barrel systems developed for aircrafts and navy.
In general, the USSR had many interesting developments, but many were ahead of the time and the needs of the army. The USSR was not the richest country, so it tried to spread less efforts in R&D and especially in production (although not always). Often, old ideas and developments were revived when a potential enemy (say, NATO) had something in service or gave good results in tests. In this case, the USSR tried to maintain parity in some themes (attack helicopters, multi-barreled machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, shuttles, etc.).
@@Watchdreamzzz The KPVT 14.5 Heavy MG? Cmon bro i mean its like a cancer to lightly armored tanks tho.
Ok, I also forgot about prewar SHVAK MG, one of it's designers later made KPV, and also UB and DK. But as I already said, they were all just steps towards what I wanted initially. They should have been lighter and more reliable. Therefore, enormous efforts were invested in the development of machine guns, which were still the main infantry weapon throughout the 20th century.
КПВТ самый лучший крупнокалиберный пулемет. Если обстрелять из него танк, то он посшибает всё навесное оборудование и разденет всю танковую обувь, гусеницы.😮

M2 Browning 1930~
I thought it was just an Ak47 with side plates.
Every machine gun is either a Browning, saw, Dushka, or a mg-42
I am still a bit confused as to why the russians didn't continue developing the 14.5mm as a pintol MG. It just seems superior to the 12.7 in every way without being crazy expensive.
I mean you get more penetration against light vehicles, fortifications, and even planes. You get more damage against everything in general, but you trade basically nothing except possibly fire rate and effective range (though if you need a pintol for anything more distant than a kilometer then you're better off with using a HE shell).
