You know what would be an amazing addition to the game? A toggleable PiP (Picture in Picture) window that you can "pin" something to so you can keep an eye on its visuals at all times, even when you have the map in fullscreen - an example is that MiG at 3:00 - having it in that PiP Window would let you see what nailed it. Old X3 games or Earth 2160 had something like that and it was extremely useful.
The dev´s should really add a command to "Keep missile arms loaded" it would really cut down in engagement time in situations like this and could´ve saved that DD
The reason you can't is because IRL they didn't. Missiles really don't like to be exposed to the elements (especially salt water splashing) and were prone to misfiring and/or outright not doing anything when they were. Furthermore, especially in older missiles, the on-board electronics literally needed to warm up and start on the rail, so having it sitting there on a rail for eternity wouldn't necessarily reduce this 'boot' time. Having these 'limited' arm launchers makes you appreciate VLS cells that much more!
I know a man who was on the USS Higbee when her aft 5" turret was hit by a 250kg bomb dropped by a mig during this battle. He was a sonar technician and luckily the crew of the hit turret actually weren't in it due to a malfunction, so no one was killed. Pictures of the destroyed turret are quite interesting!
The pilot, Nguyễn Văn Bảy (B, to differentiate with another Nguyễn Văn Bảy who was an Ace with 7 kills) used a technique called 'skip bombing' to achieve the hits. He went on to score a single kill against an A-6 Intruder before the plane he piloted was hit by a missile over the sky of Thanh Hóa province. His jet crashed into a mountain in Tân Thành commune, Thường Xuân district. He was buried in the city of Thanh Hóa before being reburied at his hometown in Bạc Liêu province.
When mission is complete I hope they add the option to continue the mission until I decide to leave. In the words of Randy Marsh, "I didnt hear no bell"
yeah itd be cool if you could stay in the area and provide coverage or sail to another area etc. Also itd be nice to be able to call in reinforcments ie air support, ground artillery etc etc
The smaller hangars / pads on the destroyers were intended for the QH-50 DASH drone helicopter. By this time, the program had been cancelled and most were withdrawn from service. Some saw use in the Vietnam War as reconnaissance / artillery spotting platforms rather than their intended ASW role to deliver torpedoes to distant contacts (which was supplanted by ASROC on these ships).
ASROC and DASH are complimentary systems, ASROC did not replace DASH. To use a Soviet metaphor, SS-N-14 is sort of like the DASH drone of the Soviet navy in terms of role while the ASROC is sort of the RBU-6000 of the USN

That destroyer does have a helicopter hangar, of sorts. A lot of Gearings were fitted to carry the QH-50 DASH anti-sub drone during one of their FRAM upgrades. It was a tiny little gyrodyne helicopter that could carry a pair of lightweight torpedoes.

From Wikipedia on this event: The Gulf of Tonkin DLG AAW pickets normally operate with a DD escort but, during April 1970, Sterett operated at a modified PIRAZ station 20NM from the North Vietnamese coast with the cruiser USS Oklahoma City, COMSEVENTHFLT embarked, as her escort. [...] On 7 January 1972, Sterett traveled on her second tour of duty off the Vietnamese coast. She departed for the Gulf of Tonkin and remained on PIRAZ station when on 21 February 1972 became the first United States Navy ship to direct the downing of a MiG-21 by Air Force Combat Air Patrol. During her second line period of the deployment, Sterett participated in the downing of two more MiGs (30 March) and brought down another with a salvo of Terrier missiles during the Dong Hoi engagement on 19 April. Later on that day, she launched a second salvo of Terriers at an unidentified target, probably a Styx surface-to-surface missile, destroying it in midair.
