Brought to you by the lead designer of Cold Waters, Sea Power lets you control NATO and Warsaw Pact forces in a modern naval conflict. Whether it's gunning it out with Boghammars in a surface duel, fighting off aerial attackers armed with long-range missiles, or hunting for enemy submarines with aircraft and surface ships, advanced weaponry and sensors are at your disposal. Can you successfully hide your forces while detecting and tracking theirs? It is up to you to play an advanced game of cat and mouse on the high seas, to seize the initiative and attack with the advantage of surprise on your side.
Penguin has an IR seeker, once it's locked on it cannot be decoyed away by chaff and is pretty much guaranteed to hit (unless intercepted).
Devs call both chaff and flares in the game as "chaff"
Yeah, the countermeasures deployed are using both chaff and flares simultaneously, probably for simplicity's sake
Equally importantly, it means you can launch them entirely without radar emissions, so that they can only be detected when they come over the horizon
I had a penguin go for chaff (it did hit an escort behind the ship it was going for) i'm guessing chaff and flares are just linked together.
You seriously owe those penguin missiles an apology.
🐧😢
The Penguins are quite a capable missile. Short range, but some cool features. They're pretty small, so hard targets to take down with CWIS and the like. Chaff won't work on them as they us IR homing once inertial guidance turns off near the target.
Also, I suspect the escorted ships basically shut down when you kill the escorts. I've seen it happen a few times myself. It'd be nice if they could radio surrender.
With regard to the last thing you said, I think that’d be a really cool feature! There should be an achievement for it too lol
Yeah, the inertial guidance is super helpful to prevent ESM from picking it up and preventing early flares from the ship from decoying it away (ships and aircraft in game deploy both chaff and flares when firing 'chaff')
I may be wrong but I think if the lead ship in the formation is immobilised, all ships will just come to a stop and wait for it to start moving again. I'm not sure if another ship even takes the lead after the lead is destroyed.
yes but warhead also is relatively small. it took what? 2 penguins to sink a kresta? lucky hits might do some crippling damage at best i would say but i am no expert
i always enjoy when games feature Norway
i guess then wargame ALB is one of your favorites
So funny thing about this mission - i finished it yesterday myself and decided to look at it in mission editor - there is actually whole carrier formation further towards Russia and i think Augusta present only to hunt down that group as it is in no way positioned to get in any reasonable time to main landing force. And also i think said carrier should give "some air cover" or whatever it is said in brief about enemy air.
"The forces at our disposal are technically inferior to those of that of the enemy."
Well I suppose they _were_ still doing actual maintenance on their stuff back then.
that and the soviet navy was way bigger than it is now. there was a time where the soviet navy could actually stand to us face to face.
@@norsia1946 Aye, its sad how after the fall of the Union those at the top basically stole everything of value that wasn't bolted down (and some that were) and left the country in general to rot. The current Russian Federation is entirely the fault of those people.
@@norsia1946 no, there never was.. idk where you got that idea from but its patently false at its absolute heyday the Soviet Union had only 7 aircraft carriers with none of them being usable for long range missions, they had only 4 battleships and only 2 battle cruisers... again this was at their absolute heyday during the late 80s so lets look at the united states navy during that time frame in the 80s the American navy had over 100 aircraft carriers with most of them being long range operational carriers. the United States had reactivated 4 battleships to match and we had even more in mothball, we had 9 battlecruisers active at the time once again with older classes of ship held in moth ball... so please explain to me how they were a peer-to-peer force?
@@jessedriscoll4447 im sure some one will come in with a discussion of doctrines and intended use of the ships and all that.
But still, credit where credit is due, some of those missiles the Soviets were packing are terrifying.
@@executer40 yeah that's probably a fair and valid point, I don't know much about the 80's era missile platforms, so I won't claim any expertise on that. That being said i am very much a numbers and statistics man, and if the US is fielding more ships, then that means more planes thus means more Air to sea missiles in the battle for the Usa... not to go too much into doctrine, but the Usa is afforded the ability to Operate with dispersed fleets and still have an effective fighting force whereas the soviets are forced into condensed fleets that would have to operate close to ports... basically leaving the United States to be able to strike inland or the enemy fleet from multiple points. I'll be real with you man, even with nukes I'm not scared. IF they nuke us then we nuke them, we will just rebuild but they don't have that economy of wealth, resources or manpower.
One of my Great Uncles (Alfred Hooley) is at the bottom of Narvik, he was on HMS Hunter
From Norway thank you. My grandfather was on a Norwegian sub during www2.
Was it the “Ula”? Because if so he was a crewman on the most successful Allied sub in European waters, including sinking an enemy U-boat off Norway.
ruclips.net/video/oGMC490hcA8/видео.htmlsi=jcjBaUZ6Fszw3nvV It's in Norwegian but you still might find it interesting.
was it out of horten?
@@STG42_44 England. You have to remember that Nazi Germany had occupied Norway.
@@coryhall7074 Nope first he was on Uredd and then on Utsira.
Alligator dropped a noisemaker? Let me guess - it ate a rattlesnake for breakfast?
That's a good one 😂😂😂😂
Rattler is a great nickname for a noisemaker!
Or a yellow rubber duck, you know it will be handy when you are in water.
Actually, it was an alarm clock
I tried that scenario a couple days ago. My fast attack craft took down the soviets before they were in range of the submarines or main fleet
Those penguins did good's work. Wow. Flying through a complete nightmare of crossfire and cwis, not even a single one got intercepted.
Wolfpack if you're going to start an attack you cant keep waving off and recommitting, its why you loose planes so badly while accomplishing nothing, either commit or don't,
He wants to attack, but not lose anything. So in the end he loses them without accomplishing much.
@@IIIJG52 Nah, he's always wasted planes in his videos.
Poor aviators.
Nah here the SAM cover is too strong to actually get in. Flying into the SAMs with only two F4s will get them killed (I tried). By flying at a 90 degree angle or going cold and using countermeasures you at least have a chance to lose the missile.
I think the mission isn't completely finished anyway. The two F4s are labelled as CAP but they're equiped for bombing, and the briefing says something about enemy air cover but so far I've only see them deploy helicopters.
8 minutes in and there's already pantyshot bots.
On more topical note, gotta enjoy these SP vids for some nice background noise~
This was the first mission i played when I got the game. It's a fun one. Love the Norwegian missile boats.
What this game really excelles for is the scenary: look at that shot at 25:12, whit all the smokes and the rockets fired, it is just a fantastic cinematic!
Fun to see good old "Kobben" and the old MTB's! Gribb means vulture by the way. I will talk to naval command. I think you have earned a job here.
Very atmospheric episode, the explosions looked very impressive in the bad, murky weather 👌🐺 and thanks for explaining how clouds work 😀
What a great way to spend a Friday afternoon
Really enjoying this series, looks like a brilliant game and I enjoy both your gameplay style and relaxing voice.
Someone should make a Swedish "hold the border" scenario. That’s one hell of a story, a small nation staring down the soviets and willing to start a war with them 😮💨 if you haven’t heard it there is a good video a Swede made on the topic. Just need to look up "Swedish "hold the border""
Sure, once we get Swedish units.
As a Norwegian, thank you for your service😅
Let me add that "kobben" is the name of a group of seals ( Erignathus barbatus and Phoca vitulina)
Love the content Wolfpack. Been watching for a few years now and I have always enjoyed your videos. Keep up the great work my man
Burned the F4 flight for nothing. Need to commit your aircraft with surprise when you have significant anti air presence.
The Oslo class frigates were 1960s tech. By the late 90s, they had been so overladen by new tech and equipment, that their survivability was serverly diminished. As is shown by the sinking of the KNM Oslo. It got water into its engines, started drifting, and hit a underwater rock, flinging a single sailor overboard. He sadly died. The ship sunk not long after. All other crew survived. I was aboard the KNM Narvik when it was still in service in Feb of 2000. It was a cramped and stuffy ship. I ended up NOT being stationed on it as a radar tech, and ended up as a shorebased radar tech instead. Thank god 🤣🤣
This is my favorite scenario in Sea Power as of now. It was just too fun with the combined arms of subs, FAC, and other warships.
I screened the major warships with the subs and the moment my torps were about to impact i had the FAC, air, and missiles overwhelmed the soviet fleet.
I waited sense 2019 for this game and i cant wait to see the finished product. Played on and off sense I bought it last Monday, goofed around a few hours everyday after work, and then I unashamedly put 10 hours into one sitting on Saturday. I love it, my wife..not so much.
I have to wonder: where's the satellite surveillance intel in this game? The US definitely had surveillance satellites, and I'm sure the USSR did, as well.
Satellite surveillance for naval units does not exist to this day. It is too slow and relies too much on luck.
@@reestart7758 Okay. Something new learned.
Going to guess that's used at the strategic level in the game. I'm fairly sure that this entire mission would have required satellite recon to position the forces in advance.
@@steweygrrr Reconnaissance is crucial in naval warfare, and Sea Power already demonstrates this quite well. However, the current missions are more designed to quickly jump into action since there is no save option, and spawning units is not currently possible.
In reality, satellite imagery plays a role in reconnaissance. For example, harbors are monitored, and if a satellite flies over a harbor again after a day and it is noticed that three destroyers are missing, it becomes clear that they have set sail. Certain straits are monitored as best as possible, but entire coastlines or ocean regions are not.
Aircraft, ESM reconnaissance, and position reports collected over weeks combine to create a situational picture that helps determine what to expect in a maritime area. This "cat and mouse" gameplay is currently missing from the game. While the units have the capability, issues like faulty time compression, a lack of assets, the inability to spawn units, and limited airfield assets make it impossible to create missions lasting longer than three in-game hours.
So, what were RORSAT and other equivalents than used for? @@reestart7758
My wife loved the explanation of how rain worked
Those small boats, with emissions off, were able to sneak into torpedoes range from transport ships. Probably because of bad weather conditions, while my own ships were able to identify fishing boat from very close (few hundred meters) range. On other after they lost two front ships, a convoy just stopped from moving.
Just goes to show how an inferior force using tactics and the local area can be effctive and deadly when used correctly. Well played!
Those little penguins are sea-skimming missiles unlike harpoons which pops up and dive down on the target. I remember seeing footage of penguins actually passing through waves while homing on target. They gotta be bi#@& to shoot down.
One really neat thing about the Penguin that's not in the game, was their ability to follow pre-planned flight paths. The operator could program the missile before launch to follow a flight path, for example around land masses, allowing the fast attack craft to take advantage of the thousands of islands and inlets along Norway's rocky coast to fire its missiles while behind cover. It also had a time-on-target feature, so that several missiles then could be programmed to arrive at the target from different directions at the same time. And with the missile being completely passive (IR seeker), there was no way of knowing a missile was on its way unless you ran your own radars continuously, which in war is suicide.
The Penguin is a wolf in sheep's clothes. It looks diminutive and unimpressive, but for the time it was a truly terrifying weapon system
Im imagining some sort of Dynamic campaign, where you choose a side or nation and then get randomly generated missions to lead your forces through, Train them up to veterans or get them blown out of the water. Try to survive and sink the enemy for as long as possible, getting reinforcements as they are build or assigned to you. You know ?
What a fun mission! I feel bad about the Phantom drivers for sure.
Nice! Please feel free to apologize to the Penguins, they are doing an excellent job.
I just bought the game because when you play it,it looks cool and you inspired me
Great video. I feel the name of this game should be "Track, Track, Contact faded"
Today I've learned what ASuW means thanks to you 😅
To be honest I thought it was just ASW and surface warfare, guess I was wrong.
seeing the varying anti-missile performance in the game i'm starting to think that the "crew experience" setting is wayyyy to impactful
HNoMS Narvik is today a museumship in Horten, Norway
Those Norwegian subs are quite impressive.
that was a devastating defeat. damn. safe journey brother
Great video, as usual! I do wonder - when watching gameplay videos, are we spoiling the scenarios for ourselves? I mean, now I know where the OPFOR is coming from and what it is composted of. Are the scenarios hard scripted or is there built-in variability to make every re-play different?
Here we go! Perfect timing WP!
I don't know about Sea Power but in Cold Waters and DCS you could send slow torpedoes that are very hard to detect if you had a lot of patience, a lot of time and a lot of fortune/good conditions (to detect them from so far away while also being able to launch from far away and below a layer to not have your loud launch detected).
Please do the Kirkenes NATO scenario, it is a lot of fun with mixed air and naval threats. It will allow you to apologise to the penguins and maybe the Norwegians will even forgive you for butchering the pronunciation of Tromsø.
I can wayt to play your scenarios, thanks for your work!
This mission was fun, I only used the fast attack craft by having them follow along the coast.
I think cwis might need a buff lol
Challenge, you have to kill a supply ship with the minesweeper
Did not expect to see you here
@@soupman3285 u talking about the mine sweeper or me a s person? Ur soup from Neo Warfare X rp aren't you.! Hi mate!
I just played this scenario, and you went did this a lot smarter that I did 😅
From what I understand, the F-4 can deploy those penguin missiles, if the load out of those F-4s could have been set up on using the penguins instead of the MK82 bombs which is next to impossible to use against a ship with a formidable anti air defense system, I would surmise they can launch those on those ships and can turn away quickly to save their asses as well. And save the penguins on those fast attack boats on the main Soviet force instead.
Damm crazy that all those ships were destroyed by a cigarette in the ammo rooms
Never underestimate the Penguin!
I love these videos, but for night stuff can you bump up the brightness a little bit? RUclips compression also isn't doing you much favors.
They should add ability to refuel at see so you would have to manage your fuel as well. It would give opportunity to make long range scenarios.
The lesson (among others) is that missile defense at this time was extremely spotty, especially the Soviet kind
Don't climb while a SAM is tracking your planes, you lose energy. You need to dive.
Also, at low alt, the thicker air can better draw the energy away from the SAM, if CW simulates this.
excellent work
That was pretty dang cool!!!!!
This game reminds me of a mixture of that old 1990 game Harpoon and the newer Cold Waters
well you never actually got them behind terrain, you made them turn prematurely ( in the minimap it was still indicating that the missile was still actively tracking) and recommit out in the open, also impatience cost you greatly, knowing you already got engaged from a significant distance you still chose to run the F-4s into AA range with bombs...
great video.
You should have used that mine sweeper as a missile magnet...
Lol. Just played this myself, cold. Lost the F4s as well, but nothing else. I did an alpha strike with the Penguins, and hey, they work quite well! Nailed all the warships, then brought the FACs back in for mop up with their torpedoes. I think I fired one torp from a sub to DX a leftover RU transport. Everything else was already done. Despite being brand new to the game, I think this scenario is a good learning scenario, but seriously unbalanced. Needs some RU air or other covering capability, to make it interesting, and the (unused) presence of the LA class up north is ridiculous overkill.
There's a Soviet Carrier Group inbound from further east. I think it's supposed to be there to intercept that
Is that the BSP soundtrack in the background?
Man, I do not envy any of the poor Soviet sailors and soldiers having to abandon ship in the North Sea under those weather conditions...
What a flawless victory aside from 2 wasted f4
You should be promoted to Admiral.
I hope PVP comes soon
can you do a video with the Minsk please
Wonder if the map has a typo and that's why he mispronounced "Tromsø". He would have no reason to know better...
It makes for great visuals for sure, but the small missiles are way too overpowered (or the ships way too fragile.) I once launched by mistake a small anti air missile at one of my destroyers, and it sunk it directly.
To me there are too many defence forces in this mission) You can use no tactic, just overload the enemy with plenty missiles.
They could make it much more interesting with bigger soviet fleet.
There is a bigger soviet fleet in the mission, with a carrier and escorts... it's just so far away that you'd never find it unless you're very patient or look in the mission editor...
@@EmilFr Oh)
CWIS continues to seem unreasonably ineffective in this game. Also, small missles are way too overpowered. A single hit from a SAM should not reliably take out a cruiser sized target.
@@ChiGyu620 penguins are anti ship missiles. And although everyone is calling it cwiz (it's actually called ciws or ”see-wis”) it's a completely different system. Ciwz is an American weapon system. The Russian systems were based on a 30 mm rotary cannon and obviously using Russian radar and tracking system. While the cannon is very powerful it's still dependent on the tracking system to hit it's target.
can I somehow adjust brightness on the playback? It is very dark.
There's a Firefox/Chrome plugin called "Video Styler" which allows you to increase brightness amongst a host of other features.
So, easy mission this one, F4s as recon and wild weasel to drain SAMs, subs and first group as hunters are all I needed, no Norwegian losses, never saw the main force, and not willing to wait for 4-5hrs of rl to wait for them to appear, so a 1000%mission success will have to do 😳😁🤣🤣🤣 some mission editing required me thinks… Sea Power has some balance issues, but that does make it very rl, just don’t get frustrated when u get whack a moled 😆
Good scenario
Just got CW, what is the scenario/single mission? Reminds me a lot of Harpoon 2.
I'm very glad not to be a pilot under your command!
I wish I could play the game, I'm not sure what happened but the game just won't load scenarios for me anymore. It worked fine for the first few days I had it and now whenever I try and load into a scenario it just stops responding then forces me to close it :(. I can't save custom missions either, something about parameter index out of range.
Woe! Penguins upon ye!
Nice one…...
When will you play u boat again?
So why is that LA sub in this mission? Can you delay the soviets until the sub manages to show up?
In cold waters u have ESM mast too. I never understood what it does. It aquires electric signals? But it doesnt pinpoint location or smth? Whats the point of ESM? Just to confirm somethings there?
Electronic Support Measures. Basically a radio signal detector. It will passively detect radar waves or communications signals that touch it. In Cold Waters that was modeled by a simple bar graph of signal strength, if it went over a 7 that meant something was actively detecting you on radar.
Penguins for the win
I played this scenario a few days ago and apart from only losing 1 phantom, the result was exactly the same. Hopefully the AI can be developed much further so the results and possibilities in scenarios don't seem so generic and pre determined.
Those little subs look a bit fed up. 😐
Show time
Again: nice one. One thing though: you play with the option "Hide unidentified in 3D" on. Turning that off would make better vids.
I get the whole bad*ss difficulty thing, but still.
What an absolutely devastating end result for the vastly superior Russian naval force!
You managed this scenario with perfect precision.
You utilized your fleet with exceptional skill.
That was extremely entertaining, as always.
I am thoroughly looking forward to your next upload!
Usually love your videos. But this evening or night time engagement is unwatchable on my phone. So dark, no contrast. Maybe I'll try it on my computer.
Tromso, not trosmo
Trosmo???
You mean: Tromsø
Am I hallucinating or are the Norwegians speaking English in American accents?
Update: I passed the exam 😅😅 (on my 4th take)
Please, share the mission.
The one that's in the base game?
It's in the base game
@@AndreasMadsen I see, thanks!
Too bad they didn't invest more time into the damage effects. Like torpedoes pushing up ships, breaking them sometimes. Even Silent Hunter III, which is nearly 20 years old, had this.
It’s still in early access you know that right? This isn’t a full release.
the game has only just released in early access
they need to fix ai and bring some campaigns before that but agree. it is early acess, yes, but price is like for full release and customers are paying for being betatesters. State of gaming in 2024 sadly
@@TheJaskier666 that's been the case for more than 10 years now - totally agree though. The next worst push is all the cloud gaming and normalizing subscriptions / "just because you paid for the game doesn't mean you own it"
If you must make every decision for every asset, then this seems like a not so nice game to play.
