Thanks Dean! I'm still working out how I want add a cup holder. I don't want it to take away from the overall look, but I want it to be functional. Sometimes that balance is hard to get😮

Hello Grant, The leather handlebar grips are great for your old bike. You do this leather job lovingly and skillfully. When I see that he is making such leather products, I also aspire to make something from leather. Like wood, you are a good master in leather work. Congratulations. See you. I wish you a healthy and beautiful new week. Big greetings. Cheers buddy.
Very, very good vid mate. Excellent narration - very articulate and informative - brilliant camera work and perfect use of music. Just a super job. Thanks.
Mi bicicleta es de un tono amarillo que vira al naranja. Me encanto la idea de fabricarle unos puños color suela para el manubrio de un material tan fuerte y noble como el cuero.
Don't do this often but went to the comments first so I'm clueless about LPI name which is why suggesting LPI as a band name just makes me think "Why"? Without any context walk up to someone and say "Leather Pricking Irons". They're going to look at you with that sideways dog head look. They might even respond "The hot dog in the pumpkin tree! Yeah, that's right! What else you got?!?" LPI is too random to work if you ask me. But don't stop trying ... seriously. Like jokes, they can't all be winners :-P
Thumbs up and well earned Grant, a really useful video - I notice the leather stitched tube on your crafting knife! The result looks really excellent and the choice of thread colour well advised. I use the same method of threading the needle and going through the thread when bookbinding. Thank you for a really good tutorial and a fascinating film! 🎬👍👍👍
Thanks Eryk! The corset stitched knife was something I received from Ethan Carter Designs, and it was the inspiration for this project, good eye for catching that. I am glad to hear that someone else out there uses the same needle threading technique
Thanks Emmett, they definitely came out better than I was expecting! I originally wasn't going to make a separate video for them, but I think they stand on their own!
Sadly I never finished the restoration on this bike, so they have sat unused. I will say that there are lots of leather things that get sweat on and last without issue. I would say that gluing them in place would be a good idea
Thread is cheap son, but words are cheaper. I enjoyed that video, I gave it a thumbs up. By the way, your BMW has hand stitched leather on the steering wheel if you ever bother to come and pick it up.
Good looking, but that stuff doesn't work properly. Grips are called grips for a reason, they need a... let's say, some grip. Leather itself is much more slippery than rubber compounds, multiply that by the fact that grips themselves turn around the handlebar (unless you fixed them in place in some way). You'll get extremely unstable handling, suitable only for slow, recreational cycling. Handlebars wraps used on dropbars can also be made of leather and are much better. Oh and that stitching kinda feels bad to the hand, it's pretty much impossible to find a position where stitches don't rub your palm, so it negates the ability of leather grips to be used without gloves
Those look great! Nothing like using a corset-stitched xacto to cut the leather you're about to corset stitch. Also, if that bike doesn't end up orange after all of this, I'm unsubscribing.
Hahah thanks! This is my wife's bike and she picked out the colour. I'm still searching for one to restore for myself. That one will be orange for sure! Please don't unsubscribe because my wife doesn't love the colour orange🤣
Grant! You make really practical things. Not only that, it is also beautiful. It's really cool... even leather crafts... it's cool!
Thanks so much☺️ it was a fun project
Oh man, can't wait to see the rest of the bike come together. And of course the leather wrapped cup holder
Thanks Dean! I'm still working out how I want add a cup holder. I don't want it to take away from the overall look, but I want it to be functional. Sometimes that balance is hard to get😮

Thank you so much Mehmet, I hope to see you working with leather in the future, it can be fun to include leather with your woodworking projects :)
@@TheGrantAlexander 👏👏👏👏yes I have to think about that.
What an upgrade! The stitching on those is phenomenal--love the choice of thread color contrasting with the leather. Great job, Grant!
Thanks so much! I agree it turned out better than expected☺️
your leather working videos are coming along very nicely. Pretty cool custom handlebars Grips!
Thank you so much! It was a fun project for sure ☺️
Pretty slick. The new grips certainly are an improvement.
Thanks Don! I could see you using this technique to wrap some of your hand tools! ☺️
@@TheGrantAlexander very true. Great idea.
I love the look the leather and stitching gives these handles! Great stuff bud and thanks for the shoutout!
Thanks Ethan! I released this on the day before you record BWM on purpose. I hope I hear about it on Wednesday morning🤣🤣
@@TheGrantAlexander Hahaha very strategic!
Gonna be a great series! Top start.
Thanks James! It has been a fun restoration project so far!
Nice improvement, these turned out great!
Thanks! I'm hoping to get the seat done this weekend and then the bike week be ready to go ☺️
@@TheGrantAlexander Sweet, just in time for the nice weather.
Wow Grant. You are getting real good with the leather now. Lovely bike
Thanks Pascal! Leather seems to be quite forgiving and it hides my novice errors quite well😁 hope you are staying safe

Thanks so much! All the credit on this one goes to Ethan Carter (I even stole the music from one of his videos🤣)
This was epic Grant! Thanks a lot for the tips and the link. Looking forward to more leather work videos🍻
Thanks Boris! I'm hoping that the leather seat turns out as nice as these grips 🚲
@@TheGrantAlexander fingers crossed 🍻
Great video Grant! The voiceover was really descriptive and concise.
I also like that you have wrapped the xacto knife the same way.
Thanks Bob! That xacto is actually something you can get if you contact Ethan Carter 😊
Great video! OK, you've inspired me to make some grips for my bike out of some leather offcuts I have. Many thanks
Thanks! Good luck and have fun
Great job as always. They look really good on the bike. Classy
Thanks Shane! They definitely turned out classier than I thought!
That's so nice!
Thank you!
Guinea, you started doing very good work, congratulations, good luck to you:)
Thank you very much!!☺️
Superb Grant!! Nice video dude thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching Rory! And additional thanks for commenting 🍻
Great idea Grant, looks really cool! I liked the stitched jacket on your exacto too! 👍
Thanks Tim! If you want one of those fancy Xactos you can buy one from Ethan Carter (or be like me and win one, lol)
Great result! Well done!
Thank you!!🚲
Nice one Grant.. always experimenting with new stuff 👍. need to start some proper leather work myself 😁
Thanks Suj, i can't wait to see what you come up with 👍🍻
Smashing upgrade Grant.

Nice ✌🏻...super upgrade Grant. Very well done!
Thanks Kirstie! I can't wait to finish this project and show the entire bicycle 😁
Nice improvement to the bike! Grant Grips..... get yours today!
Thanks Jeff! When I move these into production I'll make sure to call them Grant grips 🤣🤣
Great upgrade 😁 they look really good.
Thanks Adam! Did you base that off the first 10 seconds🤣🤣🤣

Hey Grant! Good to see you back, even though you do look about ten years younger than usual.
Hahaha thanks Mark! I didn't go anywhere though🤣🤣 a fresh shave and a haircut will make anyone look younger (well maybe not anyone 🤣)

Nice job grant

Hello , excellent job , leather handlebar grips looks fantastic. Have a great day my new friend/ Gosia
Thanks so much Gosia, very nice to meet you :)
It looks very good!
Thank you! ☺️

Thanks Mark!!🚲
Looks great bud!
Thanks Scott! So are you going to add some leatherwork to the new boat? You seem to be adding every other type of craft to it, lol!
@@TheGrantAlexander well shoot, guess I have to now, only leather work I’ve done recently are straps on the paddle hangers
Can't wait to see what you come up with!
Those look good 👍 do they slip or turn on the handlebars? Will glue get involved?
Thanks Jeff! They are pretty tight, but I can still move them if I try. I don't think glue will be required. ☺️
How have these held up? I'm considering doing the same but I'm not sure of the effect that sweat will eventually have on the leather.

These look really great! Are you going to do a steering wheel next?
That is a great idea Dave! I have never even considered it, but I do need some new leather for my convertible, so maybe!
Looks fantastic Grant! How long have you been working with leather?
Thanks! My first leather project was last fall (you can check the video out here ruclips.net/video/UICYYXpXQrc/видео.html) it has been fun learning 😊

Thank you so much ☺️
good video !

What thread size do you use?
According to the Amazon listing it's 150D size. But I know nothing about thread sizing so I hope that helps 😁
@@TheGrantAlexander awesome thank you!!
