  • ARTIST NOTES: This project was interrupted by a spell of bad health which unfortunately made it agonizing to look into the light of my computer screen for a couple of weeks. The subject of the project was difficult enough!
From what little I could still pick out from the remaining details of paint and wax, it seemed that the overall shape of the woman’s face was rather "loose", as though her skin was showing signs of advancing age, particularly in the chin to neck region. Considering that many portraits depict individuals in their prime, it seemed this lady had enjoyed a longer spell of good health than was customary for the time. It could be assumed that she was wearing a wig, as her hair was luxuriantly thick and dark (and sat very low on her forehead, following the arch of the hairline that wasn’t broken away by time), but again genetics may have given her a naturally thick head of hair, so ultimately it’s all conjecture. If she did wear a dark wig she may have penciled her eyebrows darker to match. Must keep up appearances!

Probably someone's Wife and Mother.Whoever she was, she was loved. It is a beautiful thing you do, showing the same love to bring back these forgotten people. A joy to watch it happen before your eyes.🙂
