It's easy to pick a least favourite, this one. Who would actually watch this film the whole way through! It's so racist! I cannot believe that Wesley Anderson would have the nerve to make this. Go back to making Roald Dahl films you silly bastard.
"Is that my belt? Can I borrow it?" I loved everything about this movie. And it leaves you feeling good about life. This is such a powerful movie, delivered in the most lighthearted way. It explores life, death, family, love, beauty, nature, cultures, religions, socioeconomic differences. So many things fit neatly into a compact, minimalistic movie. I never even heard of this movie until I saw it today. In my favourites list forever now.
I agree with everything you said here, except calling it minimalistic. I don’t think any film Wes Andersen has created is minimalistic. What I love about them is how rich the settings and props are. It is maximalist where other movies have very little original detail. Minimal special effects, I suppose? (:
@@soccermommyNPC I'd call his movies minimalist to a degree as well, but I'll prephrase that I agree with you too. Wes uses very simple dialogue, frames the scenes in the center with very close shots to the subjects and often doesn't rely on extremely epic settings. The way Wes layers colours is also quite interesting but perhaps not minimalist. I think it depends on how you describe minimalism, in details Wes is definitely a maximalist, but in many other areas of his films, things are quite simple and minimal - striking a great balance between simplicity and intricacy is why.
It's 2023, and I discovered this gem. The initial 27 seconds of music has been taken from the Oscar winning Indian film 'Pather Panchali' by Satyajit Ray. These kind of movies are very rare today. Thank you Wes Andrews for making this beautiful movie ❤

At the end, we walked out of that theater feeling so great. We loved this movie from start to finish. I still remember how great I felt after almost 10 years. Excellent soundtrack that I still listen today also.
