"I think it's better to be a dictator than to be gay" one for the history books
The Wendigo Bullshit and offensive.
Super Tiger Road Trip Why is that?
The Wendigo it's also very true
Meme stuff.
If the dictatorship ends the next thing you know you will gay, very logical.

@Shelby22 really? all LGBT people are corrupt? Oh pray tell, wise one, how many LGBT people have you met in real life?
I gotta be honest, western culture has been getting worse and worse: It used to be much better, but now it gets further from traditional values and children in schools rank lower every year. I’m not sure western culture should be spreading anymore.
@@nick______5853 hit the nail on the head. The EU and US think they know what's best for everyone else. When we had our civil war it was a civil matter, Ukraine should have been viewed the same way but instead we meddled in their affairs and created a war by threatening Russia with our involvement and it's not the first, second, third or fourth time we have done so.
@@nick______5853 I agree not the version we have now.
I excursed to Minsk in 2019. The people were friendly, streets were lively, shelves were full, and all attractions were impressive and fervent. There was nothing imperfect of the country; it felt nostalgic. The air was clean, forests were sprawling, and children swam in lakes whilst vendors amassed customers. There had been no instance of any political instability - the capital was pleased, gregarious, and an exceptional visit. I do not see any of this facile, heavily-worded documentary as true, for I was there myself.
You need to understand. All this stuff that you speak of isn't enough. We need gay parade and lots of drug addicted Male prostitutes.

@@pman56789 My mother lived within the country for 40 years during and after the Soviet regime and under Lukashenko. My grandmother has lived in Minsk her whole life, remembering the day Stalin died, and has expressed nothing but satisfaction and pride for her country. My mother now frequently visits with little difficulty. I assure you, although you would not be incorrect to assume that I might be ignorant alone, I have two living generations with oral knowledge far predating the revolution that refutes your assertion. Of course, I am not commending Stalin, I am not pushing aside his atrocities and many to come, and I am not saying that the country is perfect, but you know nothing of modern Belarus.

THEY ARE ACTORS PROBABLY EMPLOYED BY BELARUS! They don't speak or behave like Swiss, and Switzerland's government has issued strict warnings not to visit Belarus, Russia or the Ukraine at this time! Please spread the word, and don't confuse these actors for Swiss people!

I thought that.
I'm picking up a possible Italian accent - I'm Swiss and spent half my childhood in the US.
This was like six years ago so not relevant to the current situation. I could see that though, to make it seem like an international event. I could also see saying nice things about their visit isn't stupid, just knowing where you are and staying out of trouble. I would also point out that Italian is one of four official languages of Switzerland. It wouldn't be surprising that some Swiss had Italian accents.
This is weird! This thought came to me too, I even muttered to myself, these guys aren't Swiss?

You know what, I've traveled to Minsk Belarus last year, I plan to go again this year, because it's one of the nicest places I've been to in Europe. And after watching your "undercover" I won't change my mind, sorry. I've never felt so safe in a capital as in Minsk, even at night. Never seen so clean streets and buildings. Didn't have any troubles during my stay with authorities, even though I had to stay a day more. It was visa-free trip and I enjoyed a peaceful and calm country with nice people and beautiful city with colored buildings and awesome lights at night. Belarus has contactless card payment, you can use your credit card pretty much everywhere in Minsk and you won't be scammed. It has a high growing 2.0 IT sector.
Unlike Ukraine, it's a safe and peaceful place where you don't risk to be robbed, assaulted, shot or kidnapped at every moment. You at Channel 4 might prefer current Ukraine to Belarus, but let me disagree on this matter!
And how pathetic when you pretend they had to clean Minsk of its drunks and prostitutes. I saw many many more drunks when I was in Manchester or in Amsterdam than in Minsk. I was even surprised to see so few compared with Western Europe average.
DaBossIsHere So what? The point of the documentary still stands: Belarus is not a free country.
OP, your comment reminds me of El Salvador when they had a dictator, Maximiliano Hernández Martínez during the 30's-40's. Many who lived during that period said that the streets were safer; there were no thugs and whatnot. There was also no opposition whatsoever because he controlled EVERYTHING. Anyone who spoke against his mandates were taken for a ride. I think a Salvadoran writer said it the best: "There was peace alright. A cemetery kind of peace."
edwin11373 Very well said
Must be 'cool' to live in these MS13/18th Street streets-controlled days now isn't it? Enjoying 'democracy' inbetween daily funerals of younglings killed by gang violence...what are the crime rates again? Ah yes, over 110 per 100k in the capital (in 2014, now that the 'truce' between gangs ended, it's far worse)...one of the most dangerous capitals in the world (in the top 3). Strange example to quote for "democracy is better than dictatorship", really.
If a nation devolves into violence whenever their dear leaders loosen their leash, then that nation's values have been based on lies. If most Belorussians are truly good and well-mannered people, then democracy wouldn't change that at all.
I've been to Switzerland, those weren't the Swiss accents that I heard there.
3:30 North Korea is also very nice, very friendly and everything is perfect there for visitors
As long as you don't stray from the very precise visitors path or attempt to take home any unofficial souvenirs of your stay back with you then you can be safe in the knowledge that you will return home sans body bag. Enjoy your visit to North Korea, where it is always sunny - so long as your name is Kim something-something.
@J I think you need to do some research on the subject of humor and sarcasm.

As far as I know, they have not had any terror incidents since.
@@StevenWJRichards So, what you are saying is, "Dictatorship isn't all bad". I can understand that. And what do the pseudo-democratic nations of the US and UK have to offer? I think (I believe) that I prefer the lack of terror incidents.
@@BackSeatHump I agree, if we in Britain dealt with terrorism they way they do in Belarus, we wouldn't have half the problems we have now. Usually, people who say 'freedom is relative' are trying to defend lack of freedom. Those of us in the west may not have the freedom to do absolutely anything (after all, who does?), but we do have the freedom to vote, to protest, to criticise the government, to speak our minds, and we have a free press. If you don't have all of those, you don't have any freedom worth defending.
John Galt well if you want to support a moron, I'm gonna call you out.
Wait big nose is there? It must be great then......
Freedom doesn't mean that you can do anything without people criticizing you for it. You can wear Trump shirts all day and all night, and no one will arrest you, fine you or restrict your access to public areas. The government doesn't care. However, other people are also free to call you an idiot if they want to. That, too, is freedom.
rhysepoos, Really? And how has that worked out for you? Except create unparalleled division and those very freedoms are abused by activists to destabilize your country. Democracy has lost its way, a friendly dictator is seeming like a sane option compared to the current bipolar political system.

Paul Anthony *Thanks for taking the time to post an intelligent comment in the RUclips wilderness.* I believe your words because you (a) appreciate bunnies; and (b) are a real person not hiding behind an online pseudo. Okay, I believe you and appreciate your input. It makes sense. I mean, all societies involve trade-offs. Complete top-to-bottom social order and peace... or 100% free speech, even if the speech is incendiary and hateful and creates needless violence. Total freedom of religion... or a country full of religious lunatics and cults who fleece the masses without paying any tax. On and on... no system is perfect, and sometimes it appears that a strong ruler is necessary during times of upheaval and transition. People do forget that Eastern Europe is so, so, so not like France or the UK or the US in terms of tradition, religion, culture, historical influences, basic social institutions, etc. That said, I don't see this program as propaganda per se -- I see it as a news show told from a singular point of view -- I'm sure a program about the UK produced in Belarus would be equally biased (emphasizing hookers and hooligans no doubt). If Belarus did a show on the Democratic US, they could emphasis the enormous prison population, the fact that over 40% of adult citizens are functionally (or completely) illiterate, racism, gun violence, etc... right?
Wrong. They haven't and they wouldn't it.
To all this people questioning this video: what the hell? Have you even been in Belarus?
I live in Minsk. Some parts of this short documentary are a bit exaggerated but in general it's pretty close.
After 2010 elections 600+ people were detained, a lot of people were beaten up (including journalists and even undercover cops in the crowd), SEVEN out of 9 candidates were imprisoned, two got pretty seriously bitten by the police, and one is still in prison.
And the lack of freedom of speech is not the worst thing. Economy has to be free. If you try to manipulate it, it'll bite you. If you live in a developed country you can't even imagine 15% annual inflation and 40-50% loan rates. People literally loose their money cause of this almost every 2-3 years. Imagine living in constant fear of loosing all your earnings and you'll understand how most of people live here.
And now we've entered recession cause Russia can't provide us with easy credit money anymore.

Their are also protests and petitions which can be signed and put forward to the government. Here in the UK if a petition reaches 100,000 signatures it is debated by Parliament. Their are also various satire programs such as Jon Stewart and John Oliver. Their are many clips on youtube. Free speech in the west allows for criticism of Obama, this is a right Belorussians have yet to gain.
In the UK their are Unions. Unions represent the rights of different sections of societies such as teachers and construction workers ect.. Also, locals can write to their MP on a subject and that MP is obliged to bring it up. A famous and recent example is the UK voting AGAINST air strikes in Syria. This was because the population wrote in to the politicians asking them to vote against it. This right here is freedom of speech.
All of these things Belarus don't have. And as human beings Belorussians have every right to be granted such freedoms. Why are they denied them? This is where the younger generation have to rise up and be heard.
The West is not perfect, no country is perfect but Belarus is seriously lacking. I hope one day such rights and freedoms are established. Peace.
***** I disagree. You believe you are disorganised due to social conditioning. Slav is just a word, a combination of genetics that distinguish you from other humans. In the game of life this is meaningless as we are all the same. Alan Watts talks about this greatly in his books. You don't have to be disorganised, or oppressed - you choose to be. The proof is the many revolutions in history. When a society comes together and makes the choice not to be oppressed, or to suffer - thus demanding change. Sorry if I'm getting too deep or sounding very pretentious. It's just most of the things you mention are meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Peace.
***** Slavs are absolutely an ethnic group, search it.
Their army officers could certainly win a 'silly hat' competition
You know things are in good order when your leader is primarily concerned with filming of the bank (ahem…back) of his head.
I would like to visit belarus it looks like a place worth going to and learning about their culture.
I have Belorussian ancestry myself but honestly i don't know if I would go, it looks like one of those old fart communist shitheads took power and the countries not going anywhere.

Poland isn't, Hungary Finland aren't bad, neither are the Baltics really. Iceland still doing well. It's not a free country, it's run by a lunatic hanging on to Soviet dreams. Just take the statement "Better a dictator than gay", some people either bash dictators or gays, this statement shows the problem though, the guy replies with something irrelevant to piss people off. It's not a free country, there is huge amounts of problem in the economy regarding "free market", in case you didn't notice Belarus is centralized and still flying under Soviet Belorussian flag. The true Belorussian (White Rus'ian) flag is white, red, white with a horse and of all things a MEDIEVAL KNIGHT on top of it...

Still could of been worse lukashenko could of been gay.
I don't think Belarus has the Soviet economic system I mean look at all the new sparkling cars on the road, if the economy was completely centralized like Soviet Union, it wouldn't look anything like this.

How come they can’t say anything good at all about this country?
The video is not about the country but about the REGIME.
Costel Atanasiu
I agree. My point though is why only discuss the regime and not say anything good about the nation of Belarus?
This is called "what-aboutism". I talk about the crimes committed by the communism and somebody in the audience says "yeah, but what about crimes committed by the fascists?", I talk about the crimes committed by the fascists, somebody interrupts me "yeah, but what about the crimes committed by the communists?". Not matter what point I am trying to make there is a guy out there that tries to invalidate it because I am not talking about things he wants to hear. Why can't we talk about one subject at a time?
In the above segment the subject was the Lukashenko regime. This was not a video about the people of Belarus, about the architecture or natural wonders. Just because the reporters didn't touch the subject it doesn't mean they don't care or don't appreciate them.
I went to Belarus for a job for 2 years. I could walk back to my apartment at night and felt completely safe. People are so polite, respectful, welcoming and just really nice. The police treat tourists like royalty. They are so nice to visitors. You never see drug addicts or prostitutes, because yes they do get arrested, and the streets are always clean and safe.
I also worked in New York for 2.5 years as an intern, and was mugged 5 times. Then I did another 3 year work program in Germany, and was mugged 1 time by a drug addict gypsy, and 6 months ago I went to visit a college female friend, and you can't even walk around at night in Germany anymore, out of fear of being raped by refugees.
You can listen to these "journalists" who try to make Russia and Belarus out to be evil places, but I never felt so safe in my entire adult life, like I did walking around Belarus.
That's all I have to say, in case anyone wants to know the truth about such a beautiful country.

"After President awarded himself 80% of the vote". Yes, there is definitely rigging there, however majority is still with him. After seeing what happened in Ukraine with the help of "democratic" West, he will enjoy even more public support in the future.
Alex Orehowski so what happened in Ukraine explain for me Ukrainian citizen. Interesting to hear from russian troll
1/3 of the country moved out, 40% unemployment, fall of gryvna and massive takeover of whatever industries left by Dzjakula and his cronies. I live in USA in baptist community of 10000 Ukrainians. A lot of them just moved within last 6 months from Ukraine. Ulada is out of control. Watch Sharij, Semchenko and Bondarenko, if you are Ukrainian, you should have heard of those guys.
My account has content, yours does not. Who is the troll I wonder?

This is for sure a crazy time in history, but when isn't? I have uncovered so many feelings hidden in me. Feelings coming from the human war, covid, racism, human trafficking, and politics. Compassion not just for Ukraine, many many non European countries have and still suffer and deserve your compassion too.Theybhavent received much of that as Ukraine is now why?
Ryan Moss. Then you go and pick a team? 👍 you do realise that's what starts wars, picking a team like it's a sport. Hey I'm on team Russia because everyone is on team Ukraine. I allways pick the underdog that everyone is bullying. So that's why to not be hypocritical I am not crying about this war, Putin has been trying to avoid a war for years and Ukraine has actual Nazis in their police force and goveñment. So yeah since I do hate actual Nazis id like to see them removed from the face of the earth. finally and forever, absolutely the most racist of all.
You know a country is crummy when you never even heard of it haha
Even though they have Lenin's statues, Belarus is not a communist country. It's a dictatorship run by Lucashenko. There is a difference between the two.
Belarus is a beautiful country and people are welcoming, i had the chance to visit the citadel of brest and its heroic history.
'Europe's LAST dictatorship...'??? What nonsense.
For the sake of His sorrowful Passion have mercy on us and on the whole world.
lOl My Aunt lives in Belarus and I've been visiting Belarus from quite a long time.People love Alexander Lukashenko especially the poor people cause they know if western style democracy arrived in this country. They'll die. Please stop lying about the country and President you don't know of.Just cause he isn't joining EU and NATO doesn't mean he is bad.
+Veziley Kerzoyayev
They see him as bad because he, like Putin, is not playing ball with the Western "Democratic" leaders (Defy Washington or Brussels and you are the Enemy). Putin and Lukashenko are two leaders of a rising resistance force against Western "Democracy", Assad in Syria being another. We, the awakened peoples, may or may not have lost Ukraine to the West, but I am Confident that Lukashenko and Putin will not make the same mistakes Yanukovych did.
I also believe that Lukashenko and Putin are Fully aware that there are forces in and outside their nations that want Maidan-style revolutions to take them out of power and put Pro-Washington/Pro-Brussels puppets in. Lukashenko addressed it a few days ago during the prayer in Belarus on October 2nd: "“There are only a few such people in our country, but they want to repeat the Ukrainian events in Belarus and to turn all this into a dirty political campaign."
and Putin has made moved against fears of a Maidan-coup by banning Foreign NGOs.
These two nations, led by these two wonderful Nationalist men, are Not about to give their Sovereignty away to the Western vultures without a fight.
+Veziley Kerzoyayev They don't know that, they've been told that. Western style democracy delivers the highest standard of living on the planet for the poor. At any rate, if the people love him so much why does he need such gigantic oppressive state bureaucracy? Why are protests banned? Why are journalists routinely imprisoned? Why are there not free and fair elections? Give the Belarusian people more credit.
Indeed, I never stated that Western countries were some sort of utopia.
Communist countries still have many homeless people. Human beings by their nature have troubles with depression, drugs, stress and loss. All manner of things that can conspire to put someone in the gutter and no amount of state intervention can prevent that.
Communism equals a totalitarian state where you're not allowed to freely associate and think for yourself.
Communist societies inevitably repress some of their people. The great leap forward: 30 million dead. The red terror: 2 million dead. Stalinist purges: 20 million dead. Khmer Rouge revolution: 8 million dead.
Communism does not value human life and reduces human beings to mere drones.
The zealotry of Communism has meant 100 millions of innocent people losing their lives. Very, very, very far from perfect.
All civilizations eventually collapse and the USA will no different. What follows pax Americana, well, no one knows.

At 12:18 Lukashenko says “As for those who are screaming about dictatorship, when I hear that come up I think that it is better to be a dictator - than to be gay.”
Amazing!-I wasn’t aware that Belarus offered the option of a role in government as an alternative to some inconvenient psychological or medical condition. Are other choices offered? Such as, “Boris, you may be the Deputy Secretary for Agriculture, or left-handed-your choice!” Or maybe “Nadia, it’s time to choose: Interim Director for the Council on Foreign Relations, or a severe allergy to cat dander! Hurry up, dear, we’re waiting!”
