I excursed to Minsk in 2019. The people were friendly, streets were lively, shelves were full, and all attractions were impressive and fervent. There was nothing imperfect of the country; it felt nostalgic. The air was clean, forests were sprawling, and children swam in lakes whilst vendors amassed customers. There had been no instance of any political instability - the capital was pleased, gregarious, and an exceptional visit. I do not see any of this facile, heavily-worded documentary as true, for I was there myself.

You know what, I've traveled to Minsk Belarus last year, I plan to go again this year, because it's one of the nicest places I've been to in Europe. And after watching your "undercover" I won't change my mind, sorry. I've never felt so safe in a capital as in Minsk, even at night. Never seen so clean streets and buildings. Didn't have any troubles during my stay with authorities, even though I had to stay a day more. It was visa-free trip and I enjoyed a peaceful and calm country with nice people and beautiful city with colored buildings and awesome lights at night. Belarus has contactless card payment, you can use your credit card pretty much everywhere in Minsk and you won't be scammed. It has a high growing 2.0 IT sector.
Unlike Ukraine, it's a safe and peaceful place where you don't risk to be robbed, assaulted, shot or kidnapped at every moment. You at Channel 4 might prefer current Ukraine to Belarus, but let me disagree on this matter!
And how pathetic when you pretend they had to clean Minsk of its drunks and prostitutes. I saw many many more drunks when I was in Manchester or in Amsterdam than in Minsk. I was even surprised to see so few compared with Western Europe average.

Many who lived during that period said that the streets were safer; there were no thugs and whatnot. There was also no opposition whatsoever because he controlled EVERYTHING. Anyone who spoke against his mandates were taken for a ride. I think a Salvadoran writer said it the best: "There was peace alright. A cemetery kind of peace."

As the US declines (and it IS declining - look at Gary, Baltimore. Detroit, Philly or heck even Chicago) they are slowly moving their assets to the east and elsewhere. Total freedom of religion... or a country full of religious lunatics and cults who fleece the masses without paying any tax. On and on... no system is perfect, and sometimes it appears that a strong ruler is necessary during times of upheaval and transition. People do forget that Eastern Europe is so, so, so not like France or the UK or the US in terms of tradition, religion, culture, historical influences, basic social institutions, etc. That said, I don't see this program as propaganda per se -- I see it as a news show told from a singular point of view -- I'm sure a program about the UK produced in Belarus would be equally biased (emphasizing hookers and hooligans no doubt). If Belarus did a show on the Democratic US, they could emphasis the enormous prison population, the fact that over 40% of adult citizens are functionally (or completely) illiterate, racism, gun violence, etc... right?

To all this people questioning this video: what the hell? Have you even been in Belarus?
I live in Minsk. Some parts of this short documentary are a bit exaggerated but in general it's pretty close.
After 2010 elections 600+ people were detained, a lot of people were beaten up (including journalists and even undercover cops in the crowd), SEVEN out of 9 candidates were imprisoned, two got pretty seriously bitten by the police, and one is still in prison.
And the lack of freedom of speech is not the worst thing. Economy has to be free. If you try to manipulate it, it'll bite you. If you live in a developed country you can't even imagine 15% annual inflation and 40-50% loan rates. People literally loose their money cause of this almost every 2-3 years. Imagine living in constant fear of loosing all your earnings and you'll understand how most of people live here.
And now we've entered recession cause Russia can't provide us with easy credit money anymore.
Next elections are in October but there's no hope for any change.

Алеся Лабоцкая Hi, in the west there are various societies and organisations that gather regularly and discuss their ideas. Their are also protests and petitions which can be signed and put forward to the government. Here in the UK if a petition reaches 100,000 signatures it is debated by Parliament. Their are also various satire programs such as Jon Stewart and John Oliver. Their are many clips on youtube. Free speech in the west allows for criticism of Obama, this is a right Belorussians have yet to gain.
In the UK their are Unions. Unions represent the rights of different sections of societies such as teachers and construction workers ect.. Also, locals can write to their MP on a subject and that MP is obliged to bring it up. A famous and recent example is the UK voting AGAINST air strikes in Syria. This was because the population wrote in to the politicians asking them to vote against it. This right here is freedom of speech.
All of these things Belarus don't have. And as human beings Belorussians have every right to be granted such freedoms. Why are they denied them? This is where the younger generation have to rise up and be heard.
The West is not perfect, no country is perfect but Belarus is seriously lacking. I hope one day such rights and freedoms are established. Peace.

In the game of life this is meaningless as we are all the same. Alan Watts talks about this greatly in his books. You don't have to be disorganised, or oppressed - you choose to be. The proof is the many revolutions in history. When a society comes together and makes the choice not to be oppressed, or to suffer - thus demanding change. Sorry if I'm getting too deep or sounding very pretentious. It's just most of the things you mention are meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Peace.

It's not a free country, there is huge amounts of problem in the economy regarding "free market", in case you didn't notice Belarus is centralized and still flying under Soviet Belorussian flag. The true Belorussian (White Rus'ian) flag is white, red, white with a horse and of all things a MEDIEVAL KNIGHT on top of it...

I talk about the crimes committed by the communism and somebody in the audience says "yeah, but what about crimes committed by the fascists?", I talk about the crimes committed by the fascists, somebody interrupts me "yeah, but what about the crimes committed by the communists?". Not matter what point I am trying to make there is a guy out there that tries to invalidate it because I am not talking about things he wants to hear. Why can't we talk about one subject at a time?
In the above segment the subject was the Lukashenko regime. This was not a video about the people of Belarus, about the architecture or natural wonders. Just because the reporters didn't touch the subject it doesn't mean they don't care or don't appreciate them.

I went to Belarus for a job for 2 years. I could walk back to my apartment at night and felt completely safe. People are so polite, respectful, welcoming and just really nice. The police treat tourists like royalty. They are so nice to visitors. You never see drug addicts or prostitutes, because yes they do get arrested, and the streets are always clean and safe.
I also worked in New York for 2.5 years as an intern, and was mugged 5 times. Then I did another 3 year work program in Germany, and was mugged 1 time by a drug addict gypsy, and 6 months ago I went to visit a college female friend, and you can't even walk around at night in Germany anymore, out of fear of being raped by refugees.
You can listen to these "journalists" who try to make Russia and Belarus out to be evil places, but I never felt so safe in my entire adult life, like I did walking around Belarus.
That's all I have to say, in case anyone wants to know the truth about such a beautiful country.

They see him as bad because he, like Putin, is not playing ball with the Western "Democratic" leaders (Defy Washington or Brussels and you are the Enemy). Putin and Lukashenko are two leaders of a rising resistance force against Western "Democracy", Assad in Syria being another. We, the awakened peoples, may or may not have lost Ukraine to the West, but I am Confident that Lukashenko and Putin will not make the same mistakes Yanukovych did.
I also believe that Lukashenko and Putin are Fully aware that there are forces in and outside their nations that want Maidan-style revolutions to take them out of power and put Pro-Washington/Pro-Brussels puppets in. Lukashenko addressed it a few days ago during the prayer in Belarus on October 2nd: "“There are only a few such people in our country, but they want to repeat the Ukrainian events in Belarus and to turn all this into a dirty political campaign."
and Putin has made moved against fears of a Maidan-coup by banning Foreign NGOs.
These two nations, led by these two wonderful Nationalist men, are Not about to give their Sovereignty away to the Western vultures without a fight.

Communist countries still have many homeless people. Human beings by their nature have troubles with depression, drugs, stress and loss. All manner of things that can conspire to put someone in the gutter and no amount of state intervention can prevent that.
Communism equals a totalitarian state where you're not allowed to freely associate and think for yourself.
Communist societies inevitably repress some of their people. The great leap forward: 30 million dead. The red terror: 2 million dead. Stalinist purges: 20 million dead. Khmer Rouge revolution: 8 million dead.
Communism does not value human life and reduces human beings to mere drones.
The zealotry of Communism has meant 100 millions of innocent people losing their lives. Very, very, very far from perfect.
All civilizations eventually collapse and the USA will no different. What follows pax Americana, well, no one knows.
