In addition to everything that's great about this performance, Paula Cole has the most wonderful smile - she just radiates joy at being part of the magic!
Yeah that's possible when you have the ability to have some of the best musicians of their respective craft on the planet. Tony Levin is a God among men when it comes to bass, the man is a living legend. And that's just the bassist!!! Peter Gabriel is responsible for crafting the modern show with the level of entertainment he brings, people been copying him since the 70's, and the man that created it is still the king
The most infectious part of this is how much fun they're all having on stage. His concerts are incredibly theatrical and have a resonant power that is so rare. What a gem of an artist. And that's all beside the incredible musicianship and compositions. Incredible.
I never had the privilege of seeing him live but based on what I know, I totally agree with what you are saying. What I really do not understand is why more people do not recognize Peter as a first-tier songwriter/performer of his generation. I would rather see or listen to him than Springsteen or Phil Collins.
Dude you should check out " Sing a simple Song" Sly and the Family Stone , or Herbie Hancock Chamillion , sorry my spelling needs work , Stanley Clark RTF , Victor Wooten , Larry Graham etc. But it is a Bad Ass bass Line
@@Muglinnor Tony Levin indeed! Plus it is a joy to watch him have such a blast on stage as he has played with Peter throughout the decades. (Check out the montage vid of "Solsbury Hill" to see more of that.)
We have a lineup of the best showmen and women in the world right here. All on one stage. I pray it neve gets lost in the chaos of the N.W.O. May passion and love reign for life and love.
Who doesn't think of the video while this song is playing? I remember first seeing it, the 80's had such creativity in videos, but this song is still so great to watch.
It isn't the album version. Go listen to them back to back. Just accept people from his generation have talent not like the shit that's produced these days
Wow, this brings back memories! I saw him on this tour. That stage was awesome, filled with trap doors and elevators and conveyor belts and hidden ramps and stuff. Great!
I'm still a fan.. I remember listening to his stuff back in the early 80's and whenever I hear and now watch videos like this, I feel compelled to watch things like "Suppers Ready" and the like.
The deal on Gabriel's live recordings is that he does take the live masters back and "correct" them . Most artist do. Gabriel has the class enough to own up to it. Ifv you look at the packaging..it says "based onn a love performance". With that said, Gabriel live will bring you closer to God.
I was wondering what was going on here. At 3:01 Tony is not playing but the bassline goes on. Nothing wrong with it, but I thought they must've had some keys doing the low end somewhere as well for that to happen. And I just realized I answered a 16 year old YT comment. Wow.
This is the single most amazing video on RUclips. I have watched this ridiculously awesome video like 40 times now. And look how happy and cute Paula Cole was!! What happened? Thumbs up for Peter Gabriel's silly but at the same time somehow badass pelvic gyrations and his creepy BUT FUN nymphomaniac "dance moves" he lays on Paula Cole.
A brilliant live vocalist. I have seen a number of his performances on here and Sky Arts recently showed live in Paris. I keep watching for signs of miming because he's ridiculously good singing live.
This was the tour that I saw him in concert. Great show. And remember the video to this? It was groundbreaking, one of the apex videos of the golden age of music videos. Wish I had a few hours of VHS tape of MTV from back in those days (1980 to 88 or so). That would be a real time machine.
All of these hateful words on the video of a beautiful artist is sad to see. Take the high road and rise above the negativity, it's what Peter Gabriel wants for you.
My father always played Gabriels tracks when i was young and I can understand why they've stuck with me :) He's a thorough legend :D fantastic musical influence!
akways find it annoying when people drop in their perceived accomplishments or hardships! We ould all do this, thankfully all of us arent self obsessed
I'm not sure if this lyric passage was written this way. But the way I interprete it is; "SHOW FOR ME" (meaning: be there for me.) "I WILL CHAUFFER YOU" (meaning: I will carry you.) Anybody else?
Let's take moment to realize how adorable Paula Cole is with her little spin jumps at 2:34 lol No wonder that bass line is so tasty! It is Tony Levin! “Wait, Peter we have to do that weird walk too?” “Yep” damn, that synth gives ya chills. awesome.
Caution, Internet Traveler! You have made the very public error of joking about a Prog icon in the presence of Prog fans. Run while you can, before they don their Steve Hackett face-masks and hunt you down with Mellotrons brandished.
Man that bass line is so groovy. Tony Levin is superb, he makes his bass work the driving force behind any song he performs on.
And manu katche
He's so good he can even play the bass without plucking it at 1:42 😉
@@laurentohannessian9948 The talent on that stage was STELLAR! I am SO sorry I missed that tour.
He played on Gowan records too he's a boss.
In addition to everything that's great about this performance, Paula Cole has the most wonderful smile - she just radiates joy at being part of the magic!
The rest of her ain't too bad either.
Who is she? She exudes so much stuff. She's probably 90 by now, but I need to go research her.
Agree 1000%❤❤
She had a very successful solo album in 1997
Peter sure knows how to put a band together.
I just love it when a live version of a song sounds bigger and gutsier than the record.
Absolutely ❤

@@fatherof3husbandto1 Tony is supernatural.
@@fatherof3husbandto1 Not to mention Paula Cole singing backup
Kinda like how Queens version of "Hammer to Fall" from Live Aid is better than the studio track?
He and Paula complement each other so well, tall, slender, great voices, he looks great.
Si!!!😊
what I like about this show is that all performers seems to enjoy what they are doing, it makes it fun to watch, not like nowadays music. Great Vid.
Tony Levin, Manu Katché, and...Paula Cole putting that groove on lockdown. Peter Gabriel always, always calls the best musicians.
The most infectious part of this is how much fun they're all having on stage. His concerts are incredibly theatrical and have a resonant power that is so rare. What a gem of an artist. And that's all beside the incredible musicianship and compositions. Incredible.

If I had to watch one music video over and over for the rest of my life, it would be this one.

Peak Peter. The hair, waistcoat, the voice.
Amazing! Love this man! The band is incredible!
Possibly one of the most distinctive voices in rock music
Not just possibly, fact. Musical genius, pure Aquarian innovation and spontaneity.

One of the best versions. Together with Paula Cole and that great band.
Peter Gabriel. One of the worlds all time best songwriters & performers. Love him! ♥️
I love this man so much!!! Such memories. Clearly one of the best songs ever. It’s brilliant in many ways.
One of my biggest regrets is not seeing this genius and humble man play live.
Love forever.

Manu Katche and Tony Levin's groove here is dangerously infectious.
This is the first time I've recorded live version of this song and I must say I was not expecting this to sound and look this good! It rocks!
Manu Katche and Tony Levin's groove here is dangerously infectious.
the_katman Manu Katche is just amazing , the way he hits his cymbals out of the beat is just tremendous
The HORNS make this ROCK !!
Nothing like BRASS to make any song BETTER !!
This is the most pimp song ever written. How many women out there would not absolutely love hearing a man sing this to her? Just straight up genius.
Greetings from Reno, Nevada.
This brought a Thursday morning smile.
This was one of his best performances. I have the DVD signed by the band and I will have it until I die.
Peter Gabriel is a legend
A supreme performer totally at ease with his audience.
Secret World Tour 1993-94. Saw 1st leg June 19, 1993 Worcester, Mass. Great show & tour.
Unbelievable live sound when I saw him. Drummer was incredible too.
Sir Manu KATCHÉ !
Awesome! Peter is the man. His voice is unique. What a great performer with a lot of enthusiasm.
Such a unique talent. So underplayed. Solsbury Hill such a happy song. Sledgehammer top song. Just love PG.
Right on all counts!
The same sound as if it were recorded in a studio! Only great musicians can do this! Peter's special voice always delights me!
