      No they have not I have had two replaced in a year. I love Ryobi I am so disappointed in the quality, the noise level is unacceptable and failure rate two in one year is bad. I just received the 2nd replacement I have left it in the box I am going to call Home Depot and see if they will let me return it.

      I got one of the new ones last night, plastic snapped at the connector in first use. Hardly any pressure and due to the weight there is always going to be pressure. It is just flimsy plastic at the coupler.
      First Ryobi tool that I can say I am not at all impressed with.
      Returning today to home depot.

    I have the 2020 version of this vacuum. This version comes with a separate switch so I can keep the brush on or off as needed. Also the filter does not clog on mine and the collection chamber has the debris. So Ryobi must have made design changes/improvements over the last 2 years. Maybe they saw your review. Oh, but one thing that hasn't changed is that when first turned on, it's still and hi speed then low speed before you can turn it off. But I don't care. Still a great product.

    I've had the stickvac for almost a year now. It is our go to vacuum around the house. We really don't mind the weight, it's actually a plus for us. It keeps the vacuum steadily upright when standing it up. We've also learned to take the canister off so that the filter doesn't fall out. I'm definitely going to look in to the new filter design though. Thanks for the video, I understand you're trying to produce content but a pros/cons all in one video is the way to go imo. 👍

  • @CupidKeys1
    @CupidKeys1 6 лет назад +26

    OK. I feel like you should do the best and worst at the same time. Also I feel you really pushed this one.
    1. You didn't state the weight and didn't even compare it to vacuums like it.
    2. With vacuums like this the rollers are almost always on. I've personally never seen them turn off.
    3. Most people just want to use the high speed. Low would be for cleaning up a more dusty material on a smother surface like hard wood.
    4. The filter clogs to keep the engine breathing. This particular system has a double air passing system to keep it alive.
    5. Should have been part of 4 as itself still on the filter, but may be the 2nd point I can actually give you. But if there were a locking mechanism that's one more thing that may break later. I have had that happen with many other systems.
    Again, probably best to do worst and best in one segment or else you may turn potential buyers away. I didn't like this video but I didn't give it a thumbs down. If I would have to give my griefs on this vacuum it would be as follows.
    1. Charge time. Slower than normal chargers but easily solved by battery switch.
    2. Filters. Had to order directly from Ryobi so not available in stirs, but they aren't very wash reuse friendly.
    3. Brush cleaning, it happens but would be better if it were a tool free job.
    4. Accessories. Tools are good but the duster head could have been made longer so it doesn't bump against system when using.
    5. Hanging pad. Short after this hit the market there is an ever ready pool vacation that chargers wirelessly. If ever the hanging part breaks we would likely have to replace the whole charger or vacuum unit or just pull batteries from a regular charger.

    The 7181 version I have does have a roller off button right below the two speed, and there is an LED light, and tool-less roller removal. Also there is a pre-filter screen, and it is hard to pull the filter setup out. No falling out. You are missing a part there. The canister has a spring door up front for emptying. It is heave, so only 1 of your is currently valid. But thee weight does not bother me. It has a 70,000 rpm 45 min. run time motor compared to the newer slim model 60,000 rpm, and 30 min run time.

    This is only 3lbs heavier than my current cordless stick vacuum. My upright is double the weight at about 18 lbs, which is fairly standard. Older vacuums were even heavier so I have to wonder who you think was doing most of the vacuuming in the mid to late twentieth century 🤔

  • @jpozenel
    @jpozenel 4 года назад +10

    I just bought the newest version of this vacuum at Home Depot (6/15/20). Like many others, I experienced dirt that was picked up going right past the prefilter and clogging the inner filter assembly. Not just a little dirt, but all dirt. I took the filters out twice to clean them.
    The problem is that the filters weren't installed properly either when manufactured or by myself after cleaning them. I noticed that there are flat spots on the prefilter and filter assembly that need to be in alignment. Those flat spots must be inserted into the dust bowl, lining up with its own flat side. I pushed the filters in tightly, and now the prefilter is preventing the dirt to bypass it.
    If you see dirt accumulating on the inner filter assembly, stop vacuuming and make sure all is aligned properly. I also found that if the rotating brush stops because of an obstruction, I would not rotate again until I removed the battery and then reinserted it. This all sounds like a real pain(and it is), but I'll learn to live with it.

    I have had this vac since it was released. My only issue is that with long hair cats in the house hold, the hair gets wrapped around the brushes. There is no easy way to clean the head. After a while, the hair gets into the bearings and jams the brushes. I have to disassemble the head to clean out the bearing housing.

    I read the comment about the new filter, but I'm still not sold. I have a old, light-weight vacuum that I use only for the tiny rug at the entryway. The canister design is just like the Ryobi's and It has the same problem in that the filter gets clogged fast - like really fast! The reason is because there is no cyclone action and all of the dirt goes straight toward the suction part of the vacuum, meaning the filter. What I do is to put a "pre-filter" in the form of a paper towel over the vacuum's filter, but that doesn't really resolve the problem because the dirt is still getting sucked onto the filter/pre-filter. The only real solution is to redesign the vacuum for cyclonic action, that's why the Dysons work so good. Are you listening Ryobi? I really want this vacuum!

    • @peterpatina63
      @peterpatina63 5 лет назад +2

      The new mesh filter in front of the paper filter stops the paper filter from clogging. Only problem now is mesh filter clogs. Solution - bought a pack of scourer pads and i cut one to size to fit in front of mesh filter [ 2 second job] and now i can fill the canister with the finest dust and the suction isn't compromised. For a test i vacuumed one room with a good quality upright plug in vacuum and then went over it with the ryobi. The ryobi picked up quite a bit of fine dust that the other vacuum left behind. The ryobi is the best vacuum i have ever owned. The sub filter that i made, made it so so much better.

    Many electric devices with multiple speeds start with the highest power setting because it’s better for the motor in the long term. Spooling up a motor with low power and slow speed actually wears the motor faster. That’s probably why it goes Off-High-Low.

    Thanks for the review. I guess it is necessary as no item pleases everyone completely. I have owned my P724 for a couple of months and have not noticed any of the things you mentioned. Perhaps it is because all my kids are grown and out of the house so the "kid factor" doesn't apply. I agree with another poster that combining 5 best and 5 worst in the same video would be productive. I'm 75 and although in pretty good shape, don't find it very heavy at all, so viewing your review without an immediate comparison would give me pause when considering it and I would miss out on what I consider a really good product. Regarding the filter falling out, I can see where that may be irritating since you would have to go get a vacuum and clean it up... oh wait... I have one in my hand! Anyway, I appear to be reviewing your review. Didn't mean to get picky. It is a good presentation and as I stated, combining best/worse in one video would be on my wish list.

  • @MrMarkVanSomething

    The weight would be a bit less of a problem if the handle was further back. I find that part of the discomfort while vacuuming, is you feel like you have to tilt your hand forward to push the cleaning head onto the floor. So yeah - a weight and also balance issue. But thats not the biggest problem. The rotating brush in the head wraps up with hair, and is very difficult to clean. They could make it removable for easy cleaning. The mechanism that drives the rotating brush in the head is weak, and ours got noisy after a couple of months, then kept jamming, an is now unusable.They should use a better quality roller mechanism. I was keen on this product because it works with my Ryobi batteries, but will now be buying a different incompatible brand because of the issues with this product. I only had this vacuum for a year, and was hoping for something better.

    Dude, you're missing a component inside your filter chamber. Mine shipped with a fine screen component that keeps everything but the finest dust from reaching the paper filter you're so loudly complaining about. It makes emptying the collection chamber via the trap door much easier and obviates the need to remove the entire collection chamber except for when you need to replace the paper filter. Either they shipped you an incomplete unit, or you're not paying attention.

      U want more than tech can give at the moment. Decrease weight and people would bitch about run time. If u want x amp hrs it's gonna weigh y amount until science makes a better bat. As for suction. I just ran it at the store fresh filter. Strongest I've tried and I own p714 have tried 2 other mfgs with in last 3 months.
      The filter part is unforgivable. They need a pre-filter like the p714. They could have put the hole further forward and every done the cyclone trick. If I had a 3d printer and time I'd make a better canister and buy this vac.
      I really like the p714 and the stick seemed better suction off bat I demoed it next to 300buck Dyson.
      Dyson marketing says it's the Era of cordless but that's just it man... Its a fucking advertisement. Thesr vacs are amazing for what they are.. But they aren't quite there yet with battery tech

  • @garylangley4502
    @garylangley4502 Год назад

    This is a huge one. The brush roller head is held together with security Torx head screws. To change the belt, or clean the brush roller, a #10 torx driver is needed. It must be the type that is a thin screw driver. A kit with changeable bits will not work. Hair got in the area at the end of the roller on ours. It caused friction and melted the plastic brush roller to the plastic end plate, welding the 2 pieces together. I had a small vacuum store many years ago, and no other manufacturer did anything like this. Ryobi also does not sell the parts I need to fix it. A complete floor brush assembly costs $107 with shipping. Their web site has a distorted code that the customer must type in a box, and I can't read it most of the time. Frustration!

    I looked at this vac and realised that it's a cousin of the vax blade 2 max, which I bought. But the vax uses a 3 stage cyclonic filtration system, the bin can be full and it will still suck a golf ball through a garden hose. You press a button and the bin comes off the power head and you can take it outside to the garbage bin, press another button and all the dirt just falls out. 1000x better design. I haven't had to clean the filter in months.

    I'm a woman and I agree with this list.. but the fact that it uses all the same batteries as the other tools is a big draw. If Ryobi made a narrower 18v battery with release buttons for those of us with shorter hand-spans that would be great. That's my number1 complaint with the Ryobi products. I own many Rybi tools but find the stick vac to be the most poorly designed tool in my inventory. \
    First it is heavy, my wife has difficulty vacuuming just three rooms. Second, it clogs easily and you are constantly having to clean the the holding tank. Third, cleaning the brush (we have dogs) it is ridiculous. You can not remove the brush and have to cut through hair with scissors and pull out with your finders. The brush does not come out of the head as on most vacs. You say in your video that some of these problems are ot deal breakers but after owning it for a period of tie and the inconvenience of all combined are deal breakers. I'm going out tomorrow and get a new stick vac of some other make. This one is just a $200 loss.

If "kids" are using it, OR you vacuumed your house as you stated, then you shouldn't be allowed out shopping on your own. Much less opening the box - you're missing parts of the filter. You’re just being super nit-picky about things that aren’t real issues. The things that really “suck” about it is the hose connecting the head to the stick will tear and break easily with head unit being about $75 to replace, you cannot replace only the hose. Also the battery clips are prone to breaking easily. I’m on the edge about buying a new one but it’s nice having interchangeable batteries. I might just have to look at a different brand.

    My top 5 dislikes: 1. Filter - needs a slippery metal mesh pre-filter like the handvac so you can tap the cannister and the dirt will fall out of the bottom door. 2. Low speed is useless. Should have one speed with maybe a 'turbo' button. 3. The roller brush is hard to clean. Should come apart so can keep clean.4. The charging mount is flimsy. Seems like it could break easily under weight of vac, stick, roller. 5. Slow charging. It takes a day to charge a 4ah. Needs to be more than trickle charge.

    After having owned the Ryobi stick vac for 7 months now, I can't recommend it in any way.
    It's useless.
    I love the One+ range of tools generally, but this one is terrible.
    The fatal issue it has is the brush head. The bearing on the belt driven side of the head overheats and eventually ceases up completely. I thought it was just a manufacturing fault with my particular one, so took it back and replaced it, but now the replacement has started doing the same thing. On top of this my wife finds it too heavy to use comfortably, so I end up doing all the vacuuming. It does choke up with dust quite quickly even with the mesh filter, but most stick vacs do in my experience, and it's pretty easy to empty and clean out with some compressed air. The brush reel in the head cannot be removed easily for cleaning, requiring a screwdriver and 3 screws to do so. The rest of the unit is fine, suction is pretty decent and it is sold - but it's fatally flawed unfortunately.
    I will be taking mine back for a full refund this week and purchasing something else to replace it.
