Perhaps. But I would not velcro it to the ASD improperly as you have. The plastic side, with the ventilation, antennae, and on-switch _should be facing outwards._ The velcro should be attached to the Apple logo side.
Hey, here’s and idea. Instead of putting the Velcro on the bottom of your Mac mini, what about putting it on the top where the Apple logo is. This way, you can easily reach the power button instead of having to un-peel the whole mac whenever you need to do a hard restart? In addition, this will allow more airflow around the base keeping the whole affair cooler. After all, if you’ve stuck it on the back of your monitor anyway, it not like anyones going to see it. 🙂

Zero regrets and I like that I have now separated the computer / display future upgrade path.

as a professional media creator, photography, videography and graphic design. I bought the base 256gb model just to check it out. Programs I use: Capture One, Helicon Focus, Photoshop, indesign, illustrator, Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, word, excel, outlook. Everything works flawlessly and outperforms my M3 MacBook Pro 16" . I still need both, but make no mistake, if you're willing to save your work projects to an external SSD, like I do, its perfect.

I have one since last week and I'm still waiting for my cinema display because UPS fucked up. I had a beefy (for its time) Ryzen 3700x and RX5700XT build from 2019 and a now almost 9 years old Ultrawide LG monitor 3440 x1440 resolution. I used that PC during Covid a lot for gaming, but since the PS5 came out I realized that I rather want to game in the sofa with my OLED TV. Since then my build was just for some Office work, some torrents downloading and watching movies/RUclips videos and for just that it used way too much electricity. So I've decided to go with this one, after leaving the Appple eco sytem for almost 15 years after I owned a mid 2007 Macbook Pro for several years. I do not regret it, even on my LG monito right now, can't wait for my Studio Display.
I’m super happy with my Mac mini M4 Pro. I got the binned version, and it runs like a dream. It’s way faster than my M1 MBP 14”. I wish it had a 1TB SSD, but it’s way too expensive, and it wasn’t an option from my retailer. I do graphic design, and one specific high-intensity graphic caused my InDesign to ‘beach-ball’ on my Mac. But that was the only time I was disappointed. Other than that, I’m really enjoying it. Used Apple AI to rewrite that... lol.
Do you have experience running an offline LLM on a Mac Mini M4 and M4 Pro? Does the Pro have significant advantages over the standard M4 for this use case (given the same amount of RAM and storage)?
@@UKTonyMagillyeah, they have no clue what it means, and how it works, unfortunately. Or... they just are paid to make this mistake to mislead people. 120GB/s is the bandwidth of RAM in base M4.

The base model will do everything you need to. Logic is incredibly efficient with the hardware, AU plugins, etc… and it doesn’t require any GPU. With the processing power in the M4 chip, and with 16gb of RAM, you’ll be able to throw as many plugins on as many tracks as you want without an issue. And if you want it to go even faster, then switch to Reaper 😜
Activity monitor M4 Pro Mini 14/20 - 64GB - 4TB is showing 24GB used of 64GB, I'm just running 2 tab safari, Norton 360, multi video camera streams and mail. The concern of future SSD failure due to TBW usage was a concern, zero memory swapping being seen with this configuration makes me feel better 😄.
Is there something wrong with the M2 Mac mini? It seems to have issues finishing or even running some of the tests. I'm going to be getting an M4 Pro with a bump to the RAM in the new year after the whole crazy expensive Christmas period has died down lol. It'll replace my venerable and very long serving 2013 27" iMac as my main Mac desktop, so I expect to use it for about as long. Even the base model would be a huge improvement but I want to get as long out of it as possible! I have my custom gaming PC if I need some heavier lifting or my M3 MacBook Pro for on tho go stuff.
At 7:20 how do you measure "points". All the other channels I looked at compare how long it took for them to render the scene while you are sharing points. I'm confused. Would appreciate if you explain.
I am thinking hard about an upper spec mini pro. But that is priced up where the studio max is. Think I need to wait to see what the M4 Max studio prices are before I spend $2600 on a mini.
For the past few days, I have been contemplating a switch from Windows and it was the cost of a MacBook (no interest in an iMac) with good specs that was giving me pause since I also need to finally update my iPad ($$) at the same time. I currently run a nicer Windows gaming laptop (but I don't game much) that I bought mostly because of how easy it is to disconnect and lock away when I am away from home for an extended period of time. I rarely take it out of the house. Yet, in my consideration of all of this, I totally forgot about Mac Minis, even though I had one of the very first ones that came out many, many years ago. If you can satisfy your mobile use case with an iPad, a Mac Mini seems like the perfect solution and I could certainly still travel with it if I needed to with a portable monitor (which I carry anyway since my current laptop is only 13"). Finally, they are so much less expensive than a comparable MacBook.
I still have Imac intel 4.2 GHz i7 with 48 GB and Mac Book Pro i7 16 GB, which only works when travelling. I mainly use Adobe Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and switch to Powerpoint, Outlook, Internet etc. I have a lot of windows open at the same time. I had tested mac mini m2 pro with 16GB RAM. Didn't convince me. Sent it back. And waited for m4. Now wanted to switch to m4. But desktop with Studio Display. Can't wait any longer for Mac Studio. My iMac is slowly coming to its knees ;-) Mac mini Base with 32 GB and 1 TB or Mac Mini m4 pro with 48 GB RAM. What is the recommendation? I will definitely go for 1 TB. Time Machine runs on external 4 GB and archive on 2 additional hard drives.

m4 mac mini base model costs around $900 with all the taxes here in my country, is it still worth in this price range or should i look for any other option?
Regarding fan control in the Pro versus the base model: TG Pro is an excellent app that allows you to control the fan speed and monitor temps of all CPU and GPU cores and much more. It's such a useful tool for anyone who wants to monitor their system and have control over their cooling.
I bought the base unit M4 mac mini. Opened a few tabs in Chrome, then opened up my van wrap design in Adobe Illustrator and it pooped it's pants. I then rebooted and then decided to open up Serato and plug in my DJ controller for a test. it also pooped it's pants on loading tracks.
Love the new Mac mini. I think for me for using iTunes and basic email and internet the base model is fine with an 2TB external hard drive for my iTunes. Let’s see what Santa brings
Glad you mention the fan noise: There is some pretty contradictory infos on the internet from "dead silent" to "sounds like a vacuum cleaner", especially for the m4pro version: I am doing a lot of sound design and need a silent machine, I edit in davinci and would need there also silence for normal tasks. I dont mind the vacuum cleaner while rendering though, any experience on that? should I better go with a silent m4 and then upgrade to the studio version when it comes out?
Not having USB-A sucks. They've been trying to push USB-C since like 2016, but let's be honest -- USB-A will always be a thing too. No one likes having to buy a hub. Also, you can get the base one for $499 pretty often, whether it be with EDU/Govt discount or just on sale. It's a heck of a computer at that price.

What can you do with 256GB? Why would that do for most people?
Because you can plug in an external SSD if you need more
as a professional media creator, photography, videography and graphic design.
Very clean, well-organized, elegant video! Thanks!
I press the power button every day lol
I'm using Logic Pro with this (lots of AUs/virtual instrument tasks). Which one do you recommend? Base M4 or M4 pro?
Is that a new Ikea desk which has replaced your old karlby?
Not Ikea - it's a concrete one I found somewhere else (I forget). Karlby did me well for years, though!
My M4 with 512 and 32GB is on the way
I consider the same... But wouldn't it be too small with 512 GB of storage? I think that 1TB would be perfect but it gets a little bit pricey.
@ my current iMac has 512gb and 220gb free. I just have my apps and mac os on the internal ssd. Everything else is on a m2 ssd with 2tb and my 8tb NAS
I had same case, cpu is already Great, 512 is double the speed of 256. I dont need more. Only thning i can not upgrade is RAM. Tost of the time today pc/macs are limited by RAM and sed/hdd. Cpu is already has gigantic speeds.
Used Apple AI to rewrite that... lol.
I think slapping it on the back of the display is not a good idea. Most likely the adhesive will melt due to heat.
@@noelmirando end then - boom on the desk and this thing can dent any desk easy
Do you have experience running an offline LLM on a Mac Mini M4 and M4 Pro? Does the Pro have significant advantages over the standard M4 for this use case (given the same amount of RAM and storage)?
I haven't tried much AI workloads yet
No one is having an issue with the power button on the Mac Mini, except for some youtubers....
Facts, it’s probably just a thing they all say to keep the content going
MOst of the complaints come from Windows users who can't comprehend having a computer that doesn't need constant reboots.
2:54 gigabits per second, not gigabytes
I've noticed that every single tech RUclipsr makes this mistake. Very odd.
I know - i put text on screen highlighting the mistake
@@Thetechchapno, your text on the screen IS the mistake
@@UKTonyMagillyeah, they have no clue what it means, and how it works, unfortunately. Or... they just are paid to make this mistake to mislead people. 120GB/s is the bandwidth of RAM in base M4.
Does Finder still suck though?
Nope, same Finder.
Oh man I wish they didn't cancel the comments on the M4 commercial, I really have a lot of fun reading Apple haters because they sound so damn praising PCs, it's frustrating having to use Windows at work, is sooo slow, unstable and needs reboot all the time.
I’d love to know what you guys recommend for running Logic Pro??
Do you reckon you could mount the Mac Studio to the back of the display with command strips? 🤔
Big NO
No, try the Twelve South backpack
What chair are you using now?
I thought the highest M4 Pro version was the 12c/16c model? Where did he get the 14/20 from?
I’m right there with you. Once I bum specs up that $1000+ begins waking me up from my impulsive buying.
Great review, will be picking one up
For the past few days, I have been contemplating a switch from Windows and it was the cost of a MacBook (no interest in an iMac) with good specs that was giving me pause since I also need to finally update my iPad ($$) at the same time.
Is this M4 applicable to other non apple monitor products?
just ordering - should i go for nano glass display?
Yes!
I purchased the Mac mini 4 base version , the vocal short or voice dictation doesn’t work. Did you face a similar issue ?
What monitor would you recommend to pair with that mini in that $600 range? For photographer
Dell S27
I still have Imac intel 4.2 GHz i7 with 48 GB and Mac Book Pro i7 16 GB, which only works when travelling.
I mainly use Adobe Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and switch to Powerpoint, Outlook, Internet etc. I have a lot of windows open at the same time.
I had tested mac mini m2 pro with 16GB RAM. Didn't convince me. Sent it back. And waited for m4.
Now wanted to switch to m4. But desktop with Studio Display. Can't wait any longer for Mac Studio. My iMac is slowly coming to its knees ;-)
Mac mini Base with 32 GB and 1 TB or Mac Mini m4 pro with 48 GB RAM. What is the recommendation? I will definitely go for 1 TB. Time Machine runs on external 4 GB and archive on 2 additional hard drives.
What cable do you use to connect the Mac mini to the display or iMac ?
It’s an apple studio display so he’s using a thunderbolt 3/4 cable that is included with the display to output full 5k
Need to replace 2011 iMac as need to run Bambu Studio software for 3D printer anyone know if this Mac mini would be up to the task..
Pretty sure it'd be fantastic
@ thanks put it on my Christmas list then..
M4 Base Model Mac Mini can do 4K 120hz right via HDMI 2.1?
If the monitor can support it..
Any recommendations for a monitor to pair this with around the £400 mark?
Hi great info, love to know how you connect the Mac mini M4 basic to the IMac, I have an old iMac 2017 with the Intel 5 which, runs great however not upgradeable any longer, ne great to use the 27 inch screen , rather than junking it
Thank you
m4 mac mini base model costs around $900 with all the taxes here in my country, is it still worth in this price range or should i look for any other option?
Wait a minute. Did he say "power bottom" ?!!!!! I see you😆😍🤩😆😁
It’s a power bottom? PAUSE no diddy 😂 4:04
I’m looking to get the base Mac Mini with 256GB storage. I already have a 2TB Nas storage and enough iCloud storage.
512 is twice master and future Proof for macOS itself
Regarding fan control in the Pro versus the base model: TG Pro is an excellent app that allows you to control the fan speed and monitor temps of all CPU and GPU cores and much more. It's such a useful tool for anyone who wants to monitor their system and have control over their cooling.
Power Bottom 😂😂 Yessir!
Twelve South Backpack is a better solution mate!
Ooh I haven't seen this before - that's great!
@@Thetechchap Sure thing!
Actually i would like to know how a middle model 512/24 compares to the base and high end M4
It's an apple TV case...why not leave it black? :(
I bought the base unit M4 mac mini. Opened a few tabs in Chrome, then opened up my van wrap design in Adobe Illustrator and it pooped it's pants. I then rebooted and then decided to open up Serato and plug in my DJ controller for a test. it also pooped it's pants on loading tracks.
In other words you need more ram for your very ram intensive tasks…
It looks good for a low-cost Mac system configuration.
Love the new Mac mini. I think for me for using iTunes and basic email and internet the base model is fine with an 2TB external hard drive for my iTunes. Let’s see what Santa brings
Steve Jobs is rolling in his grave over this velcro situation haha
Glad you mention the fan noise: There is some pretty contradictory infos on the internet from "dead silent" to "sounds like a vacuum cleaner", especially for the m4pro version: I am doing a lot of sound design and need a silent machine, I edit in davinci and would need there also silence for normal tasks. I dont mind the vacuum cleaner while rendering though, any experience on that? should I better go with a silent m4 and then upgrade to the studio version when it comes out?
As far as I have seen the Pro only kicks on its fan during export/rendering for long periods of time
@@chidorirasenganz Thank you, so good to know!
i dont know why here in brazil the monitor costs more than an imac. its just ridiculous
Nice video
Amazing Information - i have order the 14 core with 64/1tb and studio display
power bottom. Oh wow... that's great.
Is it just me but isn't putting another heat generator, no matter how little, directly on your monitor, a bad idea? 👀
Hey! You gave me a great idea about how to hide my MBP while using as a desktop. Thanks!
the stick on mac is bad ass
Your PC seems more tempting to me.
It's 5x more expensive though! (and mainly for gaming)
how can i connect a samsung odyssey g9 to a mac mini m4 if i already have the display port taken, can i get the same resolution with the hdmi port
Yes..
Does it shut down every 4 hours for 20mins to prevent burn in?
@@pantelistsiolas580 Not that I seen.. It might do it if your outside in the heat.. As they do have thermal protection..
just got mine love it I couldn't believe how tiny it was sadly I don't have a 4k display only a 1440p ultra wide display
Do you think 1440p is good enough?
@ yea it’s not bad but I do want a 4k monitor though
@@ensarguler7684 4K is sth else
I don’t understand what does the M2 studio making on Apple website with its price and being ran over by the M4s
Excellent review💎🦘
Much appreciated
Not having USB-A sucks. They've been trying to push USB-C since like 2016, but let's be honest -- USB-A will always be a thing too. No one likes having to buy a hub.
Also, you can get the base one for $499 pretty often, whether it be with EDU/Govt discount or just on sale. It's a heck of a computer at that price.
Not gonna lie, I don’t miss USB-A at all. I only ever use that connector anymore whenever I’m using a legacy device. At least for anything I use with my Macs/iPads.
@@Royaleoake Same for me.. I have 2 uses for USB. The wireless KB Mouse receiver. And an old stand by KB USB on the side.. Everything else to day is Type C. And was reason I upgraded my old iPhone to the16 Pro Max. Now everything is type C down to the Monitor..
Good Job
M4 mini :
80% faster than M2 in CPU/GPU
3x USB-C/Thunderbolts in Front/Back
Cooler than AIR M2 ( fan )
Yh but the studio display is only 60hz it's horrible to work on while the mac mini m4 is screaming i can do 120hz😭
Mac mini + NAS, and good bye cloud subscriptions
Yes!!
That NAS works great with hosting sites on the base model. Now it's not going host 50k people at once. But it's there to use..
Hi, thank you for your video. If I wanted to get into using AI, specifically, learn how to use LLM's offline using something like Ollama, which model/spec should I go for? - in addition, I'm not a major gamer, but I might join friends from time to time on cross-platform games like No Man’s Sky or Minecraft. Not sure if this is worth considering too? Also, my partner has just started a fiction writing Substack, but she will eventually do a podcast or vlog too, using this Mac. Thanks, Matt
