- Quick video on how to remove the idle shutdown parameter on your Freightliner DD13 or DD15. Some trucks already come set with this feature which shutdowns the engine if the truck has been idle for 5 minutes. It can be removed by using your Diagnostic Link software from Detroit.

Pedro was awesome and super nice. He did this for my truck. Now it doesn't shutoff after 10 mins or whatever it was. Well worth the 80 bucks.
2021 Freightliner SD122 day cab. 6 speed Allison automatic. Figured out if you set the trailer brakes but NOT the tractor brakes it won’t shut down. Wouldn’t do it on much of a grade but it worked today for me. Transmission in neutral and set trailer brakes leave tractor brakes button pushed in 👍 hope this helps till the shop can program it
I got lucky they didn't change the parameters from the factory. It has 70 on the cruise and 68 on the pedal. No idle shutdown. It will idle until empty on mine.

I can view the parameters, but they're all greyed out and can not be modified, using 8.19 dddl8, i believe. How can i remove the greyed out parameters?

Nexiq sells the 6 and 9 pin combo then you have to choose interface works best for you. They offer a few different options

Simply it's to save fuel, prevent idling. Typically daycab city trucks and trucks equipped with an APU
It also keeps city trucks from idling so much it clogs the dpf.

All about saving fuel so trucks don’t idle. This definitely sucks for drivers waiting during the summer months.

Yeah, it's insane that they expect us to rely on the "Optimized Idle" when it's not coming on at 90 degrees. The idle shutdown needs to be done away with already.
How can i set it to 85 degrees, My truck only stays running if it's over 102 degrees outside and shuts off every 20 minutes. The company I work for won't do anything about it. When I use the bunk AC it only lasts for 3 to 3 and half hours. They got the batteries checked, ( I think) but still does last on 3 hours or so. I hate waking up in the middle of the night to keep the truck running to stay cool

Have a vanhool with a dd13 trying to shut off the idle shutdown but when I attempt what you did in the video I don't have a drop down menu with options

I just bought a 2010 volvo d11 and shut off what program I need to do the programming thanks
Volvo uses Premium Tech Tool. But there might be others out there that are more reasonable in price
Try using Nexiq and sometimes your eld has the option to read fault codes

I just bought a freightliner m2 106 26 foot box truck and 2 days after I bring it home I started it up and the idling was high and when I turned onn the cruse control it went down and when I disable the cruse control the idling get high again how do I get that fixed?
After the truck warmed up, did the RPM drop or go lower?
Hey, a question for you, since you know all about this ddl software. Is there a way to disable the horn from honking when you have the brakes released and open your door?

@@willytannenbaum5247 there is a sensor on the driver side. Near the front brake valve. Just open the hood. Should be able to disconnect it.
We have one that right before the 5 Minute mark the check engine light starts flashing and shuts down, is that normal for the check engine light to flash? Thanks for the Great videos
cobravenum yes. It is programmed into the MCM. When it reaches 300 seconds (5 minutes) it will flash the CEL right before it shuts down. Completely normal, this feature can be removed with the program as long as it is not password protected.
Most of them are not password protected.

@@adventuresoftheindian5203 yeah, if the parameter is set on the MCM. Once it reaches the time limit it does set the check engine light to flash. Does freak people out. Happens to me all the time when I am in a truck. Then I realized it was just the normal idle shut down.
Hey bro my 2019 cascadia keeps shutting off even though im doing the idle over write on the dash board after a while it keeps shutting off even though im doing the over right! What can i do ??
Check your settings. The truck can shut down with the truck at idle and also with the RPM bumped up. You have to zero both of them out.

I just bought a Freightliner 2018 from Penske. Idle is not active ( I cant change anything ) Can I do it online by calling Dealer? Do I have to bye anything?
You need the software and have to be manually connected to the truck in order to make changes. Ask for the MCM passwords you might need these in order to make changes if the MCM is password protected

Cummins does sell their software with programming capabilities. But you need to contact them of find an authorized dealer.
Will this be the same on a Cummins mine shuts down after 30 min I had someone disable on the Computer and it had been disable also took the temperature sensor from the driver mirror Ect all the basic stuff Is there another way to do it?
Does this work with PACCAR KW motors and systems?
Unfortunately Paccar has a much stronger hold on parameter changes. To remove this feature, you have to call Paccar and make the request. Once it has been made and approved they have to upload it and then with the Davie 4 software you perform a software update to make this change.
This was my last experience with Paccar. It sucked.
The software used to allow changes without all that.

There could be a parameter that needs to be changed on the gear ratio or the REV (tire size).
This doesnt make much sense to me. Manual says idle shut down will not occur with PTO active. Wouldnt disabling PTO not resolve anything.
Are you talking about the truck manual? If you are talking about the truck manual that is different. The MCM controls the engine. So if the parameter isn’t set correctly then the truck will shut down. Normally you are correct, but that is why you have to change the parameter so the truck will not shut down or will depending on the settings the technician has set.
How do you connect to the truck like this?
I use the DDDL software from that I purchased from Nexiq Diagnostic Link. You will also need the 9-pin connector.

@@ImQ.Official973 annual subscription, for the standard level you are looking at around $800 which can let you do almost everything you need except for updates and some changes but for the most part you can change most parameters. I recommend you look up the software with Nexiq and call them to see which benefits you most.

Does this apply to non California trucks?
Any truck with an ECM has the parameter that can be changed to install or remove this feature.
As long as there is no password then the charge can be made.
BIG QUESTION Pedro... do you know how to change the parameters on the DT12 automatic transmissions attached to a DD15? For example, enabling or disabling Automatic Eco mode, Automatic Performance mode, or Manual mode (as well as disabling RPM shifting limits when on Manual mode)? If so, can you make a video or tell me how much would you would charge to get this changed? Also, can you change the horsepower rating from 455hp to 505hp on a DD15? I've seen DD15's range from 400hp to 505hp from factory. I'm subscribed to your channel by the way... thank you in advance!
Great questions, with the DDDL software you should be able to make changes to the MCM.
Horse power can be changed but only to amounts set be the MCM, for example some DD engines allow HP to be changed while others will only have one HP to choose from.

You will need to use the DDDL software and change the parameter.
It is very quick and easy to do. Just needs to be disabled.
Great carlos. Can yo be more spicific as to the software I need to buy. I went to the link you provided but WHOA they have so many options. I went to a shop to have my idle shut down override but now it shut down every 30 minutes so they did not do it right . 2019 cascadia
I did have something similar happen, the 5 minute shutdown was removed but the truck still shut down after 30 minutes. Not sure if this is a Detroit parameter or a Freightliner parameter.
The software I use is the Detroit Diesel Diagnostic Link that you can purchase through Nexiq. I know there are a few other options available.

I just figured that the shop I took it to didn't do it properly or didn't save changes like you did in your video. I appreciate it very much to help and responses that you gave
@@markhibdon1314 if you just want to change that parameter, then I suggest taking it to the dealer. They charge about 2 hours and you should be set. The software is really good to have but does require an annual subscription of around $800 plus the hardware and laptop but having the software does have its benefits.
So you have to keep that in mind and weigh out your options.

The software is from Detroit Diesel. It can be purchased from Nexiq. There is an audit trail that shows the history of who signed on.
But making changes is no big deal.
The option you might need to look into is optimized idle

The password used to be easy to get by calling Detroit Diesel and providing some information from the truck. Now it requires the truck go to the dealership. They have to call it in and make the request.

For the Detroit platform it is the same. For Cummins it will either have a password or lock on the parameter or no lock
Does it work on paccar engine
Paccar is much more difficult, the shutdown feature is controlled through the computer but in order to remove it has to be done through the dealership. Paccar has to change the parameter directly through their side then the dealership has to update your trucks software in order to remove this feature.

@CarlosDieselElectric as far as I know, they did. I picked up the truck at Exodus truck in dupo, IL and they did it
I'm reaching out to the company I'm buying the truck from to see if they can do anything remotely. It will idle if I leave the brakes off and just use trailer brakes, but it won't Regen like that so I still have to get up a few hours into sleep
Sounds like they may have missed a parameter. Try using the cruise control to bump up the RPM.

How can I reset the password when I change the parameters of shutdown the engine.
If the MCM is password protected, you can try 12345 or 00000. This is the default password, if that does not work then you have to go to Freightliner or an authorized Detroit Diesel location. They have to connect to your truck and call Detroit and request the SEED or back door password. It is free to them but the dealership will charge you for their time.
If any aftermarket app. to reset that password.

Looks like there is a setting in the Parameters, on the CPC that lets you make this change. Use your software to make these changes. Not sure if you need the Pro version

I connect directly to the 9-pin using the laptop then opening the diagnostic link to make the changes. I don’t believe the ELD is necessary.

Juan Romero I recommend replacement of both Inlet and Outlet NOx sensors. You will need the software to run a successful regen in order to clear the code. The system is designed that way.

Yes you can, but that requires using the programming software from Detroit (higher end subscription). Other than that, you can only use the HP changes that Detroit allows, like you mentioned are somewhat adjustable.

If you are talking about after, just hit cancel on the steering wheel or just turn off the ignition.

OTR48C trucker I’ll try. That may require using the OEM software. But I’ll see if my Detroit software will allow me to make those parameter changes
How much you charge to fix this problem?
To make parameter changes (idle shutdown, MPH or cruise control adjustments). The cost is about $80-$100 total. Does not take very long, the only obstacle is if the MCM is password restricted. Then you don’t have a choice but to go to the dealer and have the password removed.

You will need the 9 pin connector with the green plug. The old 9 pin connector will not work because of fitting.

With the software can I bump up the power from 455 to whatever is safe ish
with most Detroit engines you can make this increase. Usually it is 455-475 HP or 455-495 HP. (those are examples) each truck can be a little different. Before you do that, check your RPM restrictions, sometimes you can make the change there and that will help.
Carlos Diesel Electric the truck not restricted, I can rev to whatever I want and drive as fast as 99mph never done any of that stuff I always shift at 1500 but when it come to the hills or mountain baca I know that 10 speed don’t help either...

My trainer had an over ride button.
My peice of junk truck does not.
I dont know how I did it but I stopped it from cutting off earlier.
Theres a autostart/stop button with an A with a circle around it and under the A it says stop.
It makes sense to me that button has somethin to do with it.
I pushed it earlier and it kept the truck running.
But it's not working now.
I am fucking exhausted.
And I'm losing sleep fighting this bullshit.

Does the truck shut down when idle or when the PTO/cruise control bumps up the RPM? After how many minutes does it shut down?

@@draleighd there are 2 settings that need to be checked. One is at idle and the other is at the PTO. Both need to be switched.

@@CarlosDieselElectric also that lane assist that just keeps turning itself on. in my truck it does nothing, just a bright ass light on the dash every time it comes on. Personally owned non commercial truck.
@@nathan00campbell I'm in a 2022 Cascadia and there's a button above the brakes to turn off Lane Keep Assist, but it'll temporarily turn on if the Lane Departure Warning happens.
