    Ann-Margret. She has won five Golden Globe Awards and been nominated for two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and six Emmy Awards, winning in 2010 for a guest role in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.[Wiki]. She was very famous when I was really young, but I guess if she was in L & O SVU, she must have had more recent acclaim, as well. Yes, I agree, she was truly gorgeous. Heck yeah, it's Jack! I told you guys he was in here! But, I get it, you guys are busy and I am wordy, lol. btw, in case you missed it, they are calling him the "New Messiah".

    Jack Nicholson played the doctor who could 'cure' the boy (not kill). He was paid for his services, although he had not cured Tommy. That happened (kind of) when he crashed through the Mirror (a traumatic event canceling out his earlier trauma). His inner block removed, Tommy feels free. Ann-Margret (Tommy's mom) is a well known Swedish-American actress since the 1960's and has won multiple awards. She co-starred with Elvis in 'Viva Las Vegas.' Frank is played by Oliver Reed, an English actor, who's last role was in Gladiator (he died before the release of the movie, which was then dedicated to him). There are a few cameo appearances by Keith Moon (besides being Uncle Ernie). He was the guy who sold Sally Simpson (the fan) her 'Tommy button,' and, earlier in the movie, he was the ticket seller at the Acid Queen's 'place of work.' I have been a big Who fan since I first listened to Tommy, but the movie never did anything for me, apart from a few scenes (Tina Turner's being the most notable). But I'm enjoying your movie reaction (and your discovery of the story).

    Ann-Margret was huge in the 60s. She was in Bye Bye Birdie, Viva Las Vegas with Elvis, The Cincinnati Kid with Steve McQueen. She did some USO tours in Vietnam. IMO Ann-Margret and Raquel Welch were the most beautiful actresses of the late 60s, early 70s.

    AnnMargret used to make studio execs nervous because she rode around on a motorcycle. In the show, THIRD WATCH, they wrote that into her character. She was a judge who rode a Harley.

  • @sigil5772
    @sigil5772 5 месяцев назад +2

    Ann-Margret was like the mid-60s American answer to Brigitte Bardot or Julie Christie (all marketed as cute-kitten kind of starlets, while of course proving themselves later to be far more substantial than their studio images), and she gives like 199% throughout Tommy. It IS Jack, and that's actually a pretty good English accent.
    Tommy could always see himself in the mirror, like his true inner self, and (if you remember) it was that inner self who led him to the pinball machine in the junkyard. When his mother pushes him through the mirror, his traumatised outer self is reintegrated with his inner self, and it frees him.

    Tommy's Deafness and blblindness were psychosomatic. When they killed Tommy's father (on the album Frank was killed by Tommy's father) they were telling him to be quiet about it by telling him he didn't see or hear the killing. So, he one upped them by not seeing or hearing anyone else, thinking they were all evil and only looking in the mirror,, where he saw himself.
    When he was cured , everyone thought it had been a physical malady and he developed a messiah complex. In Sally Simpson's room, she has a black poster of Tommy that looks like the mysterious shroud of Turin, where it's believed to be an image of Christ's face.

    Hey guys, I know you're mainly focusing on the other channel, but I have a couple of recommendations for fantastic rock operas similar to Tommy. "Phantom of the Paradise" is a retelling of the Phantom of the Opera that revolves around an evil record executive with a secret opening a theater. One of the stars is the legendary Paul Williams (Rainy Days And Mondays, Rainbow Connection, Old Fashioned Love Song, Family of Man, etc). Another is a favorite of mine, Jesus Christ Superstar (the 1970's one). It's full of fantastic songs and was adapted from the stage play by Andrew Lloyd Weber. It has some of the most amazing vocal performances you'll hear and is a rock opera retelling of the last days of Jesus from entering Jerusalem up to the Crucifixion. I think you guys will love both of them if you put them on the list. As always, thanks for the free content you guys are so gracious to provide. Rock on!

    The baked beans refer back to the The Who's "Sell Out" LP. It is a concept LP that recreates an afternoon of listening to the radio, with ads (that they wrote) between the songs. One of the ads is for Heinz Baked Beans. Roger Daltrey is shown on the cover sitting in a bathtub of baked beans. The last song on that LP is "Rael", the story of Tommy's dad going off to war, with musical sections later reflected on the Tommy LP. Jack Nicholson and Tina Turner steal this movie.

    I'm enjoying watching this with you guys, it's been a long time since I've seen it. I personally have a love/hate relationship with this movie. Director Ken Russell changed a lot of things from the original, and his wild style really sets an 'over the top' kind of tone for the movie. Parts of it work, parts of it I can't stand. Oliver Reed's (Frank) 'singing' if you want to call it that is awful, Jack Nicolson's isn't much better. Ann-Margret is a wonderful, beautiful talent, but her singing style doesn't seem to really be 'rock'.
    "Tommy" has been done many ways, besides the film it was a successful musical on Broadway. It was done as a symphonic album. The Who toured and played it in the 70's, and have resurrected it many times. To me, the best way to enjoy it is to just listen to them do it live. Don't worry about the story so much, just listen and rock out. Here's a version from 1989 you might like: ruclips.net/video/dX0fOyoyOlE/видео.html

    Tbh, overall it’s a shit movie. I loved Elton’s version of Pinball Wizard tho.

    The music in Tommy is fantastic. The story? Straight stupid. Pretentious nonsense.
