Oh I keep forgetting to finish that video series! I saw the first one in theaters and then got distracted with college and never finished. Thank you for reminding me, also for the added incentive of possibly being emotionally destroyed lol
The Shrek scene was too well fitting for a Shrek meme Also, I love the subtle colors of the rainbow in your books in the background, they look really aesthetically pleasing
Cloud Kitten Chronicles I have to agree. Even though I haven’t published any books yet, I’ve let my friends read some of my work and drinking their tears has got to be the most satisfying thing in the world. 😅
I will admit... there was one scene in Aletheia that made teary eyed... and yeah there was so many layers! It was chapter 47... ahhh!!! And I never get teary eyed so yeah... Pfftt I guess you know what you're talking about... whatever. The crying cats XD Pixar shorts are brutal! The cowboy one was so dark! Also, the Disney short The Little Matchgirl is heartbreaking... DX I need to rewatch the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy. I think layering was a good point that I never thought of before and a unique take! Thanks for the tips!
Chapter 47 for the win. Some people got hit by chapter 44, but no where near as many. At the time I didn't understand why. Now I think layers and character attachment due to screen time were the biggest factors. Plus chap 47 happens right after a bunch of other intense stuff so people are pre-worked up when they walk in. I find it all so fascinating. Pixar is the master of making people cry in a short amount of time. In my research for this I found they do have a bit of a formula. Might do a video on that some day. I need to watch more of their normal shorts (I tend to click the SparkShorts more often because they always look so unique). Ahhh thank you for the comment
I always tear up when I think of the loyalty of dogs. Stories of dogs waiting for their master to return seem the most poignant. I recall a dog who wouldn't leave their master's grave... Heartrending.
Ok, if you want to write something sad just go over ideas in your head until your bawling like a baby. I'm writing a horror fantasy book and I feel like even if it does have the horror element every death should be not just scary but sad.
❤️This is hands down the best video out there on tears. It has so much work behind it with scenes cut and made from many films with their respective headings. It would be impossible to compete with provided you break down the 'overwhleming' emotions in each emotion that makes us cry.
you can't make everyone cry , for exemple i watched all the sad movies , animes , etc and yes i felt a litlle sad but never cryed , but i still enjoied the moments .
I absolutely love writing. I've been doing it for thirteen years, maybe more, and I have finally gotten to capture emotions in my writing: to have my audience sad, experience emotions that the writing brings. It has truly been the amazing journey.:)
It's my absolute favorite part of writing outside of worldbuilding. My motivation dropped significantly when I stopped getting reviews and got further out from the beta process. Thank you for this comment and reminding me of that spark.
I am happy to hear I succeeded in overwhelming you a little. Not going to lie, while editing the video I teared up every time I hit the HTTYD clip and the Scrubs one, and let me tell you, while editing I watch the video a LOT of times. Thank you for the nice comment!
If you like anime and have watched violet evergarden, you will find that most of these points are used in some way or the other in the 13 episode series....
"In reality we're just watching Try-not-to-cry challenges on RUclips because we're stressed about the current state of society." This is the first video I've watched of yours but why you gotta come at me like that?? (your vid is really helpful btw)
One you didn't mention: a VOW. I don't know if it's just me (because I don't promise lightly) or if it's true of others, but a vow is emotionally powerful. A good example is in Galaxy Quest when "Dr. Lazarus" vows to Quellek, "By Grabthar's hammer; by the Sons of Worvan, you shall be avenged." Every other time it's spoken, a running joke, which supercharges this one instance. Or for a superb example of ALL of these points, read "Flowers for Algernon" by Daniel Keyes. When you get to the vow... the last line of the book... I promise you will find tears beyond any you thought your body could contain. To me, this is a perfect way to end the novel, as it carries the story forward beyond the final pages of the book.

Allow me to give my take from the vid. The secret to make a reader ball the fuck out of their eyes is to..... hit a chord in their brain that calls back to their past experiences. Loss, anxiety or anything else cited in the vid absolutely works because everyone experiences them to some degree. This can be made when you simply make them care for the story, setting or themes enough and them run them over with a truck of layers, or just run them over FASTER by calling back to an experience the reader already lived through themselves. But this one is much more personal and target audience dependent, but FUCK ME its effective and you don't even need to spend so much on character development to destroy someone's hydration. Personal example: Ranking of Kings. I'm phisically disabled, very much like Bojji. Episode two FORCED me to stop, go to bed and cry for (I kid you not) a full hour and took me an entire week to get over it. EPISODE. TWO.

Sorry. i really like your channel. But are you really sayin that animals don't have feeling and with that their tears are just mechanical response of the body? Not cool
Animals 100% have feelings and emotions, and I'm definitely not saying otherwise. What I said was that many scientists think emotional tears are exclusive to humans, but that doesn't in any way mean animals don't feel sadness. They just didn't evolve to express those feelings via tears in the way humans do. Most animals don't smile because they didn't evolve those muscles to work in that way, but that doesn't mean they don't feel happiness. Same thing with tears. When cats are content they purr, humans don't purr but that doesn't mean we don't experience contentment. Emotional responses are incredibly species specific and tears just happen to be a response that many scientists agree is not observed in other animals. I have 2 cats and 1 dog and believe me, there are days when they're more emotional than I am.
What story has emotionally impacted you the most?
Definitely the Hobbit... No spoilers but the three characters died at the end had me sobbing in my room fo a good long while.
