    As an American fan, it is embarrasing to hear someone high up the ranks made such an ignorant statement about the great Ayrton. I watched that fatal race in May '94 live on TV, and it was such a dark sad day in racing. However, drives such as the Monaco quali or the championship battles with Alain and Michael will always be in my memory. We know and care about Ayrton in the U.S.

    CVT was designed by DAF and tested on some different cars in I think F2 or F3. They even won some races. The major problem was the weight, the strange thing was when it was driving you heard the full rev all the time, because it always going for the perfect “gear” you could just keep it floored.
    The DAF CVT did well in the Netherlands, until the company was sold to Volvo, but the CVT was sold to Toyota. This is in base still the same CVT DAF designed is what they use now in hybrids.
    Funny fact: in the 80’s we had races in the Netherlands, in reverse! The old DAFs 55/66 with the CVT were the fastest because in reverse they were as fast as in drive. Those cars are legends in the Netherlands!

    Regarding Lewis and Russell, I think that there was so much uncertainty regarding Lewis after Abu Dabhi 2021. What if they had retained Bottas, and Hamilton retired? That would have been a lot more disastrous than what is happening now. In retrospect, I'm sure Toto would have given Russell the contract anyway. If Mercedes had been as good as everyone thought they were going to be in 2022, and Lewis had gotten his 8th, he likely would have retired. No one expected Mercedes to be third in the constructors' championship. Lewis can say whatever he wants about still loving racing; the bottom line is that if he doesn't win his 8th by the end of his contract, he'll choose to move on.

      Mercedes being as arrogant as they are thought Ham would win his 8th in 2021, so George was to come in and be the future when Ham retires at he end of 2022 after a year of mentoring. But Ham is greedy and wants the 8th so is sticking around longer than Toto and George thought he would. Toto could hardly say no to extending his contract and he can't tell George (the future) not to race

    Very philosophical in the end, who decides what is interesting. I must say I do have a fun time now as a Dutch guy watching F1 but already watching for a long time, saw the terrible accident with Senna live... so much going on with technique and crazy races. F1 now boring? A lot is happening behind Max and he is not totally dominant. And I never complained about boring when Mercedes won a lot of races in the season and Hamilton was WDC way before the last race of the year. He was just smarter then with not expanding the gap to the second driver more as 2 seconds .. so it seemed closer racing but in reality if the second car would be faster one round round, he would increase his speed a bit. He was just preserving his tires and most of the time Bottas was second so no competition.. It was a long talk but very interesting, I do like the channel with some reminiscing about the past, and good info about the present

    • @Enzoblueblood
      @Enzoblueblood Год назад

      Interesting point. I think some champion drivers are happiest when they totally crush the competition. Senna, Schumacher, Vettel and I see similar trait in Max.
      If he wasn’t destroying the competition in races, Schumacher computed that as less than perfect.
      Other champions like Prost, Mika, Alonso, Hamilton seem to really thrive under the pressure of just doing enough to win.
      Agree, love it when he tells f1 stories from the past.

      Prost is criminally underrated. A majority of team bosses in a poll a few years ago said they would choose Prost ahead of Senna.
      Piquet’s first 2 titles were somewhat tainted. Bernie Ecclestone was his team boss at Brabham. Lots written about how they won by bending the rules.
      Peter’s close friend, Carlos Reutemann was in 1981 end of season title decider against Piquet which Piquet won under suspicious circumstances.
      Nelson and Bernie are close pals till this day. That’s why Bernie defended Nelson over the comments that got him banned.

    With longer and longer contracts, it probably gets harder to balance a team's drivers. Wolff had to think of life post Hamilton, he needed to line up the next team leader. He probably didn't expect Hamilton to be around for as long as he has been. I think there'd be a lot to be said for contracts to be a maximum of one year, it would promote interchange, but wouldn't stop partnerships staying together if they wanted to. Same with engineers, actually. I believe Stewart and Tyrrell never had a written contract - they had faith in each other.

As for DRS if thats to go then at least force the teams to use all 3 compound s during the main race, these drivers are the best and shouldn't be shelted from using the hardest compound to use for that weekend. 3 practice sessions is only good for helping the big teams when they don't get the setup right on Fridays, and if you want to continue to complain then make the only practice session 90 minutes.

      In which sense is he overrated?
      I personally never heard someone saying he is better than Max or Lewis, i only heard people saying that he is a great driver that would win many races in a good car, which is true.

    I really like your content Peter, let me start there.
    That being said, what an awful take at the beginning of the video. Saying that Lance Stroll assaulting an Aston Martin team member is fine. You make yourself look like an absolute dinosaur.
    In no professional setting is it acceptable to assault your colleagues, period.

    • @Lewythefly
      @Lewythefly Год назад +2

      It wasn't assault. The trainer got in his face first, grabbed his arm and even jostled for position in front of him as they went through the door at the back of the garage. Stop being Karen's expecting everyone to lose their job over nothing

      If you understood the situation, Lance needed to exit via the front of the garage to be weighed, which his trainer repeatedly tried to inform him.
