CVT was designed by DAF and tested on some different cars in I think F2 or F3. They even won some races. The major problem was the weight, the strange thing was when it was driving you heard the full rev all the time, because it always going for the perfect “gear” you could just keep it floored. The DAF CVT did well in the Netherlands, until the company was sold to Volvo, but the CVT was sold to Toyota. This is in base still the same CVT DAF designed is what they use now in hybrids. Funny fact: in the 80’s we had races in the Netherlands, in reverse! The old DAFs 55/66 with the CVT were the fastest because in reverse they were as fast as in drive. Regarding Lewis and Russell, I think that there was so much uncertainty regarding Lewis after Abu Dabhi 2021. What if they had retained Bottas, and Hamilton retired? That would have been a lot more disastrous than what is happening now. In retrospect, I'm sure Toto would have given Russell the contract anyway. If Mercedes had been as good as everyone thought they were going to be in 2022, and Lewis had gotten his 8th, he likely would have retired. No one expected Mercedes to be third in the constructors' championship. Lewis can say whatever he wants about still loving racing; the bottom line is that if he doesn't win his 8th by the end of his contract, he'll choose to move on.
Mercedes being as arrogant as they are thought Ham would win his 8th in 2021, so George was to come in and be the future when Ham retires at he end of 2022 after a year of mentoring. But Ham is greedy and wants the 8th so is sticking around longer than Toto and George thought he would. Toto could hardly say no to extending his contract and he can't tell George (the future) not to race
Same people who say alpine mishandled piastri or why kimi antoli should be given a Mercedes seat right away, would turn around and ask why Mercedes hired George. Very philosophical in the end, who decides what is interesting. I must say I do have a fun time now as a Dutch guy watching F1 but already watching for a long time, saw the terrible accident with Senna live... so much going on with technique and crazy races. F1 now boring? A lot is happening behind Max and he is not totally dominant. And I never complained about boring when Mercedes won a lot of races in the season and Hamilton was WDC way before the last race of the year. He was just smarter then with not expanding the gap to the second driver more as 2 seconds .. so it seemed closer racing but in reality if the second car would be faster one round round, he would increase his speed a bit. He was just preserving his tires and most of the time Bottas was second so no competition.. It was a long talk but very interesting, I do like the channel with some reminiscing about the past, and good info about the present
Interesting point. I think some champion drivers are happiest when they totally crush the competition. Senna, Schumacher, Vettel and I see similar trait in Max. If he wasn’t destroying the competition in races, Schumacher computed that as less than perfect. Other champions like Prost, Mika, Alonso, Hamilton seem to really thrive under the pressure of just doing enough to win. Agree, love it when he tells f1 stories from the past.

So basically it’s 30 seconds to say “Max will win again” then the rest of the 2 1/2 hours reminiscing on the old days…
And probably the most insight you'll find anywhere, period.
And the insight he brings are bloody brilliant, because it opens to you many paths to take and many stories to discover, not to mention it makes you reflect about some things and how bad some decisions are retrospectively.
ive got no issue with Lances push - coz the physio walked into his path. Id love Lance to retire and become team principal. Having a gen z as team principal would be amazing.
Yeah. You all think you should get everything plopped in your lap for showing up.
Apparently, his physio was stating that he should've go weighed, which Lance didn't do.
nelson p. k not on list
was Michael aa much as a 'I am ......!!!'
As Sir Hamilton?
he just seems to be pushing his situation bit too far.
I have only Brady to compare to but seems H thinks acts like he is Gods gift....
Can someone explain to me why Ricciardo is entitled to go to RB?! He did not have a good result in 3 years…. 😅, is it the smiling and laughing for nothing? It doesn’t win races…
This is just a lando slander account at this point. The bias towards piastri tho😂😂
Lando is overrated, he's feeling the heat from a rookie after 99races in f1 he's at his ceiling
@@Lewythefly
In which sense is he overrated?
I personally never heard someone saying he is better than Max or Lewis, i only heard people saying that he is a great driver that would win many races in a good car, which is true.
Lando is great! (Oscar might be greater) it happens.
They are at a crossroad and they are going to take the wrong road.
Doesn't any one remember max beating up on Esteban Ocon...
F1 is so damn bias at times
And he got punished for it. Your point?
So are you it seems. He never beat up Ocon. He pushed him.
Did he hurt you feelings?
ocon deserved it after that move 😆
He had a fine + forced work.
Hello gorgeous, from Australia.... who's going to be outstanding this weekend. I am a girl.
Wtf is this comment?
I really like your content Peter, let me start there.
That being said, what an awful take at the beginning of the video. Saying that Lance Stroll assaulting an Aston Martin team member is fine. You make yourself look like an absolute dinosaur.
In no professional setting is it acceptable to assault your colleagues, period.
It wasn't assault. The trainer got in his face first, grabbed his arm and even jostled for position in front of him as they went through the door at the back of the garage. Stop being Karen's expecting everyone to lose their job over nothing
@@Lewythefly
If you understood the situation, Lance needed to exit via the front of the garage to be weighed, which his trainer repeatedly tried to inform him.
It’s not Karening, assault in the workplace is not okay, even in sporting organizations.
@@thecanuc8587 I understand the situation perfectly, I've been watching f1for decades. Doesn't mean the trainer should act the way he did. Let lance cool down first before getting your hands on him
@@Lewythefly
Let lance cool down? He’s a professional athlete, not a school child. He should act like the former not the later.
@@thecanuc8587 ever competed in a high stress environment? You couldn't have with a comment like that. Sometimes people need some space, even the best of the best. You are being a major Karen
The push looked pretty disrespectful to me watching it live at the time. Like a spoilt brat. Maybe I’m wrong.
Gee Pete I'm down for history, but that's only if that's what I'm seeking. And I'm not.
Cmon mate 37:51 in and barely spoken about COTA 23.
You've got 5 minutes Pete.
Edit:
Yeh nothing really about COTA 23. 1:14:20
Get over it, this is great content, no matter the subject. When the on track action starts Peter will give his analysis then. Don't be so rude.
@Lewythefly No, you don't be so rude, pal. I get it, alright. Petes' content is good ,this was just my second time tuning in, and I didn't realise it was structured this way. Now, expressing my opinion is far cry being rude. Unlike yourself. It's like you only wanna hear things that suit you and your narrative. Well sorry pal I'll say what I want, and thanks for your concern. Hahaha, as you'd be concerned. Get a life, bro
So in only your second time tuning in you have the nerve to carry on the way you are? Like I said, rude! Probably American? Wait til the weekend when he does his analysis videos of qualifying, sprint race and the GP.
@@Lewythefly haha I'm still in your head 😄 🤣
Yeah! Lance Zstroll has apologised but did NO5 realy mean it ! I mean , why take his frustration out on anybody ! His Physio should have retaliated and Decked the smart Arsed little spoiled Brat !
Lance was retaliating to his trainer getting in his face, grabbing his arm and jostling for position in front of him as he walked through the door at the back of the garage. Stop being a Karen
@@Lewythefly
I mean, when you're a bad performer, you need to take it, don't you?
Once again, Windsor going for Hamilton's throat, justifying the racism
Sorry? What racism?
Boy, listen good, I only say this once…..
Say of the drugs!
Only racist people see racism on F1. Stop playing the victim card.
