Oh Dear, It's Gear 14: A tour of what I laughingly call a "Studio"

  • Well, I have almost gotten sound figured out, the next challenge is making the video from my two cameras look alike. The older VG10 gives a somewhat cool muted effect while the NEX 5N is warm and punchy. I have two purposes with my videos, the first is the enjoyment of presenting to an audience (40 years of teaching is hard to give up cold turkey), and the second is learning (for its own sake). Matching the two video sources is my next learning experience. As well as failing the "whack-a-mole" product test, the VG10 also shows moire on the fabric of my shirt. I will just have to be more careful with my wardrobe since this camera is ideal to just leave set up. Every gear video is indeed another experiment. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Much the same reason I watch your videos.

Colour grading is not something I will be getting into but some tweaking of exposure and white balance may get these cameras more in sync visually.

Is it difficult to edit with two cameras? I always wondered how that worked

Syncing the two was easy, I just clapped my hands loudly at the beginning and used that sound spike to line up the two main videos. I am using an old Premiere Elements from 2015 which works fine for my 1080p video. The problem right now is getting the two cameras to the same "look". It isnt simple but with a little practice it isn't very difficult.

@@acrummey85I'm not sure but could something like a colour checker passport work for getting them to look the same?

@@AbbasBinYounas yes I would think it could work. My problem is more related to my very limited video skills. Even if I had the colour checker I don’t have the knowledge (or the software) to get it right. I think I did get closer in the next video.

@@acrummey85 regardless of the grading, we come here for the laid back, genuine and very relatable content and we're never disappointed mr. c. Thanks for the work and thought you put into your videos.
