honey, Imma have to stop you right there. Okay, I was accepting your points thus far because they were correct. First of all, Jessica's voice might not be to your liking, but technique wise, she is the second best in SNSD. Taeyeon and Jessica have always shared a big role as main vocalists, only recently has she lost some space and Tiffany and Seohyun have gotten more. Now, before you call her annoying and nasal, I'll have you know both Tiffany and Seohyun are also very nasal, so please. stop.
It depends cuz some people can yell and it sound high like a whistle but technically it's not at all lol it's just a very very high pitched scream, you can still hit a whistle without proper technique but a yell and a controlled whistle are different that's from what I understand my mom telling me about it she may be able to scream high but she may not be able to hit the actually note there's some things you can do yelling but not singing I guess but who knows she may be able to
cierra universe Only people who have a whistle register can hit them (Red Velvet Wendy has a whistle register). Idk if Jessica has a whistle register but if she doesnt then she might be able to do super head voice (very high falsetto almost mistaken for whistle tones). People always thought Christina Aguilera had a whistle register but it turned out that she's just using super head voice (she doesn't have a whistle register at all).
I thing we should stop drag TTS on every discussion about Jessica or Sunny's vocal. They both have wide vocal range, great falsetto, vibrato voice, can riff 'n' run ... They can make a great duet or a great trio with Sooyoung.. They can shine on a whole different league than TTS, they can focus on jazz (Sica will love it), trot (Sunny, Sooyoung have intermediate to advanced trot technique), R'n'B ... while TTS focused of ballad and dance pop. HYY will focus on rap and hip-hop, perfect division!
Uh no no Jessica is quite considerably behind Taeyeon in terms of vocal skill. She's not bad, but there's a clear technical difference between both Taeyeon and Jessica and it's lack of skill on Jessica's side.
Actually, Jessica's voice blends with Taeyeon's /much/ better than Tiffany's does, just compare any of her duet covers with Taeyeon to Lost In Love. Seohyun's really versatile and blends with Taeyeon well too, so they would've done really well together too.
Even jessica more blend, or seohyun does better, their duet have other tone, and ussually have different audience. That's the point that you never wanna know so you always "jessica amd seohyun better than tiffany" 😂
@SMAnthonyW I would say the A5 would be very pushed, but G#5, I agree I think girls can just practice their whistle register, Jessica can just learn to control it... I hope she will belt more, she has potential to be a great diva belter
Do you guys think that she can do whistle notes? I think she can, well judging by her dolphin scream. Just a thought. I may be wrong, pretty sure i'm 90% wrong, hahaha
i think with confidence, rest, and more practice, she could hit G5 or dare i say, even G#5 or A5. if her screams can reach G#7... that means her chest voice can go that much higher as well. i hope jessi can hit a G5 in the future! i'll be really happy.
She goes "The secret LOOOOOONGING" at like 1:15 or 1:25 or smth and at the end, when the key changes, she goes into head voice in "Is too extreme" and there she hits Eb5
MrTrafficcones kpopvocalanalysis.wordpress.com/2014/06/17/snsd-jessica-vocal-analysis-re-written/ some examples of opened ones are in the comments here, others im not sure where. A Bb4, some C#5 from Run Devil Run
taeyeon and jessica are parallel..in the same page when it comes to different techniques..only difference is, taeyeon's voice is more universal, jessica only fits certain songs..thats why taeyeon is the main vocalist.. but mainly..both of their voices are blended in the main chorus/background/support for their songs.. -.-
Uhm, they're both main vocals though. Also please stop butting Taeyeon's name. I know it's hard not to compare them but both are vocalists in their own right. We'll appreciate it if you stop these comparisons which can trigger heated arguments.
I was underestimating Jessica's contribution to SNSD songs... She is actually singing many and many high and difficult parts even in "simple" songs. Thanks for the video, now I realise why she's usually considered to be one of the two strongest vocals in the group.
Only One For Me of JeTi is amazing too. Jessica's voice is powerful but is too thin and her voice is rare for me.I love it and I appreciate it A LOT. Unstoppable Tears, Sweet Delight, Someday, My Lifestyle, and more.
Thank you , I love this girls range and she has a nice head voice and falsetto, If she continues to work hard, she can get a whistle. I honestly think sica vocal is the best in snsd.
@The131807 it's really low bcuz the recording is low, it's from counting kisses with you, if you turn it up you can hear her voice in that song, and if you still can't hear, you can search it here on youtube, it's during the verse
Ah okay. No problem. Although it's not in the video we still know it exist. But great job on the video. And you're right about Jessica not getting a lot of high notes to sing. She's an amazing vocalist I don't know why SM wouldn't utilise it.
You're absolutely right. But it was still great to see them perform old songs and still sing with so much ease. Especially with all of their Japanese releases, TaeSic ad-libs for days.
actually, define pop, because I see pop singers venturing into many genres, like R&B, Soul, Pop, Ballad, Pop-Rock and such, so they do need quite some vocals, Jessica has a D3 to F#5 full voice vocal range, many singers don't have such vocals, she can't go up to an A5 in mix, but she can use her head voice up to D6, if she ventured into singing more of her Tamia stuff, she could show us her full voice, she doesn't like range, she lacks confidence more than anything :3
Agreed, and they are like pupils learning to be just like their older senior singers, so basically, in some years, these idol singers will be just as good, but of course an older singer is always thought to be better and more experienced! :3
I love powerful mix notes, but a nice head voice note would always be nice too, like a nice higher controlled, crystal clear like Beyonce's in Emotions or SunYe's in When You Believe Oh yes, I love Sunny's D6 too, she hit i very clearly
adlibs, yes, Jonghyun does meslimas sometimes, but that's more common for R&B/Soul groups like Brown Eyed Soul, Brown Eyes, even Brown Eyed Girls and Eye To Eye
I said SM ranked them this way in singing category: 1- Taeyeon 2- Jessica 3- Seohyun 4- Fany ... and that's why I said I don't care about their ranking when it comes to my personal opinion.
oh lol k then, but yeah sometimes I wish they'd hit more head voice notes, but to think of it I couldn't think of a context where singing a high note would be applied, so I don't even know what songs would be appropriate for it
Uh. It's called that because it's a semi-vocal group based on popularity more so than ability. Tiffany strains her ass off after B4 whereas Jessica only really is tense on D5's and above. Jessica has more pitch control and breath support. However so, her voice is just not very liked and hence she isn't popular. Taeny being a more popular duo makes them a safer bet than Jessica. Do you happen to know the songs Mabinogi and Oppa Nappa? They are JeTiSeo songs. :3
I agree. But not even Seohyun. I feel like SM is making SNSD all Taeny nowadays. And even though I love all the girls equally, Taeny has been getting too much shine... nowadays songs with Jessica, Sunny, or even Seohyun in the spotlight in terms of vocals is rare. It's quite disappointing because I love their voices as well.
@pretendtosmile1 yes, Sunny sang Lena Park's I'll Write A Letter, she hit C#6 and she also sang a G6 during All I Want For Christmas Is You...so surely, they r the highest vocalists in SNSD ^ ^
Oh sorry, not only SM, anybody with musical knowledge knows Jessica is a better vocalist, with better technique, liking the sound of someone's voice is merely personal taste and does not come into question. So as you said personal ranking and you can love their voice, but can't deny their faults :3
@eternalsilverlight yeah you are right tho, and I agree, I think it's relevant bcuz Jessica could have a whistle or a modal voice high G#7 but yeah, it was a scream and it was a note, so i counted it lol
I'm not sure what kinda piano we're talking about but as far as I know, a Piano's range is 7 octaves, from A0 to C8 and that's it... and well, a very well done whistle register can go higher than C8 if you do look it up, some singers have done it, it's not like pretty.... but it's doable
@assymessy erm, it's hard to say. She barely ever uses her head voice to go high and her head voice isn't exactly strong, I'd say Taeyeon's head voice is brighter and more well controlled. I wouldn't say she is better, she is just one of the best, I mean, Yeeun and Sunye of the wonder girls are also amazing vocalists with stable strong ranges. Every main vocalist in an idol group, except 4minute, is great. Range doesn't mean everything
I see, I see, I see, I'm learning so much ^.^ Yeah, I feel like SeoHyun would be expand her range, TaeYeon..I don't know she seems like she has potential..but Tiffany yeah she is at her end. But range does not make a singer right ?
i think Tiffany was chosen bc she has more power behind her voice when singing in her lower register. where as jessica has more power in her higher register. so, having 3 singers like tea, sica, and seohyun, would be like haveing 3 singers that basically sound the same. I think tiffany lower register and full sound give a dynamic to a group of soft voices. most background vocals are performed by tiffany and tae and not sica. so maybe tiff provides better bckgrnd vocals and sica is a better lead.
LOL i just realized G#7 is insanely high o_o thats like... around the top of mariah carey's whistle register i think... o_o now, if only jessica was trained in whistle register.. that would be really impressive! i hope she tries it out! :D
When Fany belts it's tight throated, pushed and without power, it's just loud without support. When Sica belts it is tight throated and without power as well, but it's more stable than Fany who pushes to much.
oooo thanks for the info hehe. Jessica's my ultimate bias, so... yep :3 I'm trying to practice whistle register too, but I don't know if I'm just screaming o_o
I personally don't agree with the whole classification of pop singers since I'm not a classical singer and neither are they. I would say she is more like a mezzo to me. If you search it up, Sunny sings "I'll Write You A Letter" and she sings C#6 there, in another video, I forgot what song, she sings C#6 too, and in All I Want For Christmas Is You with Tiffany, she sings a not so well sustained G6
Uhm she used a very tense head voice to hit a C#6 in that song, which I includes in my vocal range video for sunny :3 so no she has never hit a whistle note
@assymessy Definitely Jessica, even though I'm biased. Park Bom has very bad technique, Jessica has a wider range and better control of her voice, switching registers, maintaining tone, control...
Actually, Jessica has hit F#5 in two SNSD songs, as you see in this video and G5 in a to-be-released OST song with Kris and Krystal, but nothing above that
Oh, I usually only make videos for singers who haven't had their ranges covered, there is a video for IU out there, and it's pretty much all Ik of her range too, I dunno bout her singing higher notes or lower....but I'll do a complete one! :3
wow.. i love jessica various vocal, and i think its high then taeyeon or the rest member in snsd.. and her coach was said her vocal actually can reach high then piano.. but i can't imagine if sica singing with (G#6).. maybe its first time the microfon and speaker be broken..he..he.. that is our princess..jessica..
isn't it annoying how people say jessica sounds nasal when Tiffany, Seohyun and Sunny are also nasal when they belt? Like, it's more of jessica's voice quality in that case....cuz when they belt, they place the voice wrong...
@Adjanielf Oh tnx, that's what I wanted, an actual alto, I mean, an alto has like, a lot more vocal weight, I mean, Beyonce can sing Bb2, but she is not heavy or bright in her lower lower register as an alto would be, and same goes for both Taeyeon and Seohyun
@AzureSteel oh it's on youtube, it's a cut from shimshim tapa, with shindong! ^ ^ im pretty sure if she practices, she could get that high with a singing quality, i mean, she held that scream for how long? lol
yea i saw someone comment on a twinkle video claiming that they were the best three in terms of vocal range ...but i had seen somewhere that had said jessica was also a main vocal aswell?
Of course I will! ^ ^ She's on my to do list, but she has to show more range before I do, I mean if I didn't wait for Hyorin to sing G#6 and Eb6 Id' have to have redone this video.. if I did it before, so.
maybe in the future, if you search there's a video for her vocal showcase for Sway where it shows the notes she sings there... u could ask a friend of mine, viettien, he could make the video ^ ^ ..maybe
Your ranking is the same as mine...oh my god...I just want to throw myself out a window when people say Tiffany is better than Jessica...I really do...SeoHyun...ehhh...I believe Jessica is better but some people can put a fight when they believe SeoHyun is better..
@ngoclinh1093 I'm sorry but what? Taeyeon's vocal range in chest voice only, as u check in her video, is from D3 to an F5 and her F5 isn't too strong, whereas Jessica goes from D3 to F#5, Jessica can extend up to D6 in head voice n Taeyeon can go 2 Bb5, which is fine for, but Taeyeon uses her head voice to sing higher a lot more than Jessica, it was very heard to find a note higher than F#5 in head voice for Jessica, Taeyeon's range is 2 and 4 full notes with head, Jessica is 3 with head as well
if SMTOWN already form sub-unit TTS, i hope also they will reform another sub unit that the member is sica and sunny + any member.. it's bcoz both of them has similar vocal and range, sica can be lead the sub-group since she is main vocalist..
I think Tiffany has much more soul with singing, and she can sing in her comfort zone pretty well too, maybe it's just a preference, I just like it how her voice sounds with songs
honey, Imma have to stop you right there. Okay, I was accepting your points thus far because they were correct. First of all, Jessica's voice might not be to your liking, but technique wise, she is the second best in SNSD. Now, before you call her annoying and nasal, I'll have you know both Tiffany and Seohyun are also very nasal, so please. stop.
The highest note is her dolphin scream lol
I always wanted to comment on this video! Jessica´s voice is my personal heaven. Thank you for you hard work.
Does anyone think Sica can do whistle notes?
Yes
It depends cuz some people can yell and it sound high like a whistle but technically it's not at all lol it's just a very very high pitched scream, you can still hit a whistle without proper technique but a yell and a controlled whistle are different that's from what I understand my mom telling me about it she may be able to scream high but she may not be able to hit the actually note there's some things you can do yelling but not singing I guess but who knows she may be able to

She's too unmotivated to do.

Jessica falsetto, and higher range is so beautiful to me. The light soft tone of it really gives off an angelic feel.
Actually, Jessica's voice blends with Taeyeon's /much/ better than Tiffany's does, just compare any of her duet covers with Taeyeon to Lost In Love. Seohyun's really versatile and blends with Taeyeon well too, so they would've done really well together too.

I think girls can just practice their whistle register, Jessica can just learn to control it...
I hope she will belt more, she has potential to be a great diva belter
Wishing that G#7 will be part of her range...
That's a whistle register note....
her voice make me smile and cry...I think she há angel voice...Love SICA
i love jessica's lower ranges like in day by day and mabinogi ..it sounds good and like angelic voice..
Do you guys think that she can do whistle notes? I think she can, well judging by her dolphin scream. Just a thought. I may be wrong, pretty sure i'm 90% wrong, hahaha
Totally! I just haven't seen her try lol
I think she can if jessica want to learn
i think with confidence, rest, and more practice, she could hit G5 or dare i say, even G#5 or A5.
if her screams can reach G#7... that means her chest voice can go that much higher as well.
i hope jessi can hit a G5 in the future! i'll be really happy.
She achieved G5
She goes "The secret LOOOOOONGING" at like 1:15 or 1:25 or smth and at the end, when the key changes, she goes into head voice in "Is too extreme" and there she hits Eb5
Sica rarely has lines now than before i wonder what happened. I love sicas voice 사랑해 체시카 hwaiting!
Hey have you heard that Jessica has achieved resonance and some opened notes?
Yes I did ^ ^
what notes? where? O.o can you link me to the perf?
MrTrafficcones kpopvocalanalysis.wordpress.com/2014/06/17/snsd-jessica-vocal-analysis-re-written/ some examples of opened ones are in the comments here, others im not sure where. A Bb4, some C#5 from Run Devil Run
She recently had a G5 from Dangerous Woman
taeyeon and jessica are parallel..in the same page when it comes to different techniques..only difference is, taeyeon's voice is more universal, jessica only fits certain songs..thats why taeyeon is the main vocalist.. but mainly..both of their voices are blended in the main chorus/background/support for their songs.. -.-

Don't compare jessica and taeyeon they both are great and they are main vocalist in snsd
Sorry for my bad english
I was underestimating Jessica's contribution to SNSD songs... She is actually singing many and many high and difficult parts even in "simple" songs.
Thanks for the video, now I realise why she's usually considered to be one of the two strongest vocals in the group.
Jessica is the best !
I'm actually surprised that you didn't add her high note from Oscar! It was fantastic there. Her note in Kissing You is one of my favourite ones :D
Her voice's so sweet
Actually jessica and taeyeon is main vocalist
Only One For Me of JeTi is amazing too. Jessica's voice is powerful but is too thin and her voice is rare for me.I love it and I appreciate it A LOT. Unstoppable Tears, Sweet Delight, Someday, My Lifestyle, and more.
even tough she doesnt has many line like before, i still love her the most in snsd cause i know she has great vocal

YES !! THANK YOU !! Someone else agrees. There is a fine line between a loud voice and a powerful voice.
Enjoyed the video. Love how you included her dolphin scream.
Just curious. Why didn't use the high note from Oscar? It's one of my absolute favourites and one of the best (my opinion).
Rainier Surratt I totally forgot about it, back then I was lazier with these videos so I didn't listen to every single song.. lol
Ah okay. No problem. Although it's not in the video we still know it exist. But great job on the video. And you're right about Jessica not getting a lot of high notes to sing. She's an amazing vocalist I don't know why SM wouldn't utilise it.
Rainier Surratt She got lazy with time, I wish she had taken herself more seriously because she's always had the most technical potential..
You're absolutely right. But it was still great to see them perform old songs and still sing with so much ease. Especially with all of their Japanese releases, TaeSic ad-libs for days.
I'll be waiting for it :-) Thanks!
Well Fany is also nasal like 90% of the time (well both Sunny and Seo are as well). Taeyeon is the only one with little to no nasality in SNSD.
DANG, I can only sing from E3 to E5...she's talented...
actually, define pop, because I see pop singers venturing into many genres, like R&B, Soul, Pop, Ballad, Pop-Rock and such, so they do need quite some vocals, Jessica has a D3 to F#5 full voice vocal range, many singers don't have such vocals, she can't go up to an A5 in mix, but she can use her head voice up to D6, if she ventured into singing more of her Tamia stuff, she could show us her full voice, she doesn't like range, she lacks confidence more than anything :3
What about the boys?Jessica did reach the highest "Girls bring the boys out"
It's in the video lol
+KitsuneMale (KpopVocalAnalysis) Oh I'm sorry I might have missed that but Jessica reaches G5 in show girls!
I made the video before the song show girls was released
this part is f#5
Agreed, and they are like pupils learning to be just like their older senior singers, so basically, in some years, these idol singers will be just as good, but of course an older singer is always thought to be better and more experienced! :3
ahh,,, thanks :D
by the way nice video.. Jessica is one of y Fave kpop singer
I love powerful mix notes, but a nice head voice note would always be nice too, like a nice higher controlled, crystal clear like Beyonce's in Emotions or SunYe's in When You Believe
Oh yes, I love Sunny's D6 too, she hit i very clearly
adlibs, yes, Jonghyun does meslimas sometimes, but that's more common for R&B/Soul groups like Brown Eyed Soul, Brown Eyes, even Brown Eyed Girls and Eye To Eye
right. amazing vocalist. Ignoring the nasality and straining. And intonation...lack of breath support, yeap, good vocalist.
I said SM ranked them this way in singing category:
1- Taeyeon
2- Jessica
3- Seohyun
4- Fany
... and that's why I said I don't care about their ranking when it comes to my personal opinion.
rip #2 lead singer jessica
I will forever appreciate your superb technique ( when you really try to sing with your best effort)
LOL at her her dolphin voice. thanks for making this ^^
I love Sica's and Taeyeon's voice the most
she is screaming but her vocal coach practices with vocal exercises so WE don't know cuz we haven't heard it but he was the one to say it
Thank you so much for this :x
Sica jjang!~ :x
oh lol k then, but yeah sometimes I wish they'd hit more head voice notes, but to think of it I couldn't think of a context where singing a high note would be applied, so I don't even know what songs would be appropriate for it
i suspected that her final "the boys" notes were f#5 as well ^^''
thanks for making this video :)
jessica is my bias!
I will make sure to watch.

So as you said personal ranking and you can love their voice, but can't deny their faults :3
of course she is a great belter!

@KitsuneMale People saying Jessica is a coloratura,Seohyun is a "Lyric low bass" and all this other stuff I'm like gagging right now lol
i think Tiffany was chosen bc she has more power behind her voice when singing in her lower register. where as jessica has more power in her higher register. so, having 3 singers like tea, sica, and seohyun, would be like haveing 3 singers that basically sound the same. When Fany belts it's tight throated, pushed and without power, it's just loud without support. When Sica belts it is tight throated and without power as well, but it's more stable than Fany who pushes to much.
I saw the title and I got scared lol. G#7? You are super troll 😂😂
oooo thanks for the info hehe.
Jessica's my ultimate bias, so... yep :3
I'm trying to practice whistle register too, but I don't know if I'm just screaming o_o
I personally don't agree with the whole classification of pop singers since I'm not a classical singer and neither are they. I would say she is more like a mezzo to me.

Uhm she used a very tense head voice to hit a C#6 in that song, which I includes in my vocal range video for sunny :3 so no she has never hit a whistle note
@karuhara u r right, i wasn't sure before to be honest...tnx!~
thank you thank you!
@SMAnthonyW u r welcome, it's hard cuz the note is like a flat F#5, so it's in between F5 and F#5....but oh well, u r very welcome!
ohh, got it, it's ok ^^, it's just that she's my bias and I want to see her vocal range, but thank you anyway !
@assymessy Definitely Jessica, even though I'm biased. Park Bom has very bad technique, Jessica has a wider range and better control of her voice, switching registers, maintaining tone, control...
좋아..좋아..
Actually, Jessica has hit F#5 in two SNSD songs, as you see in this video and G5 in a to-be-released OST song with Kris and Krystal, but nothing above that
@RockingSoulLuvsSuJu You mean vocal range videos for them all? Eventually, it shall be arranged ^ ^
JESSICA
Yeah IK. Also Sica has produced a full rounded tone before (AIWFCIY, Heaven, Wish Upon a Star). None of those three has done that.
Oh, I usually only make videos for singers who haven't had their ranges covered, there is a video for IU out there, and it's pretty much all Ik of her range too, I dunno bout her singing higher notes or lower....but I'll do a complete one! :3
she is amazing, because she can sing pretty low and crazy high!
i would kill to hear jessica sings run from younha. i think she would sounds really great with that kind of music *__*
wow.. i love jessica various vocal, and i think its high then taeyeon or the rest member in snsd.. and her coach was said her vocal actually can reach high then piano.. but i can't imagine if sica singing with (G#6).. maybe its first time the microfon and speaker be broken..he..he.. that is our princess..jessica..
isn't it annoying how people say jessica sounds nasal when Tiffany, Seohyun and Sunny are also nasal when they belt? Like, it's more of jessica's voice quality in that case....cuz when they belt, they place the voice wrong...
SM isn't not saying Jessica has the second best vocal TONE in SNSD, they are saying that she has the 2nd best technique in SNSD.
im pretty sure if she practices, she could get that high with a singing quality, i mean, she held that scream for how long? lol
yea i saw someone comment on a twinkle video claiming that they were the best three in terms of vocal range ...but i had seen somewhere that had said jessica was also a main vocal aswell?
Oh yes, C#3 to Bb5 I believe, it's bout that, 2.6 yeah they r, but Tiffany's at her limits, the other ones can extend more easily
Her dolphin scream is not a high note.
It's a joke.
KitsuneMale lol xD
Good job :3
@12zuzus yay I'm so flattered, tnx so much, I'm glad you like her voice!~ ^ ^
there's a video of her singing "i'll write you a letter" and she does some whistle notes :) haha
