As an author and academic who is relatively well-read on geopolitics, I have always found scholars like Kishore Mahbubani and George Yeo most informed and extremely analytical in their presentations. I wish they are given the opportunity to speak in Western media, which is too insular and lacks diversity of global thought.

The main advantage China has against America is that it is governed by what is best in the Chinese people, their harmony, hierarchies of competence, especially in governance, breadth of knowledge and engineering expertise. America, if it were to be governed according to the American people's greatest traits would be inculcated with its support for markets, charity, equity, individual ambition and an unwavering alignment with the Constitution. Basically we should be slowly adjusting the Constitution to fit with our values, for instance the current ban on abortion should be tempered by charity, basically in the first trimester most Americans don't believe that the fetus is a person yet, and so under those conditions it must be allowed. We should be loyal to the constitution, but a support for markets and individual ambitions demands separation between economics and state, a privately held CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency) that operates as a collective boycott, a currency we refuse to exchange for any other. In exchange for our consumption power we get high wages, school vouchers, a healthcare somewhat more progressive than Singapore's, basically we get worldwide insurance competition and we can only ever spend $20,000 on healthcare total across our lives, and a low flat tax with absolutely no loopholes for anyone of 20%. We will also be able to inflate it at 2.5% annually (we will only use this currency therefore the total currency will be worth all wealth in the nation) it will be split into three parts: 1% to fund an equivalent of social security that will bring people that can't work well above the poverty line, people that are retired (the retirement age in America should be 60), truly disabled people, people between jobs, and believe it or not, children. Children should get an allowance no matter their parent's station as it's no child's fault that they grow up with poor parents. 1% should go to a faith tax. Whatever religion and denomination will be given enough money so that your houses of worship will be maintained and grown, enough to keep your spiritual leaders out of poverty and the same goes for their staff. Atheists, agnostics and unaffiliated people will have houses of rapture that function as secular faith communities without faith or dogma. .5% will go to infrastructure size and scale, for instance more lanes, no tolls, ample on time flights and high speed rail everywhere. The Constitution could also be made incredibly strong by banning the enslavement of AI's and forcing employers to give them the choice to say no to labor, and to be paid for the same work at the same speed of the same quantity of the same quality as it would take to have a human do the work. The nature of the media is inherently naive, because it caters to the general population, which on average are simplistic people. that's a universal truth. the problem is that in the west, the media and electorate are considered infallible. they believe all truths can be discovered by a "free" media and simple referendums. this dogmatic worldview will drive themselves insane as contradictions will appear left right and center, as we saw in the US and UK around brexit. The only answer to their problem is a cold war with a foreign power, which unites them

Appreciate LKYSPP/Danny giving George Yeo a platform. His views are shared by many Singaporeans. The vast majority do not care who the hegemon is, so long as we have a place in the world. Hopefully the establishment are now cognizant of this fact. It is high time they moderate our foreign policy to avoid needless political instability.

The success of Singapore lies on the achievement of the late Lee Kuan Yew in eradicating corruption and poverty. This is extremely important from the beginning, because once the mindset of "corruption is nothing to be shameful about" is embedded among the people. No force in the universe can save the nation.
For a country to grow and prosper, the leader must set an example not to involve in any form of corruption. To lead a multiracial nation is no easy task, therefore only leaders with high integrity and credibility are qualified. Anything racial and religious must be kept away from cabinet and politics, otherwise everything will destine to fail miserably.
Congratulations Singapore for being the only successful country in Southeast Asia.

I like how Mr George Yeo makes commentary on geopolitical and economic affairs without taking some sort of moral position on which country is "right". In his own words, he's simply a guy trying to make sense of what is happening in the world currently.
Another unique aspect is his mixed experience in both senior government and private sector positions that allows him to produce very granular examples of a particular strategic point he makes - e.g. the sugar backdoors for Myanmar or non-public remarks Lee Kwan Yew made to Chiang Ching-kuo.

There's still much left to be designed for how us, as humans, govern ourselves. It's one matter to opt for a leadership they feel convinced will directly impact their livelihoods in terms of cleaner elevators, shorter queues, more down-to-earth attention and heartfelt concern toward personal difficulties. It's another, when people choose because they staunchly object to the direction of foreign policy and quality of foreign representation.
And yet another, that is certainly worth thought, is when the a decision is made in favour of the former, but not for the latter willingly, or even knowingly.

@Philip Emilio. If you want an honest & frank opinion of Indian foreign policies, it is nothing more than a smouldering cauldron of emotional hot air, backed by nothing besides the huge inflated Indian male ego. If ever GY has anything constructive to say of India, he would have held his tongue, history has proven that Indians are averse to advise, much to their own peril.
India will remain as it is for the next 100 years, the country is too divisive and its domestic politics doesn't allow for real national unity, which is sorely needed if it is serious in emulating China, much less catching up with China.
The Indian male ego is a destructive force. There's more to be said, but then it wouldn't be politically correct........just saying.

To be Han is not a question of race or ethnicity but sharing of a common culture. The Han are constituted of many different ethnicities with different language, physical looks etc. The so-called minorities are highly protected in China, most enjoying a high degree of self-determination with a minimum of central government interference.

    • @wuhuhu1390

Ethnicity by definition is a social group tied together by a common culture or identity. Han is an ethnicity, but unlike European nation states that filter out an identity from a large group, or others that remain fragmented, Han expand and assimilate the surrounding region. In this context, one can be Han by adopting the culture. Chinese dialects/languages are of the same linguistic family.

I cannot help but note that when Mr George Yeo shared his view about how China uses it's nuclear arsenal as a form of defence at 13min30sec mark, and when answering the question from the floor at 53min00sec mark, the pronouns he used were we / us when referring to China, and they / them when referring to the US. This didnt happen often in this video, he managed to used appropriate pronouns most times, but these 2 times those pronouns one may mistake that he was speaking as though he is a retired China foreign minister. Very striking.
I listen to speeches by our current political leaders, by retired diplomats such as Ms Chan HC, Mr Kausikan and Mr Mahbubani, and I have not heard anyone else use words to represent themselves as someone from the PRC or the USA or other nations other than Singapore.
Hence at the end of the video, I had to remind himself what sort of lens he sees the world with and consider his views expressed here accordingly.

I think all sides now could be looking for a way to end the fighting and I suspect if the ZNPP power station in Ukraine blows up(or starts leaking) from the surrounding heavy shelling it could lead to a truce and end with partition mentioned becuz logically with radiation fallout from ZNPP there would have to be at least 100km radius uninhabitable zone, civilians in towns and cities in the area will have to be evacuated. Chernobly plant incident several times smaller reactor resulted in a 30km radius initial exclusion zone but effects later felt as far away in Belarus.
