  • The subcompact HR-V is Honda's smallest SUV. It seats up to five people and is available in front- or all-wheel drive. It is powered solely by petrol, with no hybrid option. It remains identical in 2025, with the exception of blind-spot monitoring, which is now standard on all trim levels. The Honda HR-V evolved into an all new model for 2023, and it has mostly stayed stable since then. The main change for 2025 is that blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic warning is now standard on the LX and Sport trims, having previously only been available on the top EX-L Navi. All grades include a 2.0L four-cylinder engine with 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque, linked to an automatic continuously variable gearbox (CVT). The base LX trim is available in either front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD), whilst the Sport and EX-L Navi are AWD-only.
In his review of the 2023 Honda HR-V, Brendan McAleer wrote, "First, while the HR-V's new Civic underpinnings offer it somewhat more energy on the road, sportiness levels here are rising from souffle to, I don't know, quiche or something. The suspension and chassis have a more Honda-like feel, but the relatively light steering does not, and the powerplant lacks bite. Honda prioritised fuel economy above reactivity in its HR-V design. However, except from shorter interstate onramps, the HR-V provides a comfortable and calm driving experience. Shorter drivers will like the higher ride height, and the soft steering promotes a comfortable driving style. Furthermore, this vehicle is not as soft and detached as a Toyota may be. It's less crisp than a Civic, but delightful in its own right." In a popular and busy class, the 2025 Honda HR-V competes against the Chevrolet Trax and Trailblazer, Hyundai Kona, Kia Seltos and Soul, Mazda CX-30, Mitsubishi RVR, Nissan Kicks, Subaru Crosstrek, Toyota Corolla Cross, and Volkswagen Taos.
