Hope the recovery is going well dude? Funny enough, after owning a GS1200 LC, GSA 1250 and GS1250 over the last 3 years (!), I just bought a 2008 GS1200 as I was missing the old school oil / air cooled GS! I had a 2004 'mark 1' for 10 years previously and loved it. It's so nice to be back on a 'proper' motorcycle after looking at an 'ipad' for a speedo over the last few years and all the unnecessary technology! The only thing I liked was cruise control - but by chance this 2008 model has an aftermarket manual cruise control which is handy. I love these old GSs and they are easily fast enough. The non ESA suspension is beautiful and someone the bike has way more character / charm. It is a shame that the R Nine T range does not come in a full size frame (more like the GS). They are cool looking bikes with all the character and charm of the old school, whilst being new / shiny etc........but they are just too small and come with awful suspension!
I liked ESA - sometimes you want soft suspension, then you hit some mountain roads and you want a bit firmer ride - it happens often when you tour long distances. Recovery is slow and things will never be the same again but I'm getting used to it now. Thanks for asking and chiming in. Hope to make a video or two soon. Stay safe!
I read in the comments that you have a LC. I have a 1150GS and I want to upgrade to a 1200. I read that the 2010-2013 air cooled are very reliable. Is there a big difference in performance between the 2013 air cooled and the later LC model?
Big difference between the two, like riding different bike. 2013+ GS has sharper steering as well, more prone to tank slappers though (that's how my accident started).
WOW.. Good Video been there a few times on my 13 GSA. Now tell me ,how HOT did your back/neck get from the Exhaust recirculating back mine gets really hot. good riding
That's fantastic question Ross. New ones (LC model) have slightly longer gearing and never hit rev limiter in top gear. Mind you, I have adventure screen and top box.
I had a r1200r with the Same engine like this Model. It had a top speed if you lean on the tank of 238. The engine hits Hard in the revlimiter at that speed😡 but i think IT could eventuell handle more speed
+miragegp the old boxer motors feels dead compared to the new ones,i rode a 2005 r1200rt and it had a type of "lag" before the power came through. My father bought a 2014 r1200rt and its fantastic, but im still young so i enjoy my superbikes and scramblers😂😂
+miragegp steering dampers could combat wobbles or steering weave, but certainly not a "nervous" bike! (they could just pop the bike a Prozac, would be much cheaper). New models tend to come with many other upgrades; water cooling, better suspension etc. as a matter of fact, BMW has been doing this since 1980, every single new model that's been launched.
+Sarel Thanks for very entertaining replies... I own new LC GS, have ridden the air-cooled lot before - no info on what has been upgraded is really necessary. If you have never experienced chassis flex at high speeds, you have never ridden them hard or fast enough. Doing 120km/h they are super composed. So is 300cc Vespa.

I didn't notice any heat on my back. Perhaps it's your jacket, if it's darker colour, in the sun?
I wonder what the bigger limiting factor is, power or aerodynamics?

the limit is your money. Is certainly too less to buy a gs.
that's fast... why would you want to even go faster?
I'm definitely joining up with you soon. gotta get my learners sorted!
+Chifundo Banda Awesome. Then we go for a spin together !
vir n dual sport fiets is dit meer as vinnig genoeh
+speedx360SA I had to wait for LC to switch to GS. This one felt just a bit slow.

+speedx360SA Ahhh....superbikes...they're the best. Just a bit uncomfortable for me ;-)
+miragegp haha i must say they do get uncomfortable after about 200km's but when you hit the twisties all that dissapears and the fun begins
+speedx360SA That's true ;-)
Was that a cow on the side of the road? OUCH!!
No animals or people were harmed in making that video 😉.
In the 100 000 + k' on a gs, it has never felt one bit nervous...
+Sarel All new model GS' have been fitted with steering damper. That is factory's response. You think they were just wasting money ?

+miragegp now this makes a 100% sense to me. The "nervous" symptoms must be from driving your sisters Pasola scooter with assisted side wheels.
+Sarel I wouldn't let you ride my sister's scooter mate - you would have to learn on your own wheels.
Great roads!
+MrMislav In rural South Africa.
How fast was it? I can't see the speedo clearly!
Just over 230km/h
Ahh I see it! 217 👍😁
+DervMan Hawk eye !!!
+miragegp or just watched to the end 😉
+DervMan That helps ! ;-)
Yea puch it !!
Lol
uaho more than 220 km h
Yes
220 km/hr so fast
Relatively speaking...
