It was so busted in Wii. Completely invalidated almost every vehicle in the game. I’m glad the difference is a lot more nuanced now.

@@tammid8423no. if that was the case, the other half of bikes which are outside drift would be op too. inside drift in wii takes turns incredibly sharp and just saves time in every turn to outside drift. so basically only a handful of the 36 vehicles are viable in worldwides and literally only 2 vehicles are viable competitively. the balancing in that game was nonexistant.

ive been learning inward for like maybe 2 weeks now? learning the lines are pretty easy, but with inward im learning so much more tech that my brain is getting overloaded
Same started inward drifting like 3 weeks ago, but on 200cc wc (really got good, but damn it has me stressin like never before 😅)
The first few times I played inward, my brain actually gave up and I had to stop mid way through a grand prix haha

@@Shortcat321I’m the reverse oddly enough I’ve played inward drift on MK8 my whole life since I tried the demo at Nintendo world and picked an inside drift bike without knowing it. And I just CAN NOT get used to outside drift, I had to quit mid Grand Prix cause I just couldn’t get used to it
Glad you take the time to mention that it is still viable. It might be the objectively worse option is most situations, but if you are a good player you can certainly make it work with good success

I've ALWAYS used inward drift--I didn't even know it was a "meta" thing back in the Wii days because I was too young. XD I just happened to immensely prefer it, and I still rock the inward bikes to this day!
Technically the "inside drift" for 8 is what's callee hybrid, and is a lot worse than what Wii had, but still fun for certain tracks
This short explains a lot. I used to only ever use the yoshi bike when I was a kid and wrote off drifting as nearly useless for actually turning and proceeded to never really use it, all the while wondering how you were _actually_ meant to turn
I think it would be interesting to see no item 1v1s on different tracks between a decent inward and decent outward drift player. Outward allows for more tricks but inward feels faster
Outward holds every 150cc world record, but inward has some 200cc world records where mini turbos are less important

Inward drift has started to just feel better for me. Helps me take better lines, avoid hitting walls and more.

The best part about inward drift bikes is still coming in first over all of the players using meta karts and characters.
Remove the slight outward sliding and make the camera see better while drifting and then we can talk
I feel like if they just let inward drift bikes change which way they're facing by hopping, just like outward drift already can, that's immediately a huge buff. They'd charge mini turbos better and a lot of their turning problems would be fixed

I think you deserved it! Everyone has access to smart steering. If you're good enough at the game, smart steering makes you worse. Literally they just had a skill issue
I dont think anyone else thought of using smart steering so id say the win was deserved for your creative solution, even if its not the most ideal one
Sometimes smart steering is the best thing to use
smart steering is the thing you use on 200cc tracks with no walls on the outer edge of a turn
After watching a few shorts of his, I really couldnt get my head over how familiar his voice sounded. I really couldnt tell who he really sounded like until I watched another J Perm video! I think an easy way to put it is that it depends on how *YOU* as a player want to play the game. If you can make either option work, then go for it

There's a kind of preparation for inwards drift that requires a different entry angle and exit angle. I'd say with proper tech it's equal to outwards drift, but it's a little harder to dodge items with ur handling stat, so you're always on your toes

I miss when inside drift was different enough to incentivize trying out the bikes, but didn’t allow orange mini turbos as a compromise. I miss that so much.
Certain maps favor one or the other, usually though, it's outward drift. Dragon driftway is a perfect example of a map terrible for the inward drift.
Surprisingly I find Cheese Land, Squeaky Clean Sprint and a few others great with inward, but outward drift isn't hampered the way inwards drift is on their bad maps.
So outward, imo is way more consistent, even if there are maps that may favor inwards.
I've always found the opposite, flying off the map with outside drift...you can make sharper turns but the drift itself goes so wide its crazy
I like inside drift more because I am not part of yoshi teddy buggy hive mind and the turns are more commital so I don’t fall off. I also don’t lose speed when drifting with inward drift

Inward drift is just something i could never learn. I'm so used to outward that when i switch to inward for a challenge, it's a new way to play in which i have no idea how it works.

I wonder how balanced the game would be if inside drifting was buffed to be closer to mkwii
i got 3rd place in a local tournament, being the only one in the event playing with a bike instead of a kart. Not that i thought about it much, just liked the look of the bike lol
Inside drift in mkwii was good because it literally meant you could drift any time you wanted to move left or right, which gave really good maneuverability to high drift stat bikes but in mk8 they added just an ever so slight delay when starting up your drift which makes ALL the difference when it comes to maneuverability.
And also inside drift bikes in mkwii were generally much thinner than all the outside drift vehicles which helped too.
In mkwii you could also wheelie much sooner with an inside drift bike than an outside drifting bike after releasing a miniturbo. Obviously in 8 wheelies don’t exist so that doesn’t matter now.

You hold drift off of a ramp and then you release the drift button and trick at in close succession
This also works on ramps, but instead of getting a super bounce you get a bit more forward momentum

I didn't even realise inward drift and outward drift were a thing until today. I always play inward because the bike I like the look and feel of uses inward and just got really comfortable with it. I don't even know if I would be able to use an outward drift vehicle since I'm so used to inward lmao
Inward drift is a real life saver on 200cc since you have sort of a less chance to fall off the track. It may take a little while to get used to, but I think inward drift is better on 200cc
the moment i took a bike in mk8 when it got released, I saw the inward drift bikes. ever since, i've become so accustomed to inward drifting that I pick outward drift karts to nerf myself when playing with friends

yoshi either gp or flame runner (the starter inside drifters) small cyan wheels and paper glider
meanwhile my brother someone with more open skill uses diddy kong with buggy small wheels and paper plane
at the start he always won against me but now i can easly beat him

I will always stick to outside drift karts in this game and mk7 when I am playing 8DX but when playing MKW then it’s inside drift for me. I’m so used to MK7 and 8 physics with the outside drift physics which I’m used to only in 8DX
this seems like it would be fun to learn, but we’ll see if i ever bother trying 🤪

It basically happens when you release a mini-turbo at the same time as tricking on a bounce pad
Also if you drift and trick at the same time off of a ramp you get more forward momentum than usual

I always use outward drift. It's crazy how in Wii, inward drift is the comfiest, and for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe it's outward drift.

What makes Outwards Drift better than Inward? There are the sharp turns that we have to deal with by looking ahead, and an Outward Drift would make us look better during these kind of turns. Generally, knowing where we have to face is essential and Outwards Drift fills the checkbox on that, but what if you actually know how the course layout is, you know? If you know how it looks, would it make inwards drift better?

Simply release a miniturbo as you trick off of a bounce pad (e.g. mushroom gorge mushrooms) and boom, super bounce

Would you consider making a video on the best inward drift bikes? Like is mini turbo slightly less important because its harder to get bigger drifts? Or is speed slightly more important to maximise the benefit of sharper turns?
Or in most cases do you want still the same stats so that Yoshi Bike > Rollers > Cloud Para and its variants are probably the best?
The majority of the time it's possible to get the same drifts as outward, and since they prioritize mini-turbo because the stat itself is good, that doesn't change and that combo (or any of its cousins w/ the same stats) works well. However I've found that high traction makes it a lot easier for inward to turn sharply, so if you're feeling like you just can't make certain turns try swapping to sponge tires (they have the same MT+Speed stat as rollers). Just my two cents
