Note that the device is TAP only. May not have made this clear enough in the video. It only loads tape images.

MicroSD are even more fun when they fall in to a case instead of the holder.

Vile things! Just use normal size!

Wowzers, now there's a niche product. Good luck to the makers 👍

Erebus... the Greek god of shadows or darkness. I don't get why anyone would want to name their device after someone so foreboding, but other than that, it's a damn fine piece of kit. :)

Who would've thought that decades after the fact someone would make a device that makes using these old computers both more convenient and more fun to use? And new software being written to boot! Those kids of the eighties are now adults with disposable income.

An interesting device - but the ribbon cable is a little concerning, and a shame the 3D print was not particularly good. But these sort of devices are essential these days for 8-bit machines.

I got mine without enclosure and modelled and printed an Atmos shaped enclosure for it.

Trouble is, most of us don't have the skills or the printer.

The kit was tied up elsewhere.

I think there are a few SDCard + alternative OSes for the Oric but their creators are not super great at advertising them. That's a common problem in hobbyists communities: the one who is good at solving a technical problem is rarely talented in terms of User eXperience (UX), construction, ergonomics and advertising. So we end up with a good idea marketed by eBayers who 3D print the thing with their sister's "Barbie 3D printer" with predictable results.
It doesn't even require any of them to be ill meaning in any way for the end result to be disappointing.
This "industry" really needs some talented and efficient intermediaries who can provide the missing expertise in those domains without extracting ridiculous amounts of money in the process (and who respect hardware creators's IPs.
    Thanks for the video Chinny!

Also, I will never understand why nobody uses wood to make those cases. A block of wood of that size costs nothing and can be automatically machined "en masse" very easily.
Add some lacquer and you would have a gorgeous case for cheap.
I will never understand why wood is not more used by hobbyists. It's so much faster and easier to sculpt than plastic is to 3D print.

I don't really know why they bothered to 3D print the case. I'd have thought it would be easier, cheaper and all around better to get a suitably sized project box from RS. Yeah, well, what do I know.

When I made the Erebus project I chose the plastic box 1591XXSSBK from Hammond for the PCB screwed inside.

I'm guessing a design was provided as part of the project and different sellers can use it. And some may make a hash of it!

how cheap are radio shack boxes? pla/petg filament can be had around here nowadays for like 7-9 euros per kilo.
they should've just printed the case properly and redesigned it a bit really. they could've also just made a box from the pcb itself like the cheapest class d amps nowadays do, they just got standoffs. and another pcb with stuff printed on it.

Is your mic processor's gate not working, you echoey Bruce Forssyth look-alike (one assumes). Great vid as always. I had an Oric once. I didn't like it, but I had to go along with it....

I'm always echoey in the kitchen as I'm not in the studio. But it's a new house and due to kit being all in the wrong places I had to use a Rode NTG-2 from above rather than my preferred Rode M3 from below. The studio is properly set up and gated to boot.

You know I’m only joking.. Steve Wright would be turning in his grave full of cart machines and Optimod processors… As always, love the show, Chinny ❤

I have the common black case variant, and the case is miles better quality than yours, and ejecting the card is much easier.
