You can Google the locations of the resorts and not all of them are actually resorts. I’m using my credit this year at Waldorf Astoria in Versailles just outside Paris. It’s easier to use than it seems. Also i used to use the United travel bank for the airline credit.
The Aspire Hilton Resort credit also has CANNOT be an Advanced Reservation or Non-refundable reservation. That's something that they don't normally say. I was able to call Hilton and they cancelled it, so that I could rebook it as a refundable, non-advanced reservation. It was more expensive, but not $250 more expensive.
I’m excited about the changes to the aspire changes. I travel for work and that’s a free $50 bucks each quarter. The $400 credit is nice too because we do weekend getaways throughout the year. Great stuff!!!
As a Amex Surpass owner: losing Priority Pass is a deal breaker for me. It was the cheapest option to get in to airport lounges. I’ll probably downgrade soon or outright cancel it.
The Conrad in Las Vegas is a Hilton Resort and litterally across the street from the LV convention center - so if you have business travel for conventions in vegas - heres a place to use the resort credit!
Could someone tell me how I could guarantee the hotel credit by booking through the app? Or would I just call the hotel and make the reservation? I see the hotel credit does not apply to prepaid booking. But when booking through the app, they force me to prepay. It doesn’t matter which rate I choose. It still forces me to prepay. I bought a (resale) Hilton timeshare in Las Vegas, which is $200 every 4th quarter, and $950 every other 1st quarter. That's $600 in credits I don't even have to remember, just $200 in the even years Jan-Jun. We're happy with the changes, I just hope the Business Hilton doesn't go crazy with vacation coupons too.
@@Zenichiro I think these changes benefit HGVC owners amongst the best. I'm just surprised by all the people disappointed at the loss of Priority Pass. Maybe they do more road trips and don't have any other dedicated travel card with it.

We currently are using our HGVC 8k week and borrowing 8k for 16k total big redemptions. Then using all the HH points for the off year. Love it

Yes, you have access to the new benefits and credits immediately and your old benefits and credits are still active I believe until either the end of the calendar year or February 1st, 2024. I forgot which, but at this current time, you should be able to utilize both credits.

@@jonhet0006 if your wife is a new applicant that was approved after the new Aspire changes, then she will only have the new credits. Old credits are only available to those who applied and were approved prior to these new changes being rolled out. If she was approved prior, then she will have both credits until end of year, after which she will only have the new credits.
I chose the no fee Hilton card. The multipliers are not much different for gas, restaurants and groceries between the no fee and the Surpass and between those two, online retail would be 4x on Surpass would be 3x on the regular. Restaurants is 1x differential between all 3 cards at 5x, 6x and 7x respecially. They are all 3x on everything else. Their multipliers are weird. Its at Hilton hotels obviously where you obviously gain the most at 7x, 12x and 14x respectively.
I think I will keep my Surpass card. I can most likely still the same or more value from these changes. Bigger question is what to do about the Aspire, Delta Reserve, and the baseline AMEX Platinum? Good video, Ben!
well, I have the surpass card . Only reason I got it is because it's the cheapest annual fee card that has priority pass. Now that its gone, will be downgrading it to the no fee Hilton card

Eh not a fan of Hilton properties and they just turned these cards into further coupon books. I've been moving away from Amex cards for these reasons. Other bank cards are simpler and straight forward, like chase and Citi IMO.
They finally upgraded their card design from that ancient looking card design that I now have. I love the new look of the card and I’m also okay with the other changes.

If you don't stay at Hilton resorts the changess to the Aspire card are a big negative. Basic Emerald is useless. Between the ongoing Hilton point devaluations, the loss of Priority Pass and the fee increase I will not renew my card. Since the card is necessary to extract value from a Hilton stay, I won't be staying at Hilton after I use all my points. I hate how Amex makes changes without notice and fails to grandfather in existing cardholders.
I'm not happy with the changes. Losing Priority Pass for one. Then the new $200 x 2 resort credit..I mean, I think the average person doesn't go on 2 separate vacations specifically to an Hilton Resort, every single year. And while the airline credit seems more flexible, it will require keeping track of when the credit is available, and booking a new flight every 3-4 months, to utilize it. I have really enjoyed having this card and the Diamond status has been nice, but these changes do feel quite underhanded. They know this makes the benefits more difficult for the average person to utilize regularly. Add in the increased fee, the card feels Far less valuable in my wallet now. I feel we can break even with the fee/benefit balance, but that's about it. Not impressed.
For the hotel and or Airline credit- would I be able to purchase gift cards? For example- I won't fly in every quarter so to maximize that offer can I purchase $50 in gift cards for let say southwest and get the credit?

As a Californian, I use it as my Gas card, and grocery card. With everything being so high here, My surpass card comes in greatly. The $50 credit more than makes up for it for me.

No. Gift card transactions run through a different system than those of the actual airlines they represent that won't code as an airline purchase. Your best bet to build up on this airline credit is to buy a cheap one-way ticket each quarter and subsequently cancelling the trip to get travel credits to be used later when you do have a trip in mind. Note that Southwest is the only airline who's travel credit does not expire, I believe. Most other airlines have an expiration period of 1-year on travel credits.
I still believe is a good credit card. I have stayed in hilton resort in Puerto Rico (free 2 night because of points) and is a good place to stay. In would have loved to have the diamond status to get free breakfast and room upgrades.

I got a promotional upgrade from Hilton Honors to Surpass after one year. I also did see an upgrade offer in my account from surpass to Aspire (wasn’t exactly at one year mark). So there have been upgrade offers in the past, not sure if it is still the case
I've gotten an upgrade offer for the Surpass I kept it the 13 months then downgraded back to the honors then like 6 months later I got another upgrade offer for the Aspire kept it again and now I have the surpass once again

I prefer Hilton to Marriott generally, but the fact that the $95/year Marriott Bonvoy Boundless from Chase and the $250/year Bonvoy Bevy from AMEX both get free night awards makes it hard for me to love the AMEX Hilton cards. And I’ve had the Surpass since 2016. I feel like for the $150 fee, it should come with a free night award to compete with the Marriott cards. I wonder if the business Hilton card will be next?
Waiting on Wells Fargo to drop a new tier 3 travel card and change the game lol. Amex has been on a downward spiral. If they change up the gold I might have to abandon ship. Hopefully not.

A nice alternative for Groceries is the Blue Cash Preferred, which gets 6% cash back. Keeps things simple.

coincidentally just got my second year aspire card charge this month. They still charged me 450

Believe as long as your renewal is before February 1st, 2024 you pay the current rate

Starting November 15, 2023 Wells Fargo is supposed to be adding transfer partners to the Autograph card that'll definitely depending on the transfer partners make an Active Cash/ Autograph Duo a great fee free setup
Wells Fargo's ethics scandal from several years ago is enough to keep me away from them for the foreseeable future. I don't care how many benefits they offer, taking clients money or committing basic fraud, is good enough for me to stay away forever!

You have to love Amex creativity. Splitting credits to force people to spend more, or maybe forget all together about credit. Seems like an intentional way to stream line, lines at lounges. I won’t be surprised if other credit cards follow trend of eliminating Priority Pass.
Or maybe the card is designed for people whose lifestyle involves frequent purchases that take full advantage of the credits?

New Hilton Aspire card now a metal card. I’ll take that since my biggest gripe about the old design was having the card number embossed on it. Rather have it printed on the back.
I'm hoping they all go to the new style, we aren't making carbon copies that need raised numbers for the old knuckle buster analog machines
So i have aspire card, and i used $250 resort credit and $250 airline credit already and my renewal date is in 27October.
If I renew my card, Do I get to spend another $250 resort credit before 31 December?
And i will get $200 resort credit in January and $50 airline credit per quarter?
I'm not gonna get used to it.
