A great testbed for the future destroyers electronics and weapons systems. That is basically what they are as the power and room onboard these are stretched out to the max. For the coming decade they will do but once they need to be upgraded the navy will run into problems. They would have done better to make a cruiser based on the Arleigh Burke if they wanted long term service. But these are just an interim solution until they are finished with the design of the next generation of destroyers.
These should be around Hawaii, Japan, South Korea and Guam all the time as long as the flight 3 is only available in low numbers. Once there are enough of them they can join the IIA in protection of individual carrier groups. The PLA missile forces are mainly a threat to fixed targets for now.

that's where the paper-thin hull meets ship frame. think of a building, we ironworkers put up the steel frame just like with a ship (and talk shit about carpenters the entire time) but instead of pretty fake brick or drywall making it all officy and modern (barf) it is steel welded to the frame of the ship, which warps it slightly as it cools. steel hull ships have always had this quirk, and like the other guy said, the aestheticians of iron are in very low supply. luckily we have lots of queer dance therapy classes in our universities nowadays, though. that oughtta help

I wish they would make a few burkes about 50 ft longer. 2 reasons. 1. Since the US Navy is decommissioning all its cruisers a bigger Burke could have an anti air warfare command center for the battle group 2. A bigger Burke could carry more VLS canister than they presently carry 96/90. Maybe 150 plus or so, this is a big deal because they cannot be the loaded at sea. This might be a problem in the western pacific

It's obvious your narrator doe not understand military nomenclature. This was evident when he tried to put a phonetic name to the radar system. Whenever you see AN/SPY-1 that means, AN Army Navy and the SPY is also code for the particular type of equipment. Just like TRQ was for radio intercept equipment and ALQ was for heat seeking missile jammer. It all has meaning and NOT as a phonetic word. Granted, soldiers and sailors do apply "nicknames" to these particular pieces of equipment, such as the TRQ was coined "turkey" while a piece titled TLQ was coined "Tilkey" bu this is left up to the people who work with the equipment. So understanding how the services title something might lend more credence to you. However, I doubt it. It is obvious through the wording used in this video that this was nothing more than reading the media release provided by the manufacturer/military.
