@@danielsantana6858 Gates timing belts and Aisin water pump, are the best name brand. I would recommend changing the timing belt adjustment pulleys as well, those would be Koyo name brand. And also there is a balance shaft seal retaining clip that should be used to keep that seal from backing out. Those are only like 7 bucks.

i really enjoy this this replacement is a complicated project and he walks you through it piece by piece and even go into the tiny details that are not necessarily important but good to know especially when you are new to car repairs. most how to's was you take this thing off then this thing and this thing which isn't as helpful as going through it slowly.

    Thanks for the video.
Your video was the main one I watched to do my 2002 Accord’s timing
belt, tensioners and water pump. There
were many helpful tips and the step by step instructions made the job stress
    free.
I did the job over 2 partial days but much of the time was
reviewing the video for the next step and to make sure all pulleys were in
perfect alignment. I also changed the oil,
filter, coolant, spark plugs and replaced the valve cover gasket. I used an Aisin kit $132 shipped with
Mitsuboshi belts, Aisin pump and Koyo tensioners.
I probably saved over $1,000 in labor but I do not blame
them for charging that much; it’s a job.

Get nuts and bolts of various sizes. Weld the nuts to pipe or put them into a vice. Tighten the bolts till they snap off. Do the same thing with threaded aluminum until they strip. I had an apprentice named Steven about five years ago. He was completely green. We spent a whole day destroying fasteners to give him the feel of when it's too much.

I have to say that this is the most informative video of this job on the internet, I have been preparing to do this on my 2000 Accord and have watched this several times (just look at all my comments) might seem a little overkill but this is a job you need to get right the first time and I seem to pick up something different each time. I do want to say that although he did mention it, it was cut short and I missed it.. But after putting the balancer belt back on, take that long temporary bolt out of the maintenance hole in the back of the engine so the shaft can move freely and replace the permanent bolt. Also I answered my own question on the best prying position to re-tighten the P/S pump. I didn't realize there was a 1/2 in. ratchet notch on the pump to attach a breaker bar for leverage. I credit my newly acquired Honda repair manual for that info. Like before, I know this is an older video but thanks again Brian for all the time and patience you put into your videos to help us do these jobs ourselves and saving lots of $$$$. When I am able, I will search your channel and help you out ($$) if applicable.

I'm headed into this job, and I'm glad I watched your vid first . . . well, actually yours was the 3rd or 4th I've watched, but your obvious know-how along with some well-placed foresighted and cautionary advice ( i.e. , , , don't back off the alt. adjuster 100 %, I thought it was really decent of you to demo how difficult it is to re-attach the darn thing ;-) !! ), the main reason I also preferred Haynes Manuals to Chilton . . . H's always seemed to give a bit of, "if you do this . . . then that", kind of advice.
    Overall . . . Great Job !! . . . and thank-you !!
BTW . . .I don't know what/if " Spanky" got "compensated" for her excellent efforts, but if all she got was entertainment value, I expect it was almost worth it for that alone !!

I was raised to be very specific. It's very natural for me to give details like that. It's more me than the USA as a whole. However, being in the US whith so much SAE (Society of American Engineers) and Metric mixed it's not a bad idea to be very specific I think. Metric fasteners are quite rare. They have been a special application themselves. It doesn't cost you much time to be specific unless you debate it, then you may be funny. : )

You didn’t see it in video maybe he didn’t do it but you need to change the the pulleys tensioner sprocket everything. Many belts fail due to 1 of those. It’s 50/50. Sometimes belt just breaks. Oil leaks out from between timing cover due to seals,crank-cam. Look like giant orings. Go behind crank-can. Wich ever is leaking. I change those anyways along with everything he took off. That’s the correct way for a timing job. But he did say the customer was tryng to save money so I’m sure it was just a belt swap Wich to me is totally waste of time and money. Its only about $150 for everything. $30-$40 for the belt. I’ll soend the extra $100 and be assured my new belt isn’t gonna break because I’d tensioner pulley sprocket failure. Oh plus the oil leak, big no no. That oil is coating your belt and if it slips you need to set it again, but if your driving it won’t slip it will just be catastrophic breakdown. Luckily this is a Honda. You can’t ruin your valves. It’s always gonna be just a timing job.

Almost assembled an oxy-acet torch but a buddy happened to have a 4x torque multiplier which worked like a charm! (keeping my eye out on Ebay for one now! 2) getting lower timing cover off was not even close to how easy as it looks in your video; got it out with a few scrapes, putting it it back was another nightmare!

Brian, thanks for the awesome video! Just did mine today (well, and yesterday). I think the person who did the timing belt last time didn't put the bolt in to hold the balance shaft. In that case there is no instruction on getting aligned again, but M Wiley Blackburn posted a RUclips video called "2000 Honda Accord 2.3 LX: balancer belt installation" on how to get it aligned correctly, based on marks that are available - it worked for me and it is actually running much smoother, I am assuming because now the balance shaft is actually balancing the engine correctly.

Being specific helps. The hardware store I go to carries each metric bolt diameter at two different pitches. Some people may not know the trend with ISO 261 is to use coarse pitches. I didn't know this trend too until now. ;)

Thank you for an excellent "how to" video. I'm so impressed, with your guidance and encouragement I really believe I can tackle this job relatively easy. I've done a similar job on a Nissan Quest. After watching this most enjoyable tuber, I have decided to begin first thing in the morning. Because of you I went and purchased my first set of pneumatic tools. I'm now a big fan of Briansmobile1 and Spanky who by the way did a most excellent job as well.

briansmobile1, Have watched a few of your videos and find them very informative and thorough. Anyone think your not a top notch technician is just dealing with some kind of envy jealousy. Been repairing vehicles for approx. 20 yrs. or so and you have saved me time and money on the repairs I had not encountered on the few not familiar with. Great job and maybe you should consider being an instructor as age creeps up on you.
Thanks and keep up the great work.

Keep in mind, without the big air gun briansmobile1 has, you need either a chain wrench or the crankshaft pulley tool to hold the crank pulley still. Usually these pulley bolts are on really tight and when you undo them it sounds like you broke something. I've done many timing belts in Hondas, Acuras and Toyotas and it is pretty similar. with regards to 4 cylinders.

The FSM says to use the crankshaft pulley tool. I wish I had realized I could use my chain wrench. Oh well!

Oil-pump keeper bolt? I'm doing one of these in the morning.Did I miss that part also? Other than that, wow, hell of a good job with you and the camera person. I watched another guy on RUclips trying the same job, and oh boy...not good. Anyway, I'm a Pro and you saved me some time on this video for sure. I always under-bid these jobs, and so watching you sure helps. Great work. I thank you sir.
