  • Emmy Award-winning actor and filmmaker Michael Goorjian spoke to CivilNet about Amerikatsi (American), a new film he directed, wrote for and produced. It tells the story of an Armenian Genocide survivor in the United States who moves to Soviet Armenia in the 1940s, only to end up in prison. From his cell he is able to communicate with an Armenian family in the next building, from whom he learns about the Armenian experience in the USSR. Goorjian talked to CivilNet about what it was like filming on location in Armenia, why his team casted Armenian talent and how people can watch his new film.

Many thanks to Civilnet for reveling great programs, movies, and other initiatives that we can participate in. I will definitely watch the film. Special thanks to Mr. Goorjian for the film. We need more movies about our heritage. I hope one day Disney will make a movie based on our legends.

My Nana survived the 1915 Armenian Genocide. My Nana was only 6 yrs old. Eventually she made it to America. Nana told me of the brutality, murders, and the savagery she experienced, everything she went threw and everything she witnessed. I was eight yrs old when we started talking about the 1915 Armenian Genocide. Nana said to me Never forget where you come from. I love and miss you Nana. Never forget.

Many Thanks, Michael! I really enjoyed Amerikatsi! The most inspiring in the movie is even though the main character went through turbulence, chaos but never lost his love for his nation and mother land. Don't give up! You are amazing!

I am 62 years old, I grew up with the second generation of repatriates after the Second World War. I will never forget those wonderful days. A great idea, must have a continuation. The second generation of repatriates are still alive, and 1000 stories and experiences are still alive. Unfortunately, these people have been scattered all over the world.

Just saw the movie in Pasadena : it was only me and my 2 friends for 4:50p
Movie was ok, story very meaningful....but too slow...sometimes unnecessary ling pauses.....Main actor, Gorjian, is very talanted, great performance ...total Method acting...other were not goid at all: mostly people looked too modern - fat or overweight This is a detail, but important....there were no so well fed Armenians in Armenia then, I know bec I grew up at that time....all in all, I am happy that some are at least trying to do something to tell the sad Armenian history
