Hi, Dr. Peng I just wanted to say thank you so much for the exercise that you are doing. It really had helped me I really appreciate it. I’m getting better.
Thankyou ❤ You are the best informer to help our guys sitting home. You need to take care of yourselves and make an effort, hard work to feel better. 🇸🇪
Dr Peng: Thank you. I have arthritic knees, and have RA. To alleviate pain, I take pain medications from time to time. I can do these exercises without pain and within my endurance limits. I believe it is improving my conditions. I will also follow your video on lower back pain exercises. Thanks again.
Excellent explanation of the various treatments and their efficacy. I’m 75 and had to stop running at 50 due to severe osteoarthritis. I now cycle and/or go to the gym about 5 days a week. I’ve run the gamut of treatments over the years: PRP: Once a month for 3 months. No apparent effect. Nerve ablation: Once - No apparent effect. Steroid injections: 3 shots per knee every 3 months for several years. This appeared to have some benefit but not a dramatic improvement. Finally, last year, I had one knee replaced and I wish I had done it sooner. I was back to work (desk job) and climbing stairs in 4 weeks. I hope to get the other knee replaced as soon as I can get scheduled. I’m using Tylenol and topical NSAIDs in the meantime. I was not offered the viscoelastic injections but I would have liked to try them. I do appreciate the summary of recommendations on the various treatment options as I’ve tried to minimize the use of oral NSAIDs and also try to cut down on the use of Tylenol in favor of Turmeric and topical CBD. Thanks again for the informative and concise summary of available options.
Thank you. Your matrix of treatment risk was very informative and demonstrating the exercises adds to my confidence that my recently discovered arthritis will be quite manageable. Much better info than my own doctor
Dr Peng , thank you so much for your knee workout video ! I suffer knee arthritis on both knees. I shall implement this to the letter ! Thanks for all your videos that are very interesting and very informative. Greetings from Switzerland🇨🇭
These are great exercisesxand very well explained. Im a ballroom dancing teacher in my late 70s . Ive had àrthritis in one of my knees for more than a decade. A seriously damaged anterior meniscus and also cartilage damage. Every specialist ive been to has emphasised the paramount importance of keeping leg muscles strong, and i do this regularly at home, with gym work and also with my dancing. Dancing well requires the use of most of the leg muscles and also builds good balance and fluid controlled movement. ( but you have to work at it! You cant buy it in a supermarket) The only exercise ive been advised to avoid is the quad stretch with the ankle pulled close to the buttocks. For me thats a definite no-no, but that may be just specific to my detailed problem. Ive had cortisone unjection into the knee before dance competitions. They do exactly what it says on the tin. But of course, it wont repair anything and can encourage movemenrs which ultimately cause more damage. As part of my management i use anti- inflammatory gel 2% voltarol works best for me . Turmeric is good for overall systemic inflammation. Dont forget take it with some fat and a pinch of ground black pepper.
Hello Dr.Peng…glad to have found these exercises (really can’t believe I want to find exercises! 😮). I have bone on bone on my left knee and am seriously considering knee replacement. The pain around the knee cap, the sharp jabs down the leg, the stiffness that prevents me from doing the stairs are all the stories you have heard. I think I can do all of the exercises besides the bent knee on the floor and the prone one facing down on floor. Unfortunately, I have lumbar stenosis and I think that one will not be on my list. I did 3 cortisone shots on my left and 2 on my right last year. In addition, I had the gel injections in December. It made my left knee worse. Will watch your PRP video. Thank you!
Great video doc! To improve knee pain outcomes from exercises, maintain a healthy weight to reduce joint stress. Strengthen surrounding muscles with low-impact activities like swimming or cycling. Stretch regularly to enhance flexibility and range of motion. Use proper footwear, avoid high-impact activities, and stay consistent with exercise routines for lasting benefits.
Honestly, I have just about giving up on living. Especially after reading about arthritis and the fact that there's no cure. I'm so happy for the folks who live in advanced countries where they at least have some options for getting through another day with less pain, even if not a cure
Thanks jeffrey watching here in the phillippines .i have knee jointpains and some of my exercises which im already doing is really effective and aside from it Im having my brisk walking everday for one week now .I felt reliefmalsomin walking
Hello, Dr. Peng As the others I very like this video! It brought me more understanding about the different muscles location and how to activate or stretch them! My question is why are the stretching exercises given first? Shouldn't we first activate the muscle and the stretch them? I think many people will confuse and make the stretches before the exercise.. Of course thank you for the great info!
thanks for the information, Dr Peng. What about the individual who has been diagnosed with bone on bone knee arthritis but have no to very little pain. I do full squats, climb 2 stairs at a time, run downstairs, do quad curls with 60 lbs, goblet squats with 30 lbs, walking lunges 40 lbs, walk backwards upstairs, ski, jumping jacks, burpees, work on the acreage around my home and refuse to sit more than 1/2 hr. I am 72, take NO pain meds, injections or otherwise. The only activity I cannot do that I did in the past is distance running which is ok because I now focus on strength. I want to take it further with Smith Machine squats, have some concerns with injuries. Please advise Dr Peng, no one takes me seriously.
This is a perfect example that we treat PEOPLE, not images. Symptoms do not correlate with radiographic findings. I tell my patients that they can do whatever they enjoy doing and brings them happiness in life (as long as they are not limited by pain).
Dr. Peng, Since I like this set of exercises so much and I have tons of time every day (fully retired), can I possibly do the entire set 2 or 3 times a day? Would doing it too OFTEN backfire and start to hurt my knee? Thanks for this life-saving video.
Hi there I watch your videos which have been tremendously helpful. I have had arthroscopy on my right knee due to a torn meniscus. This was performed on the 11th of February 2024 unfortunately I am still in a lot of pain. The doctor said that this is because I have severe osteoarthritis which was an underlined problem that's why it is taking so long to heal. I have been for physiotherapy which helps and also take pain killers when necessary. I also swim in the sea every morning for 55 minutes some people say I shouldn't but I feel that it helps your opinion on this please. I am going to start your exercise routine tomorrow hopefully this will help too. 😊
I recently subscribed. Im so glad to have found your channel. Diagnosed last July of degenerative OA of L knee but my R is also in pain. More videos please. All the best!🎉🥂❤
I like your explanation and videos. Could you please add some exercises for knee arthritis that could be done in the swimming pool. I don’t know swimming but do some simple exercises in the pool. Your expertise will help me in doing the right exercises. Thank you in advance
Thanks for the good content; with a few modifications most could do these. Most people with arthritis wouldn't be able to stretch the quads like that. They'd have to usea strap, or soften the standing leg to allow more room for the other leg (and keep hips forward). Most likely they'd have to place the lower leg on the seat of the chair and then stop forward slightly to stretch the quad. I'm surprised you didn't offer these versions. The advanced level, they'd need a cushion under the knee to protect it.
extremely helpful….. not at all too fast …. if it were any slower i would have turned to another video. I found the breakdown of various treatments for knee pain, their short and long term effectiveness, expertly detailed and in a nutshell presentation for lay people to understand. 😊 🙏
I noticed that knee pain exercises and hip pain are the same can i just any other the two exercises or stretches?Thank you doc ,i just found your channel but i find them too much i don’t have much time to do all those ,.thanks!
I am so glad I found you. I started doing the shoulders, neck and now legs and knees. Great videos. I put it on stop, to complete the exercises. I am having all kinds of issues. I think from having work that keeps me sitting all day. Even though I swim regularly and walk. I will start this regimen. Thanks again.
Seated leg extensions kinda feel uncomfortable on my bone on bone knee. (No pain, just weird feeling) Should I skip or continue? Any other alternatives? Thank you in advance ❤
Unable to do anything w/ deep knee bends. I have tears in meniscus on both knees and grade 2 osteoarthritis. How do you determine the injection target for this? Most pain is behind the knees and a bit on the inside of one knee.
Thanks for very helpful videos. I have knee discomfort (X-rays show no O-A issues as per my orthopedic doctor. I was doing some of these. Assume they are also recommended for non-OA patients
Hi Dr Peng, I’m currently 12 weeks post TKR and doing well, unfortunately my other knee with a lesser degree of OA has started to flair up again with severe inner side pain with any movement, I’m keen to avoid another replacement 😳 are these exercises ok/beneficial for both knees? Many thanks, subscribed. 🥰🏴🇬🇧
Half squats are great exercises for quad strengthening if you have meniscus tears or arthritis. Talk with your physical therapist if you're having pain doing specific exercises.
The quadriceps-stretch creates some considerable amount of joint-pressure. Why is that okay, while the half-squats seem to be designed to avoid creating too much joint-pressure ?

I'm 76 years old very active woman - better shape than 40 year old; I would like to ask you by having PRP done then it's going to be ok for a year, by delaying the knee replacement I'll be older and would be difficult to have a surgery? What do you suggest ? I'm even thinking of Stem cell and what is your thoughts? Appreciate letting me know what you think. Also do you know someone in Denver Co? Thank you,
This is something that needs to be individualized and best discussed with your health care provider. The sports medicine docs over at University of Colorado Denver are great!
another therapist here on youtube is suggesting to only focus on your glute muscles. Please suggest which muscle we should focus? calves, upper thigh, lower thigh or glute? There are just too many excercises and many people having busy scheudle, like me , just cant even do any of them

hi,i have the worse pain in my knees, mostly my right side,i know its my weight gain,i use to be active until my knees started hurting and found out i had arthuritis in my knees,so when i went to therapy, she had me try to put my leg up behind me like inb your second move for upper front muscles, well i got the hardest most painful cramp and screamed out so loud,i stopped going because i was humiliated.how can i stretch my upper front muscles so that i can do this exercise? thank you
Should you do the stretches first? Science says to stretch after your workout is better. Also, can I ride a stationary bike to warm up first? Thank you.
Make a ginger poultice to use in the knee or any area of inflammation. Leave it on overnight remove the next morning and repeat again at night until the heat stops and area feels better. It works for any joint pain. And of course do the exercise’s mentioned above.
My left knee is recovering from gouty arthritis and I'm doing good now. But I notice that my left thigh muscle is sagging and looks smaller than my right one. What should I do doc? Thanks.
