Thanks for the vid - it's good. I have a mower with this exact motor and couldn't get it to run at more than an idle most of the time, unless I fiddled the Butterfly arm (pulled it out to the warm position even when the engine was cold). It would then run fairly fast but with dirty exhaust. Also, from your images I could tell that the Autochoke arm had jumped over the Butterfly arm. Turns out that it runs like a champ with the air filter removed completely; put it back on and it throttles right back. So a new air filter is on its way! Thanks again.
Very nice explanation, and good visuals showing proper function and alignment. Apparently the internal spring (thermostat) is broken on mine. It doesn’t remain or return to a fixed position, rather it’s all dangly. With no other interference from anything, wherever I place it, there it stays regardless whether hot or cold. You helped me out, so thanks for sharing!
Awesome, glad it helped. I think the only way to fix it is to get a new muffler but I'm not 100% sure. I tried to look for that part number, but it only showed a muffler.
Very helpful presentation, noticed missing butterfly spring and corrected. I can use my new lawnmower again after more than 2 month not using. I was going to recycle. Thanks to 2014 Corolla 👍👌😊
I was looking and looking for a video showing me exactly what you showed us on this video. I am totally happy and grateful for your awesome and very detailed video. You explained everything perfectly and understandable, the step by step description was very useful. Keep up the great work!!!! Oh by the way I got the mower running....thanks to u. have a great day
Make sure is kept clean & wd 40 lubricated all moving spring & carburetor linkages. That’s what I do with this unit. I just purchased a second one from year 2015 clean & lubricated it it starts & cuts like new. Also Becareful don’t flip this unit the wrong way or you will have oil all over…That’s what the guy which I purchased the 2015 did & thought it was no good & no good no more. This units are the best & good engines.
I have the same mower. my mower takes about 6 pulls to get it started, then putts for a few seconds and then runs great. restarts one pull. I cleaned the carb, clean the air filter , choke is closed when cold overnight . The only thing i did not replace was the spark plug because it will eventually start and run well. i am stumped? any ideas , thanks.
mower was revving high for last few yards. it stopped running yesterday. cleaned carburetor today. could not see tell if anything wrong with choke. mower started and is running but revving terribly. later found a small part that I guess fell off when I was fixing it. about the size of a penny with a little hole in it and indentions. is this my revving problem? is it connected with choke? no way to upload a photo of it, but a little smaller and thinner than a penny and made of metal.
Check out this video: ruclips.net/video/a7ANgJKJ8_g/видео.html He's taking apart a 550EX Carburetor. Maybe you can identify your piece there.. I can't tell without seeing it. Revving terribly sounds like the governor arm is not hooked up properly, or the auto-choke.
@@CleverFix I didn't see the video(mower is now gone), but greatly appreciate your concern. Throttle washer or something was the part. I am in the grass cutting business, so I went ahead and bought another mower. Very much hope the best for you. -Pat
@@Channel-nq7eo Ah, yes I was thinking it would've been a throttle plate or choke plate, but there are other tiny parts in there. Glad you got a working mower! If you keep having problems, a Honda Self-Propelled may serve you well. Those engines just keep going and going.
@@CleverFix thanks that helps with my trouble shooting. I have one with the butter fly that is closed and when I pull the recoil to start the butter fly opens then closes back
@@hphillips7425 You need a new muffler, or the spring/linkages are not in the right position if it's not opening back up when it's cold. It takes 30min-1hour or so to cool down and open up.
my mower stays on but while running the auto choke will just keep opening and closing giving it a rough sound or like a drag car thats cammed out. any idea what to check for?
Auto choke just opens with heat, I can't see how it can open and close. If its going high RPM then low RPM then high RPM, its probably just a clogged carburetor, I have a video how to take it out.
Excellent. How can I adjust the speed/rpm on a mower like this ? I have the same one, but find that it does not seem to run as fast as my old mower. How can the speed be increased on this exact engine - thanks ?
The engine speed is set by the governor arm spring. See Video ruclips.net/video/LvheGaTCpro/видео.html as he says, don't do that unless you HAVE to! If the mower runs fine, leave it. It's set at factory and should not be played with. Usually there is some other problem, like a carburetor starting to clog or valves losing their timing that causes the engine not to run right. Setting the RPM too high will overheat and damage the engine. I have a valve timing video too in case your mower is having trouble pulling the cord/starting, which indicates a timing issue. ruclips.net/video/rsE1X1PzmVI/видео.html
@@CleverFix thank you! It was a struggle finding a video like this. You wouldn’t happen to have a tachometer you recommend for a mower like this, would you? Ideally I would use a digital one but idk if that is feasible.
My mower starts easily, but WILL NOT restart when I change the mower bag. The engine is still warm, but needs a little choke to restart. Any suggestions?
I don't know why they switched to an auto choke system. The manual choke worked fine. This just adds more points of failure. The build quality is also getting worse. I just took the carburetor off one of these and it's almost all plastic. The previous owner had already stripped out the screws holding the bowl on because it screws into plastic.
Hey I'm no rocket scientist but on my pressure washer it has the same thing but the problem is that it works too good. When it's running it just keeps fluctuating up and down. I really am confused on why it does this. But even when its hot it continues

Thorough and concise explanation was able to help me switch out my carburator and adjust my self-induced bent choke arm.
Nice! Glad you got it fixed.
I learned a ton here without any nonsense. Thank you!

Thanks. My 8 year old mower may need a new thermostat, but now I'm better prepared to figure it out. Cheers!
Cool, Keep that mower running!

2014 Corolla you are right. Unfortunately, on my 650EX, it is part of the muffler.
The part number for it "thermostat" is 793498 but there may be different models.

I ran my mower into a bush and screwed up the choke and governor springs - thanx for fixing this for me !!!!

Just fixed mine, the butterfly was closed for too long, so I bent the wire linkage. All sorted now, thanks :)

How do you adjust the choke link if not right? Awesome video
Just squeeze or open the part where it's bent in a U shape with pliers.

Also keep in mind that every mower is different, and they don't all sound like same RPM. Bottom line, if it runs and cuts fine, don't play with it.
How does one “adjust the arm length”?
Squeeze the U Shape in the arm closer together, or open it wider. Only small adjustments are needed so adjust small amounts at a time.
