- A request someone made for me. It is evanescence performing a Nirvana song. The pics I used in this one are a little bit different that what I usually do. That's because I felt like this song wasn't as dark as the others, so I tried to pick pictures that weren't that dark. Plus, I added in a little video at the end. I hope you like it! Cheers! ^^
Both versions work in their own unique ways
Kurt's singing is _far_ more primal while Amy's is more soulful
And while Kurt is more emotional, Amy is more intelligible
It's different strengths
Still Kurt's is way more relevant.

I really dislike comments saying Amy Lee did a shitty job because its not like the original, or that she isn't Kurt Cobain. I think she knew that when she covered it. The thing about music is the difference between who wrote it and who listens to it and sings it. We all interpret and have different feelings from the original song. So whatever way Amy Lee wants to sing it, she could be interpreting it to suit her voice style; first off. And secondly, the song holds different meaning to her so she sang it suiting that feeling. Do we really all want to be the same? Didn't think so. I like this Cover. And ive been listening to Nirvana longer than ive ever known of Amy Lee/Evanescence.

God. Amy's vocals are always so spot on and mind blowing. And this song was actually meant to be a twisted love song. It was about how much he loved and hated love.
It's about not living to a mother's expectations, losing her, & wishing to have never been born because she died ("turned black") disappointed in Kurt.

It's really annoying how people compare her with Nirvana just because she did a cover. You know, she never claimed this song as her own, she clearly stated that she's doing a Nirvana cover. It isn't suppose to better Nirvana's version in any way. So stop picking on her as if she stole it! I, personally, like this version better because that's just my taste. This one is more darker and mysterious, and that, for some reason, really attracts me. xD

This makes me happy, I love Nirvana and Evanescence. I wish ignorant people would stop saying they did it "wrong". There is no correct way to interpret music, and the public domain twists everything anyway. I personally loved the cover, but if you didn't, please share your opinion in a respectful way. There is no need to tell everyone that it's terrible or it sucks. There is no correct opinion, and I certainly cannot keep you from sharing yours, so by all means hate away. Just don't be disrespectful while doing it.^^

I really love this cover! I think her voice fits this song well. People shouldn't be so upset about this cover- its not an imitation, its a cover for a reason. The original and cover are great in their own respects. I kind of wished this cover was longer though..

To all the haters, the beauty of doing a *COVER* to make the song your own. She did her own version in her own style instead of trying to outright copy what Kurt did. It’s in no way “better”, but both versions are *great* in their own way.

This is one of the BEST remakes of any Nirvana song ever! Amy's voice is so stong and haunting in this song. I envy her for her courage to show people who she is. But yet, I admire evey bit of her soul. And for all of you so called, "fans" out there, get a grip on reality. Amy Lee's voice is right up there with: Alanis Morissette, Adele, and the lead singer to Epica, and Within Temptation. So many people dish on Amy Lee's music just because she is an open song writer. Well guess what, Amy rocks!

This version is uh... decent I guess. Good effort though, but it's really hard to cover Nirvana because Kurt had that unique way of singing. His voice transmitted his state of mind, along with the lyrics. This version just sounds like she got dumped... Lana del Rey did a better job, at least it was better than this, but still not as good as the original.

I hope that this song doesn't turn you off from Evanescence, Amy has an amazing voice but as a long time fan, this cover was decent at most, although I didn't like Lana's version either. But Amy truly has an amazing voice, I suggest you take a listen to "So Close" or "Anywhere" by them.

It was a little too intimidating. What I love about Nirvana's original is really the intimidated factor in Kurt Cobain's voice, he really just sounds innocent and guilty when he sings. I felt like here, she tried to sing with almost more of a vengeance, like she was angry, and a song like this is not designed to be sung that way.
No one will ever be able to sing the same way as kurt, you should understand that the story change when the singer change too and i like to listen this version as i like to listen the true version because the words are the same but not the voice, the feeling !everything is fucking different! and you should not compare the two song, you walnut and all the other who think they can criticize

This song and numb and heavy is the only three songs. That is able to heal my pain. My dad is in the hospital. He was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. And my world is different right now.

As much as I love Amy's voice, this cover isn't THAT good. I'm not saying it's awful, but there are a lot of places that are painfully sharp. If she was a bit more on key, it would have been much better

i like this. i think it might have been better if shed gone with her signature high notes on the chorus, however.
People should stop saying "she ruined it" or "It's not as good as the original. She is not Kurt, she is Amy. That means when someone does a COVER it is just that, a cover! They have their own spin on it, and she has hers which I find very good. Both are good in their own way. It's not as good as the original because it is NOT the original and not only is she not Kurt, but she also isn't a man so she isn't going to sound anywhere like him. She is is awesome, and they aren't comparable.

I absolutely fucking love Nirvana, it's my favorite band ever. And I love when people attempt at/make covers of them, because it shows their love of Nirvana's music. However, a lot of people cannot pull of a great cover because Kurt's voice was pretty insane. I thinkk she did a fan-fucking-tastic job.

This is great, she did a good job on it and at the beginning it sounded exactly like nirvana but after that she put her own twist on it which in my opinion it was pretty good.
