HOLY MOLY I played the first movement >10 years ago and up to today I only remembered it was by Mendelssohn and I searched for it everywhere, finally I found it here! Omg your channel is such a blessing, thank you! Now I can sleep tight.
such great pieces! im beginning to rethink my critical stance on mendelson hearing these pieces played so beautifully. especially the scherzo is very charming and convincing
I like no. 1 the best. The transition sounds the best to me. I'm still learning the piano but this piece is one of my goals that I hope to accomplish one day.
7:45 I think it's inspired by Beethoven's Sonata No. 27 second movement. Schubert also wrote a similar piece, the second movement of his E minor Sonata
This is scherzo is well-known and well-loved for good reason, although many RUclips performances devolve into a race to see who can play it fastest, often sacrificing musicality. You should also check out the scherzo by Alexander Borodin, one of the very few pieces he wrote for solo piano. It's in a similar spirit but with the harmonic palate of the late nineteenth century of Russian composers like Rimsky-Korsakov.
Perhaps you would like to explain how fugues, for instance, are just harmony exercises, rather than complex works by a talented composer. Does your critical opinion include Elijah and Lobgesang?

I'm currently on it... that allegro vivace time signature is fucking scary
It is very pianistic and quite lovely.

Song?
Merveilleux pour apprendre à suivre la partition ! Merci !
The beginning part of this music always recall the melody of the intermediate part of Chopin's Scherzo No 4 in E major, Op.54
Anyone notice how similar those first few bars of the A major theme are to the hunting song in the 1st book of "songs Without words?"
Such a underrated composer
Mendelssohn underrated??!! Where is he underrated? He is No. 5 or 6 played composer in the world
@@r0mmmdon't be so statistic about it, everyone one knows how underrated Mendelssohn is.
Unendlich wunderschön 😮
The Wizard of Oz brought me here. (No. 2 used in the movie.)
Run Toto, Run!

Thank you for the references. :)
It is :D I had this in my music history course in uni
@@lpolonyi3186 I'm glad to hear that, Beethoven had a huge influence on the romantic era :)
No.3 has such a similar texture to Beethoven's Op.90 Sonata

The first one is way too quick! You killed the vibe at Allegro vivace!
I find no. 2 too much of a scamper. Taken a little more slowly it can have far more rhythmic energy and tonal variety.
It's supposed to be Presto
Mendelssohn' s times deutsch presto, also to each composer the tempo markings' meaning were subjective, not standardized at all.
No 2 is called a scherzo, which means “joke” I think this interpretations captures that well.
@@PieInTheSky9 Mendelssohn marked the tempo "Allegro vivace," not "Presto." You can see his original manuscript at imslp.org.
日本人👍
7:51 a C sharp in the bass in measure 6 would be much better I think
Sure, why don't you bring that up with Felix? Such a failure as a composer to not write exactly what you think is correct. Quite sad, really.
@@gabrielackerman3237 Yo chill, this was just what sounds better in my ears 😂
This Fanny, not Felix……right?
My Edition Peters copy says it is Felix and Wikipedia agrees, for what it is worth.
Mendelssons compositions are no more than elaborated harmony exercises.
I’m telling Dena and Dr. Macaroni
