You don't need to be a Muslim to read books on Hadiths and Sunnah, nor do I encourage you to change your faith, however, I encourage you to learn more about Islam, purely from knowledge point of view, and see if it makes sense and then try to implement these into your own life to see if it would give you peace and tranquility that every human being is looking for. There are many words in english which have different spellings in different countries..that'swhy US(eng) , UK(eng) and Aus(eng)... and more..are not same ...they differ in some spellings...

Handshaking and touching are only permitted in Islam between "those who are forbidden to marry" (Mahram). Even if he is a Muslim. - Eg:-Mother, sister, father's sister, mother's sister etc. should not be married to men and father, brother, father's brother, mother's brother etc. should not be married to women. That's why they refused to shake hands... not because the opposite party was a non-Muslim.
