Hindu as a religion doesn't have philosophies of atheism. There was no word called Hindu, it was Brahminism, and that is practice of caste. And all other religion and philosophies that these people call Hindu Atheism actually criticize brahminism and reject supremacy of Vedas. It has got nothing to do ritualistic Hinduism.

HI Vimoh, I am the Neo Carvak caller and I just wanted to clarify a couple of points.
    1. When I said atheism was possible under the Adwaita Vedanta school, I forgot to add that Adwaita vedanta considers the whole universe and all it's beings (including all the deities) to be maya/illusion. Therefore atheism is possible under the adwaita vedanta framework.
    2. When you questioned how the adwaita vedanta school was mainstream, I failed to elaborate how modern hinduism's unification is largely a result of sankaracharya and his teachings and efforts, such as establishment of mutts across India. His teachings became the new orthodoxy which resulted in the emergence of a unified Vedic orthodoxy.
    3. Hinduism is not merely the Vedic thought, Sramanic thought, or anything else. It rests on the principle of "Adhikara Bhedha" which is a theological term accepted by pretty much all the schools of Indian thought and it refers to the tolerant idea which allows for theological difference and all paths being equally worthy. Vivekananda had his own version of this which is "Jato Mat Tato Pat". Therefore my definition of Hindu is merely a negatory term which refers to anyone who does not condemn people holding other ideas to hell (or gulags for that matter).
    4. The Carvaka school of thought does not believe in the God, the Vedas, any supernatural beings and ideas etc. I believe in a modern version of the same school which takes into account modern scientific findings and other things. I still call myself a Hindu because Hindus consider me a Hindu. It is a pity that you fail to realise the tolerance of this particular community which allows within it's society such radically divergent views. My last point meant that when you said that the Carvaka school has no relevance to today, I should have elaborated that it does not matter that it was too long ago, because many ideas we currently have still exist today modified taking into account modern sensibilities and changes. This is healthy and it should be encouraged.

Allow me to say something on Hindu Atheists:
I believe Hindu Atheists do exist. Hindus are not struck to only one idea of God. Hindus are seekers and they are free to chose their idea of God and even develop their own one. A Hindu is free to worship God as formless or with form(idol worship) A Hindu is free to call himself agnostic. He can say that he doesn't know whether God exists or not, No one will cut his throat. Moreover, A Hindu can openly deny the existence of God and even can live within the folds of Hinduism.
No other religion allows such type of freedom where a person can openly deny the very base of that religion i.e. God and still live without threat. On the other side, Abrahmic religions punish you with death sentence for denying the existence of God.
Now a person who rejects the Existence of God what he will do in Hinduism?
Well Hinduism doesn't provide only thoughts of God but it provides lot of cultural values(sanskars) and opportunities(rituals and festivals) too. Touching feet of our elders is our cultural value. An atheist can live and cherish the Hindu values without agreeing to the existence of God. Many of my friends don't believe in God but they are living happily and they proudly call themselves Hindus. When they debate with us that God doesn't exist No one cuts their throats.
Hinduism existed since the very first person started thinking about God or the idea of God got its first shape. Vimoh is freely denying existence of God without any threat. Because He lives in a Hindu society. He doesn't need to shun all our cultural values for proving himself an atheist.

Oppression can be a shadow but sometimes asking a question about caste can just be a question related to curiosity or coming from a place of understanding. No?
I don't mind anybody asking me that honestly. And no im not upper caste hindu either. I'd probably ask them why they want to know and what their caste is and do they believe or subscribe to caste hierarchies. Get to know their intentions before answering.. Honestly, I'd probably be honest about it even if they had discriminatory intentions. But then again my lived experience has been free of caste related oppression so its not a thing that oppresses me or triggers me.
Personally i like to know people's caste or rather what community or tribe they come from to know their culture. But that's just me

Bro.. Thoda complicated hai. But i will focus mainly on people and not ideas in a book. Culture is the living proof of a community or peoples.. Their art, their ideas, behaviours, traditions and practices, their history. Within Hinduism there are many castes as you know, and each caste has its own culture. BUT caste and caste division is also the culture of hinduism/hindu people. So its like a cultures within a big culture..
On the surface it sound nice but the real world consequences of this have been oppressive and discriminatory and still continue to be that way. I believe this system may also exist in other religion and peoples in India.
Others can correct me if I am wrong or add to this

I've always noticed. The people who focus on the future are always more productive, more happier and more generally smarter than people who focus on the past.
I've noticed this about hindus and Muslims, they always seem to be reminiscent and nostalgic about the time in which even their great-great-great grandfather's weren't alive in, the "good old days" When their religion and culture was thriving (somehow in their nostalgic delusions).
and the result of their fixation on the past is failed states, poverty, lack of scientific advancement, backwardness, and just generally bad things.
Now Christians do focus on the present, that's why their condition is not as bad as the two mentioned above. But even they are now buying into this propaganda of those good-ol days when society was free of degenerates and people were more pious etc etc
Now jews do focus on the future: they are most future oriented people I know. They always talk about the future of technology, the future of human life and how we can prolong life, how we can become immortal through technology, can we reach other planets etc. And most of the brilliant people in history have been jews: einstein being the most famous example. Jews are also more intellectually oriented, listening to them talk about important topics always makes me learn something new.
Now this is what I've figured out: do you wanna be a loser who boasts about his past glory but has no achievements and good things in the present.
Or do you wanna be a future-oriented person who wants to solve problems, make the world a better place?
If you've read through all of this, then I wanna say thank you and may you have a good day/night.

Not to be a spoil sport but material conditions determine religiosity better than the other way around. A rich religious people are far less likely to be impoverished by religion, and a poverty-stricken atheistic people are far more likely to accept faith.
One argument can be made that religion is simply a means to keep the masses occupied in Feudal and capitalist systems so they don't revolt against systemic injustice and inequality. Direct beneficiaries of old capitalism and modern capitalism donate heavily into spreading their faith. Living heirs to long gone Indian princely states still donate to religious temples, in rituals and for customs. It is their way of keeping their place.

    • @thechannelthatdoesnotexist
      @thechannelthatdoesnotexist 10 месяцев назад

@@thomascromwell6840 well I wasn't implying that following Christianity or judaism simply makes you better than Muslims and hindus, I was simply making an observation that those are more better off because these people focus on future, nothing to do with their religious beliefs.
What you said is true, religion is a powerful way to keep the masses tamed and gullible. This whole Hindu-Muslim issue in politics is nothing more than a distraction from the frauds of billionaires.
Even in the case of Muslims, the mecca is maybe the second largest money making machine for the saudi kingdom (second to oil). The saudi kingdom is making its own country liberal and progressive, they are even allowing kpop concerts and less restrictions on hijab. Meanwhile they fund Muslim Missionaries and extremists to spread islam in more parts of the world so that there will be more Muslims to come to the pilgrimage in mecca, thus making them more money.
      It's always about money.
Money is the most important thing in the world. Even more important than your own faith.
