I think tile is the coolest option and is really the perfect solution to the substrate issue. And you're amazing for going so far as to sand any points off your accent wood.

If you have a lot of decorations in your tank for your axolotl, bare bottom is great and easy to clean! They won't get stressed out if they have stuff to grip onto lol.

I have a 10 Gallon Tank with a melonoid Axolotl, and I named him Prince. (A while ago I heard that some people call their gills crowns, so I thought it fit him) and he's about 7 months old. I've watched a bunch of your axolotl videos that helped me set up my tank for him. And he's doing very well, so I just wanted to say thanks 😊

Does anyone know much about tiles for the tanks? Do they sell these at pet shops? Are there types that are toxic to the axolotl? If someone could help me out with this that would be amazing! I love the look of the tiles
Hey Chloe! I got the tiles from the hardware store...I believe they're basic ceramic. Make sure you rinse them off, and if you want to be _super_ safe, you could try soaking them for 48 hours in a tub of water and then test that water to see if it affects hardness or acidity or anything ;)
Thank you so much! I will soak them for 48 hours just to be extra safe, rather safe then sorry! I spent hours searching for aquarium tiles like a wierdo hahaha, thanks soooo much!

Ik this is an older video but researching to get an axolotl in May. What type of filter is that and do you like how it’s been working? Researching sponge filters and such. Also do you just drop food in or do you use a syringe or tweezers and hand feed?
That's a sponge filter and definitely the type of filter I would recommend for an axo. For feeding, if I do bloodworms, I have a little glass bowl that I use and then use a turkey baster to put all the worms in it. And for earthworms, I use tweezers, just because their suddenness still startles me lol...but you could totally hand feed!

Did you do anything to treat/clean the tile before adding it? I noticed now you have sand. Did the tile not work out how you hoped?
In my school there where giving away some pretty ones of those and I did not want one bc I was not ready and I did not know what they need but thanks for the information that you provide and I love your videos I also have a turtle and a bird I have 2 turtles and I really love to see more information and learn a lot by seeing your videos and u help me make my turtles life better again love so much and thanks

Yup...it's a squeeze! I'm hoping to get some larger metal racks that are heavier duty than this one :P
I have a lucy too, I find that axolotls are kinda hard to care and I had to buy a chiller because summer is so hot here in Romania, they can get ill and get fungus if the water temperature isnt right, also if is above 25 C they can die, also another thing is about the water movement, they can get stressed by that and again to get ill, also another thing that you can add to your tank are moss balls, mine loves to move them around

I have a question my axolotl gills where chopped of by my fake tree in the tank as it was sharp it was bleeding non stop for about an hour can they regrow them even though there is no gills there for them to generate or can they just grow a new patch

Me, my dad and my brothers went to the pet store to check if there were any turtles. There was none but there were all kinds of other cool pets. A LOT OF FISH, quite a few birds that did cute sounds, a sleepy baby puppy, lizards, a snake, etc... AND THERE WAS AN AXOLOTL! It looked the SAME as Mochi. When I saw it, I said: "Hey! Look! It's Mochi! One of the turtle girl's pets!" My dad had NO clue about what I said. But my brothers had watched you a bit and ran to come see. It's way more interesting when you see it in person than on RUclips. Anyway, I find it's a really cool animal! :)

hello! im looking to get an axolotl and i have a question, how did you clean the tank/ accessories before adding the axolotl?
Great video and cute axie. You're doing everything right to take great care of that little guy, but just an FYI: I keep reading horror stories about axies that *jumped out of their tub* because it didn't have a top, or... it had a top but the axie pushed it off and ended up on the floor! Best solution is make sure the top is latched or there's a weight on top of it, so that cutie can't jump onto the floor.

I have albino and a grey only had them a few months so I'm still learning myself lol my 2 are named after Greek god and goddess. Apollo god of archery music poetry prophecy medicine and tyche goddess of good luck and fortune. Love them to bits tho xx

For the bottom of the tank could we use like the black sand that is kinda larger than sand but smaller than gravel. And then I put dwarf grass ? Could it still impact him ?
Sand should be fine, I just wanted to try something different ;) Some rooting plants might have a harder time in the sand though, so just keep that in mind!
