I flew on Air India 747's several times in the early 70's when Air India was considered THE best airline across the Atlantic for service.
Because it was in tatas hand but then nationalization killed it tatas are buying it again
Air india will rule again
wow !!
i would love to hear your story
now it is being retired and i will never get to see it .
@@utpalpatel3866 Dude, Air India was nationalized in 1953, so in the 70's it was already a govt. owned airline.
And so was PIA BOTH SCREWED THEMSELVES
Congo man tata regained air india
It is like a premium economy mixed with business class
diffrent world ikr
It’s the old version of the first class
This is classic first class
Is this first class or business class wihout entertainment facility?
So that means what? One gets a smile and he other a glance ?
In many ways I like the older, wider seats as used in this 747-400. I think many of the current gen. business and 1st class seats are actually LESS comfortable than those I flew in the 1980s and 1990s.
Paul Connors I do agree with you, the seats in the more modern a/c are a mere sliver of cushion compared to the older ones.
Yeah this looks far more luxurious than the cages they have today.
Of course the service was good, you were the only passenger in the cabin!!
He was not alone in the cabin.....
There was a lady behind him too
It looks more like a premium economy seat
MX03 I know right
It's emirates future premium economy but a but more modern
it's more like Lufthansa business class
MM03 dude, you can only expect that from
India ... :(
Cute Nyla you can only expect that from such an old plane....

Congratulations 🎉👏🎉👏 of being the top comment!!!! 😁😁😁
(As of now 😈😈)
Look at that leg room- a tall persons dream!
They did it so big cuz they thought americans or europeans r soooo big haha :D
My brother is 6.5 it's terrible for him to adjust lol 😂😂
not all americans and europeans r big though. Many of them r midgets too.
5:54 we can't forget the silk pillow
Indeed. My brother-in-law would love that, he's 6' 7".
I flew air india recently on an international route. The plane was little old and could have gone through "deep cleansing" of the seats and trays. Service was very decent and solid, food was 25% too much i.e. extra but good tasting. Overall, it was good value to the money and would fly Air India again.
I was fortunate enough to fly in one of these as a kid in the 90s. These seats were at the apex of aviation luxury back then. I really hope Air India up their game.
Those who are criticizing down in the comments , rarely fly and just want to bash Air India just for the sake of it.
I fly Air India very often and I've Never had a problem with anything.
honestly,it looks more like a business class seat
Nick Crompton yes
a low level business class + quite shitty meal
I would add - not even a low cost business class seat. They looked well used for too many decades; never upgraded or
reworked. Pity considering its the National carrier.
its actually domestic business class... you could experience Air India even more modern if you would have flew on an international flight.
tbh
Love it Dan, almost a retro flight and not to be forgotten and of course great Indian hospitality ..... I love the 747-400 and have many happy past memories of the pure size and beauty of this amazing aircraft .....
I'm Swedish and I like Air India first class for the price which is often comparable to european economy prices, but much nicer when I have to travel back and forth to India every other month. The modern planes and first class have full reclining seats and so far had very good genuine food. I have Indian family and travel a lot to Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Tripura and cook indian myself so I have a good frame of reference. Of course it does not compare to Qatar Business or QSuite, but neither does the price. Service as expected in India is close to that though!
Oh, and regarding the background music... They play instrumental in Air India lounges and flights. It's basically Indian elevator music which makes sense in the setting. You come off as ignorant yourselves attacking the "ignorant westerners". Instead of saying "That's not my India", show what is instead. Upload videos and show it from your perspective!
My questions to you Indians who don't fly Air India. Which Indian airline do you prefer? Vistara?
Vistara is the best one to fly nowdays.
Tripura?? Are u 4m tr?
@@chem1851 ani bihik tiprasa. kokborok swrwngwi tongo. nwngkhe?
IndiGo
I prefer Jet Airways or IndiGo .... Cause if you wanna travel the best premium economy , Jet is the best .... I don't know about Vistara cause I hv not flown in that
747 really is the queen of the sky. Im so glad for the few airlines purchasing them new in -8 configuration.
Johnathan Kain ja this is why I whant to Work for Lufthansa
Wow, those seats are very old. looks like a 1st class section from the 1980's.
thats why it is used in the domestic flights. only the 777 or 787 for international flights. :)
Oh yeah.. we indians are not even afraid of allowing a foreigner to shoot inside an aeroplane like americans.. ha.. ha.. lol..
Arun Ad well said.
You look so old that's you might be in back days
I thought the same man.
Many years ago I used to so love going up those stairs on a 747, still gives me goosebumps when I think of them.
Love from Pakistan to air India
Beautiful airport and airline 🇮🇳🇵🇰

That is dal vadha and it’s supposed to be super hard and you aren’t supposed to use a knife and fork for any Indian food, so don’t expect to cut through it.
THIS IS AN OLD PLANE. THE LAST ONE AIR INDIA HAS. KEEP THAT IN MIND

That was the kind of 747 my dad flew before his retirement in1979. It’s funny to hear how you call it a classic. It is but my idea of the classic, because I’m such an older, is the Lockheed Constellation where the first class was in the tail section. Nice work again, Daniel.
Honestly, the service level was that of a domestic flight. Air India is probably flying the paint off of their old 747's and getting their money's worth out of them on domestic flights before retirement. In the US, our domestic food service is pretty much the same for a flight that length with hit or miss on the quality of food. Older plane, but honestly not in any worse condition than a United flight domestically. I have seen other trip reports on Air India's international service, and it appeared MUCH better than this.
This was indeed a domestic flight.
@Air Mizrat Air India One is for the PM isn't it?
My first flight in my life was Air India.. Ahmedabad viaBombay to London Heathrow.. in 24, 2004 December. Amazing experience.. and I was only 17 and loved it...
good thing he just barely escaped the tsunami
4:51 "Wow I'm flying in a piece of history" GOT ME LIKE 😂😂😂
I actually like your channel! Hope someday I'll get to fly and review the Air India 747!
Craig Sequeira I want to Visit India Very Badly.. I absolutely love the foods also
there are tv screens for each economy seat but not for first class?
There are screens for first class
But economy's screen is better.
Craig Sequeira gh
Keeping in mind it’s a domestic flight... the Girst class seems amazing... compared to European biz class in the regional sector which is a sham
Reminded me of the 1970's flying Pan Am 747s
THIS is an aircraft from the 70's, I'm sure. it looks like it's stuck in a time warp; only the stewardesses have aged! AI is the only carrier I know, which employs 50+ year old stewardesses!
You seriously have the sweetest smile!
Lol why were the people staring at him when he was going through the cabin 😂😂
Because they were being filmed. I'd stare too 😂
Your respectful, optimistic and professional. Your videos are a joy to watch.
The screens in economy looked better than first class😂
12:42 she sounds like Chintu's mother in the Protegent meme
They're vadas and bondas 😂 and yeah they're hard meant to be eaten with our hands directly
Regardless, they could have served something much better, this is supposed to be first class
At least you got to experience this piece of nostalgia, hope you enjoyed it. I have flown first class once and it was with Delta, it was nice and roomy, but I don't think there was anything outstanding about the flight, free drinks and lunch and there was small bottles of water waiting as we boarded the plane. Anyway, nice to see you get to fly all these airlines and give us feedback on what you think, thanks for the input Nonstop Dan.
To all of you hating, this is an older aircraft that has been flying for a long time. Newer aircrafts from Air India offer much more and are on par with international standards.
Sid yeah but its not good that this is an option in the first place. Also most airlines dont still fly old shitty planes like this one these days.
GalaxyGamerX Yeah but its not the KING of the skies is it. That crown belongs to the a380 which is better in every way.
GalaxyGamerX it was good while it lasted but compared to modern day airplanes, it is a gas guzzler and airlines haven’t updated the cabin sooooo.....
As a PAKISTANI, I would love to travel on air India. They have so much legroom and the cabin is also way cleaner than PIA.
Oh so that's how old First Class compartment looked like 😂
30 years ago I smoked in 747 Air France first class. They even offer the cigarettes after meals
@Ye thank you for acknowledging your salt
@Ye thank you for clearing things up
Oh that is Bol na halke halke
That's my favorite 😍😍❤️
Wow, the queen of the skies which I love 747’s, and that “first class” seat, wow, super vintage! Haha
Already liked!!! Post notifications!!! What a beautiful aircraft!! As always, fantastic video!!,
Awesome! Thanks Armaan :)
I was on the Pakistan 747-400 airline on July of 1995 from Duesseldorf to New York and it was amazing and the service was excellent. My daughter was 11 month old and she was sleeping,my husband and i took a nap when i woke up my daughter was gone. The flight attendant came towards me and says that she woke up and she gave her the milk and put her on a blanket and i could see that she was playing with two other small Children. That was just great very good service
Love the detailed look of the lounge and food in it.
I love your impression of what indian background music should sound like.
am an indian and i strictly avoid air india 😛😄😄
OMG! You STRICTLY avoid Air India!

What an experience, a true trip down memory lane. Vintage! Takes me back to memories of first class on Continental's DC-10 to Australia, about 1981 (way before you were born). No lie-flat sleeper seats back in the day, but the meals and wines were great. Your day was a lucky equipment swap!
That's the most crappiest first class I have ever seen.

Good that you did not have any delays . Because air India is one of the king of delays

I am sri lankan...but did they just put bhol na halke...on the boarding of the flight...? Woow
Yes
This is domestic not international
Very nice 👍 keep up the good work. Really njoy watching your videos. Surprised to see Air India use a 747 for a domestic flight.
Legendary AI aircraft. Flying since 1993
I'll tell you something, many many years ago I flew Air Lanka (Sri lanka airlines) business, when I landed (from UK) at Columbo, all the business class gets off first (no first class) and I'd dropped my sunglasses, I was looking around fro them around 10 minutes or so, found them, then stood up to see the FA had been waiting patiently by the dividing door, HOLDING back the econo passengers, all just waiting for me, I of course apologized and move on quickly, but she just stood there waiting for me, not in a rushed way, that was part of the service that the customer especially Bus,.class was right. Never forgot that A/lanka service was the very best, the planes where old, the food was great and the service OUTTA this world, SO......... your video reminded me, the old layout.... nice
Wow that's a retro plane alright! It brings back memories of when I traveled on TWA 747s! I hope that was burned toast and not the engine! Glad the flight was safe! Lol they need to retire that plane!🙏💙✈😎
Diane Crowder nothing can match airbus a380
Sheila Dey a boeing 747-8 can ;)
Sheila Dey wow I wouldn't know never experienced one but my mom did last year when she went to Australia!❤😎
Diane Crowder I went from Dubai to London with etihad first class it was amazing experience 💋
Brother it is a govt plane
What a great video Dan. Looks like you had the whole of First to yourself! Fab to see a retro 747 400 still in service...amazing you can take a domestic flight in First Class...keep up the good work, I love your trip reports...
Looks more like air France premium economy than air India FIRST CLASS
ROY DAVIES I’m waiting for a comment like this and THANK YOU
I flew economy always in Air India and until 2018 I'd say it was good for the price. But the service has always been declining over years. Back in 90s I loved it.
1:35 ... Are we in a first class lounge or a prison cell with a nice bed
😂🤣
You had the whole section all to yourself. No one else was in the first class. That's great.
Thanks for sharing! Can't wait to fly to India now to visit my relatives :). Btw, I really like the quality of your camera, what sort of camera is it?
Love that sound of the huge apus, and loud soothing rumbling in flight. B747s was a great product of engineering with so many redundancies, heavy seats and a metal tube. Ever wonder why star trek always had that rumbling noise in the background? So sad it is going away with all the new quieter aircraft.
Air India is amazing when it comes to food and leg room in the Economy cabin for a tall person like me. It is definitely better than most of the Indian carriers and hopefully in the near future it gains its lost glory on the international market.
Obviously you have not travelled on other carriers. The service is lousy. Everyone who takes it regrets it.
@@rupenshah1534 please understand before judging. My comment was posted 3 years ago and I understand that at present AI is not one of the preferred carriers. Having said that they will regain their lost glory as it’s back to its rightful owner. I’ve been travelling since the age of 3, so yes I have flown all the major and minor carriers worldwide and didn’t restrict myself to AI only.
This is how flying was back in the glory days. It’s great that Air India still has this configuration but it’s sad knowing this will come to an end very soon.
That private lounge looks like a goddam prison cell
LOL! It does.
You've got a new subscriber! I love this video!! Can't wait to watch your others!
He is being too kind.
stfu
Veena fusion music during landing was awesome actually but the music during the lounge part at the beginning... well it’s the equivalent of someone plucking random notes on a banjo and banging a drum set and calling it American music
that plane is the only plane which has working TV's on economy class other air india's plane doesn't have any TV or they have hided it with some more cloth on the seat even in buiesness class they have no tv
Air India used to be one of the best airlines before the Indian government nationalised it. The Tata Group, which was the founder of the airline is in the process of buying it again since the government has decided to privatise it now. Fingers crossed that they turn it into an amazing product once again
You steal safety cards???
It’s really wrong to steal safety cards.
I’m sorry but that looks more like business class rather than first class;not gonna lie loving that leg room though !
Bro u somewhat look like guru randhawa...😂😂😂...made in india lagdi hai...😆😆😆
I remember flying 747's when they were still flying domestic in USA; first half of 1970"s when I was a kid. They had a spiral staircase to the second floor. Back in 1974, the stewardess (flight attendant) brought be up and showed me the cockpit while flying. At this time, the second floor was just a small lounge. This was just five years after the 747-100 and 747-200's were first put into the air; the first wide bodies with the DC-10 and L-1011's another great plane. Yeh, we didn't have all of this tech stuff of today, but flying was much more fun and convenient. Oh yeh, we had metal utensil to eat with in coach plus more leg room. This was history for the 747's.
I'd love to see an immediate follow-up video of Dan having massive gastrointestinal distress as he exits the airplane due to Air India's "cuisine."
Great video! I will miss the 747, it would be amazing if that Air India plane could tell the stories of its life. I love being able to look from one side of the 747 to the other and see the amazing view through the big windows and the slight curve of the wall! She will be truly missed. 😣
Welcome to Chennai :)
I work in the industry and when it comes to food and prep, many (not all) airlines tend to dime and nickel and you won't find them hiring people who are knowledgeable, travelled and know the passengers. As long as there is something cheap on the plate, that's all they are worried about.
I actually really like Air India, and LOVE Delhi airport!
No matter how bad the seat or the food is, as long as she’s a 747-400, I’m not gonna complain.
Just telling but first class while traveling in an international flight in air India is quite good
Dan, have you ever flown any old Tupolev from any of the old Sovjet states? Azerbajan Air, Kyrkistan International Airlines or Georgian Air Services? If not, try to do it at least once in your life. Their First Class Service's (no business class, so just Coach and First) is something you will NEVER forget.
Yes air india is gonna scrap the 747 pretty soon as it’s gonna be replaced by 787 or 777
Air india must change their cabins . i mean look at that ! That doesn't look like a first class seat . It looks like a premium economy but worser . and also last year i travel to india and the aircraft smells bad .I'm not gonna say what kind of smell it is but you already know it . I know some people say it's racist but IT'S THE REALITY ..
They should not focus on uprading the airlines fleet . they should focus on how they can improve service and avoid negative reviews . what's the use of a new 787 or b777 if the airlines First class still looks like the one on the video ? i'm pretty sure no one would be proud right ?
Zulu Pyro
Thats why I hate air India I live in India but I love western airline.
@@zulupyro6445 Yeah, in their newer aircraft, it is outdated. I remembered how bad the executive class in AI's business class in the 787. Even the milkman that goes to deliver milk to my grandfather's house will know you can put IFE screens in the back of the seat. This comes from an Indian, stuck flying in a flight that is most of the time, overbooked.
@@watershed44 Westerners don't like spicy food. Try to bear with it lol.
You may have been in First Class, but the food you were served looked less than impressive. The seats reminded me of the old days of First Class in the 747. Thanks for sharing.
You aren't suppose to cut through kachori tho 😭😭 suppose to eat it with hand bro lmaooo
But, what if you have no teeth?
Liche Christ then drink it😂😂😂😂
Flying from LHR to JFK via Indian airline in the early 90s was a nightmare. People were just sitting where they wanted to causing turmoil. The plane smelt of the toilet. They had trouble shutting the door. The staff were rude and unhelpful. If you asked for a drink they gave you a paper cup and poured water into it. The seats were so squashed together. The food wasn't very good. It was a nightmare.
Air India is terrible. But $250 is quite cheap for a 2+ hour flight. Also there is nothing like First class in Air India. They brand it as Executive Class. Its more like business class. You dont really have good business class seats with such legroom in other domestic flights at this price. So I would say this is a really good deal. I would never fly Air India but might consider flying its executive class at this price point. For International flights never even think about it.
BTW economy price for the same flight is around $40
Hey ! You can openly disregard & Abuse Air India ! No need to sound like I hate it so much but for the sake of video I love it ! Haha
is it first class in a domestic route.
Yes
Hold up, hold up, hold up. That dish your eating is a traditional Indian snack, designed to be eaten with your bare hands. If you refuse to eat it how you're supposed to, then I don't think you can comment on how hard/easy it is to eat.

Dantorp Aviation oh sorry I thought you took this airplane video like couple of weeks ago thats cool !
This is an "old-fashioned" first class - back when the only difference was that the front of the plane reached your destination first. (And sometimes they served free alcohol.)
We are trying !
It will take time✌
I flew air india 🇮🇳 from melbourne to delhi on dreamliner 787 in economy class. I did really have wonderful experience. Leg room, cleaning, food, service everything was excellent. I don’t know why mostly indians always complains about air india. It was one of the best experiences i had in 7 years of flying.
A weak First Class. Let's hope that the rest of the fleet is better.
gbriank1 its an old aircraft. 747 is virtually almost retired from almost all the fleets in the world.
There are a few stragglers hanging on, at least in commercial aviation.
A few months ago I had the chance to fly a 747-400 from Lufthansa on an domestic flight within Germany (Berlin Tegel - Frankfurt which is a 50 minute flight). They only used it there for a short period of time because Air Berlin went bancrupt and therefore the demand increased for other airlines. Still I was very surprised when I saw that big girl, because I didn't expect it.
Was sitting in the very last row and talked a bit to a flight attendant. Short but fun flight even though it felt quite bumpy back there during the approach.
gbriank1 It's a freeking 747-400.The Plane of the 90-s.
The carbon-turbofan-aircrafts are the planes of today. And aluminum-preturbofan-aircrafts are from yesterday. But what will come tomorrow?
You really need to fly Air India First long haul before it disappears. From San Francisco flying to Delhi is quite wonderful, with tons of personal service.
Really? I kinda hope this is clean??? No they are going to give you a bug infested blanket.... they at least gave you a bed.
Kunal Chhabria: In a jail cell!!
Guys, he is flying domestic and generally domestic flights don't have first or sometimes even business class.
hows d smell?
India wants to stay close to the traditions of the past which is why the first class looks like the one from the late 1970-s.
