- In this episode we chat with @DriftJesus about modern drifting topics, and just have a nice conversation about stuff. We talk about Chelsea Denofa quitting Formula Drift, cheater tires, drift cars, drifting, engines, and all kinds of subjects. Please enjoy a silly podcast about drifting!
As a beginner, it was great to hear him talk, even if he goes on multiple tangents. He covers a lot of nuances and questions I wouldn't even know to ask.
Thanks!

@DriftJesus you're the man, Wout
Question: you said nobody would use a Durometer to check the tires in FD for obvious reasons
What is the obvious reason? Please excuse my ignorance
@@redneckpotatoe not FD, no series does that. If you'd say, softest TW allowed is 200, many many tires would fail that in the past
@@DriftJesus I genuinely enjoyed this conversation and had a few laughs
These long form discussions are awesome
Thanks!
@@DriftJesussuch a great window into American drift culture. Thank you Aaron
I could watch 10 hours of you and Wout talk, it is so amazing to hear such a depth of knowledge. No clickbait, just dropping gold nuggets of knowledge
Too kind sir
I could listen to Wout share his thoughts for 12 hours straight and not get bored. ❤
@@OctavChelaru too kind!
Bro make this channel a podcast channel. This was gold
why limit the channel to podcasts when they can post other stuff? lol
Let him fucking answer
Aron is usually the one talking more
Ive never laughed so hard watching a podcast😂 I am smacked and its hilarious watching him so passionately fall into different topics. I lost it when he started talking about jesus speaking dutch and then seeing Aaron getting frustrated with all the rambling😭😂
@@IfcproductionsLLC haha thanks.
I could listen to this all day
This guy is the best guy to listen to in drifting. I’ve never laughed hard and stayed so engaged 😂
RELEASE THE FIRBIDDEN FOOTAGE. also come drive with us in poland again (drove with you on seduced event in poland quite a few years back).
Yes!!!! Please 🙏
What forbidden footage?
Loved this conversation.
Being from Europe and visiting the USA often for work I can agree with everything that Wout mentioned concerning the differences.
Also I think drifting is more known in the USA, mainly because there are more events.
All "grassroots" drift events in Belgium, Netherlands and Germany are only on wet tracks due to noise restrictions. In France you might find some on dry track but even those are diminishing.
For me to find a decent drift event on a dry track that's not a competition and requires a fully built car with all necessary safety equipment is super difficult. I would have to go to Spain, Poland or UK. All those events are at least a 12-15h drive.
As for dry entry level competitions, there is (as far as I'm aware) only the Nürburgring drift cup.
Also because you can street drive the cars that you use on drift events in the USA you don't have to choose between, do I pour all my funds into a fully built drift car that I can drive maybe 4-6 times a year or do I keep it as a street car and build it as far as the law allows me. That, the purchasing power and not having the restrictions on what you can and can't modify on your car. Makes the entry into building a drift car lower in the USA and a more easy choice. In my country you for instance can't even have roll cage in your car if you cant to street drive it.
Just come to sweden. Theres drift events every 2-3 weeks in the summer
Love these interviews/ podcasts things lol you and wout always have such interesting conversations because you guys have such different perspectives than eachother but also so similar so it always makes for a great conversation
Thanks!
Let the man ramble. We’re here for the nuance and long format.
This was incredible. Give us more Wout !!!
Wout is like the old school cats from my work. You go to them with all the questions, lol.
26:58 😂 the note
lmao. love how this guy just talks himself way off topic until you have to interrupt him to get him back on topic
Its Aarons fault
I think that many of the things Wout says about EU drifting works slightly different for Poland though. Like the fact that the grassroots scene here is quite big. Of course “grassroots” has a little different meaning because it’s less seattime/driving technique focused than in the US but that probably all comes down to money and how expensive it gets. People work with what they have so There’s a lot of close to stock BMWs or more style driven events cause it is still cheaper to build a nice looking car and drive it on a few events during the year than to have a seat time / performance driven car and drive it regularly. The stuff he said about the drift car recognition by a random person on a gas station is probably a little different too. I think that there’s some level (not comparable to the US) of awareness I’d say not always for the good reasons though. And the same applies to the street driving the cars. The lack of money to let’s say operate it properly by having the trailer etc makes the people enjoy it the way they can even if it comes with possible consequences of having troubles from the police etc (which is fortunately still less troublesome than in the Western Europe). So you’ll see a fair amount of “grassroots drift spec” BMWs on the streets…
Just a couple of thoughts 😅
Poland is awesome for drifting, and I mention that too in the vid along with Ireland. However Ireland and Poland combined are less than 8% of EU. Also , grassroots drifting is not the same as drifting car culture. The actual drifting thrives with a big amount of tracks. Ireland has Mondello only to my knowledge and Tullyroan oval. Polish I know less about, but I doubt its comparable to USA track availability. For instance in 2 hours from our FD team in Cali, there are three tracks I could go drift any day I want. Further away there's Irwindale for events, there's Sonoma and I'm in Vegas in 4 hours. Texas has year round events in the Houston area with Aaron. In Europe the problem simply is affordable track space, correct me if I'm wrong but Poland, with all its amazing drift culture , drivers and car love doesn't have too many drift tracks you can go to any time.
3:27 [Looks at the run time, 1:19:54] AH HaHaHa!
As someone that had to destroy fasteners in college, to put it into terms used. It's not the suburban hanging-on force, it's the motorbike slamming into the side subjecting another load not intended for the fastener designed/intended use. Countless unforeseen factors. Even low grade bolts can hold a good size load, if used as designed. Still sometimes people worry bout bolts breaking in an app, when it's the material they screw into that could fail easier LOL
1:03:56 i had an aftermarket suspension bolt fall out of my corvette driving down the highway and since then i use a torque wrench on all my suspension bolts and then mark them with paint

@@LoneStarDrift I’m already up to date on all of them. I absolutely love this channel.
Love these chats! Wout ftw.

I like the idea of FD being more of a spec series as far as same tires for everyone. Expensive for FD to provide but maybe different tire brands at different rounds? I'm thinking like F1 where they all have same tire and have to run within a certain psi range. Or just cap the HP
Dude needs to travel more to talk about Europe. Norway, the Baltic countries, especially Poland, Hungary - there’s a lot of drifting going on, spain is picking up too
I have clients all over europe and for many years and visited many places. I'm talking about -grassroots-. People have no idea of the size & frequency of USA grassroots.
Really hope aaron finds a good video editor if he can make it work. This video has a little bit of age but still has great conversations just wish it came out earlier to match the current climate of drifting. Keep up the videos though!!
I now wanna sell my angle kit B for angle kit A now after listening to this 😅
Best drifting i have seen in long time is lz fest were it is road tyre and the drifting speed from outside doesn't look crazy different and alot closer
@@e.3-0_m3 yep, also depends on the track. But at Mondello it was great
@@DriftJesus ya that is true mondello is were I was talking about ... I understand inside the car it feels more insane with sticky tire but the difference from outside not worth it for how many mistakes people are making this year
UK drift scene is slowly picking back up! Too many issues to list as to why it's not on the same level of US in terms of having a long lasting drift series, there's certainly been a shift in a good way though!! More content like this!
Yes damnit he better post them
As a finn who's been drifting for 7 years now, finland/poland/estonia/sweden have a big grassroots drifting scene car wise, but not a lot of tracks to drive on! Its the biggest problem that there is! theres a bunch of big hp drift cars and stylish cars at makosa matsuri/next level poland and drift madness for example, but thats about the only matsuri style events the countries has got.
no one wants to start doing regular events because no one is getting enough money from them. Local smaller tracks that would be used for grassroots stuff in the us are usually used for rallycross and have unpaved corners and the bigger tracks dont allow drifting, big car park tracks dont exist as there are no big empty car parking lots. Thats why you see a bunch of streeto stuff from the baltics/nordic countries but not a lot of events.
Great conversation, more more more
There are always those who will creatively break the rules. Happens in all forms of racing, makes the clever counterfeiters A Lot of money! I'd bet a few tire CO's have molded tires with a better compound, labeled as a lessor, for their team LOL
Not to mention tire treatments, circle track guys had a tub setup that would rotate the tire as it soaked.
@@BOOT there's always a lot involved in tires. It's where large companies meet a relatively small sport. So its never easy.
Air more drift jesus! Loved the vid!

This definitely helped me a lot and i enjoy the long format, I'm just starting to compete soon and barely got into getting the suspension and drift components, wisefab > fdf and pbm, got it 😂

Always enjoy hearing what wout has to say. Hes right abiut the engine swap horsepower running gear the suspension phases. Guess its the same path drag cars took in the early decades of the sport
@@1jzfc999 thanks for the support!
Ireland has a great grassroots scene with the driftgames invitational weekends, ts drift days, jdm classics days and bishopscourt have nearly monthly events up in northern ireland.
But for the average guy like myself at 29Y/O at 1:12:48 it costs a small fortune so you need a good job or lots of overtime to do even 3/4 events a year. I would say the average drift weekend would cost me nearly 1500-2000 euro/dollars if not more after entry fees, drift car fuel, tow car fuel, tyres, spares, travel costs and accomodation. And i drive a basic enough e46 330ci with cut knuckles and extended arms that i made myself. You cant street drive drift cars here(atleast legally) as your insurance would be voided with even basic modifications so you need a car/pickup/van and a trailer.
So any person drifting in ireland even on a budget is hustling like fuck to be able to do it. The cost of getting into even grassroots stuff is crazy expensive nowadays in a country with an already crazy cost of living
Does anyone know who that youtuber is thay put on a Driftmasters tire against a pro Driftmasters driver? TJ? Adam? Piotr? I wanna see that video.
It wasn't broadcasted the way I described it, YTer told it to me. The video was about something else, just happened to be this situation.
@@DriftJesus I still would want to check out the video. Can you give me a name/link?
@@fifthgear93 I can't sadly, all that stuff is told in confidence and revealing who they are could cast negative publicity for them / their partners. Anyways the video is not about that subject at all, they just found out during the shoot.
@@DriftJesus I understand.
Ireland had its first drift even 20 years ago, there has been a decent Irish drift series a long time. We've pro and semi pro now a good few years, it did peak when Dave Egan took it over for a few years and it was top notch, now it's got redbull sponsorship and probably do better. But it's hard cause 4 of our top lads are in Europe now. Which is good and bad. Did James Deane get better tires?
I love the wout videos
I love this
Im trying to get a track built in South Mississippi cuz driving to florida for an event is really getting old

Wout is the man
Define what a profitable drift team is? Every drift team that I can name that "makes a profit" does so because of a product they supply whose audience is in the market of drifting.
Does Odi make a profit? Yes from feal, not drifting. But you can argue that his drifting is the reason that company succeeds.
RTR makes a profit selling mustang conversions, same thing like Odi, marketing is drifting, the product is not drifting.
I would say that forsberg is the closest example to let's say a NASCAR driver. While he does not have any car related products, he sells his brand, and is able to make a living selling his brand to companies that sell car products.
Post em!

Wout is correct in saying that the European grassroots scene is pretty much non existant with one massive exception - Russia. Drifting in Russia is huge with a scene comparable to that of the United States with a few exceptions. In Russia street drifting is king.

I feel like he’s talking about fdf in this topic @47:50 lol. I like my fdf but he definitely sounds very knowledgeable so I’ll believe him
Is he? I was wondering as well. If so, is this something we should be concerned about?
@@dan1906 SLR also offers colors I believe. Regarding FDF, Jossiah seems like a very commited and knowledgeable person. I do not have any direct experience with them but I've viewed them as one of the premier angle kit brands. It is odd however how Adam switched from FDF to the SLR kit mid season on his blue E36. You can clearly see Adam's team installing SLR on the newest build even though they were running FDF on the original car before the crash.
@@fifthgear93 A sort of gold/platinum is FDF's default color and green is their theme color. This seems to coincide with the references in the video. With that, what was LZ's motivation for changing angle kit manufacturers? Maybe it was a matter of availability. I couldn't find anything via a typical search. I would really like to know.
@@dan1906 good point. I noticed Adam switched to slr as well but definitely could of been availability as it does take 3-4 weeks to arrive. I love my fdf setup and have no complaints. I run it on my 2jz s13
