*[Additional commentary]* - Flow is a lot better but still not perfect; I've listened to the BGM far too many times for me to keep optimizing with sanity though. - Because the early levels are very slow, it's rather hard to stay on beat in creating this TAS, since there's so many frames between each beat to pick as the action frame. - Level 8+ requires frame-perfect input to get a pass on a particularly fast part. It took quite awhile to figure that out during the TAS creation - At game selection, there's a reason why I had to shift page to get to the "other stuff" button. This TAS actually uses my personal save file, which was left at that offside page. I was too lazy to fix that or download a finished save file. This also means my personal save file is on TASVideos now, since it's packed with the TAS movie file. If I did this TAS with no save file we would have to sit through the introduction, which could take a while!
Remembered this video after playing a bit of RH ds and took me maybe around 7-8 minutes to get past level 8+ Even had to check this video to confirm if the bpms match. The margin for error is very slim but possible!
If you're talking about 4:28, I had to setup the inputs there to be FRAME PERFECT... like move any of them off by one frame and it fails. Even the flick swipe had to be extremely quick, and it took me a little bit to find the right frames. This minigame is ruthless.
Great video! One thing that kind of bothered me though was your method of finding the true tempo, as it’s actually ambiguous; a small range of possible tempos would return the same “true tempo” under that method, some of them only barely squeezing in the right number of beats and others only barely missing what would be an extra beat
First time I did this I got to the beginning of 4 I have no rhythm so that made me very happy. I even managed to get to 6 or 7 Nowadays I probably wouldn't be able to get to 3 anymore :p
*"I am so suspicious of tempos with decimal points in them because to me it represents someone who's more concerned with being precise and right, rather than musical."* I remember thinking about that too while making this video. When I found out about the tempo being stored in RAM I was originally going to just display what value was being stored there. I did the extra work because I noticed a tempo difference between what's tracked and what I calculated -- I played the tempo tracked in RAM on my metronome and it drifted quite quickly. I wanted to highlight that in someway. Perhaps I could've rounded (it would've looked cleaner in hindsight), but *I was going at this from the perspective of a programmer-like analysis, in which I was more concerned with getting it right.* My main goal at the time was also to get the tempo precise enough to play it on a metronome and not have it drift when playing along with the video... which I admit I could've gotten easier on the precision anyway (or just not included the calculated tempo at all). I am more programmer than musician afterall (also thx for reminding me to check out an Adam Neely vid that I missed)

Wouldnt it be more accurate to maybe record the music and detect the BPM with some audio software or DAW?
