  • Our trip from Cape Tribulation in the Daintree Rainforest to Cooktown.
Cooktown is pretty much the last town in the Cape York region that has paved roads - and 30km of the road to get there is unpaved.
We did this in dry season so the water levels in the creek were low but the Bloomfield Track is still fascinating to drive on and placeslike Wujal Wujal and Ayton are stunning!

This is my old stomping ground. I walked that track in 1982 before it was bulldozed (there was an old track there for years). Years later I worked for a Cooktown bus company and drove 22-seat Toyota Coasters up and down there in the dry season. The Den was our local, even though we lived in Bloomfield. The place was smashed during the recent rain and I wish I could be up there helping. But I'm in Brisbane...I'll be back up there next year though. It drags you back with its beauty and freshness. You've probably seen the footage but most of Wujal Wujal was under water. The Lions Den had water nearly to the roof.
