Nanci had been living in Ireland about 50% of each year since 1989 until she pretty much settled in Nashville around ‘98. Man, this loss has me reeling. She was an enormous part of my musical tapestry since 1983, when I discovered Once In a Very Blue Moon. Rest In Peace, beautiful soul..
@@krummcutie Listened to her live at an out door concert here in Utah at one of the resorts up in the mountains.........couldn't afford tickets, but me and a friend sat out side the fence and listened to her concert!!! It was magical....she was such a wonderful story teller, singer /song writer!! She'll be poorly missed!!! She was my age!!
Roger Daltry. What a star! Thank you for sharing this beautiful segment and bringing Nanci to shine her light on stage and bring her lovely voice to our ears. Beautiful collaboration. Thanks to all the artists involved in these works. Thanks to the Lord for bringing forward some voices of light in an industry that does all it can to wipe it out generation by generation.
OMG..... Behind Blue Eyes.. saw one of my favourite bands The Who in 1973(Texas)and that song floored me then as it does now !The Chieftains are simply amazing A West of Ireland fan living in NYC
What a very very very powerful song if you really listen to what Pete Townshend has given us all. This is a great version but nothing can top the WHO doing it live on stage.
She Doesn't need any back or sounds, she does Better all on HER OWN,...What a woman, what a voice, Did you notice that when others join in, It just corrupts the music? Beautiful Piercing sound comes out of This Wonderful Woman....~!!!! Love to you Nanci~!
Thanks for that. How lovely that she wrote a song that was then taken to be an Irish standard. It’s wonderful to see these videos on RUclips that we would never have been able to see. Thank you. 🥰
Haven't heard the Chieftains in many decades. And who didn't love Nanci! It is sad to hear Roger's range shrinking, 30 years ago. Oh well, it happens to everyone...
OK, this is a very good Chieftains lineup! Martin Fay was still among them, The rascal Derek Bell also. The droll Sean Potts and the schoolteacherly Michael Tubridy had long since departed, as had Peadar Mercier. But Kevin Conneff and Matt Molloy were more than capable. And then...Nanci loved performing with them, except during the tour with that rascal Ashely MacIsaac, who wore nothing under his kilt and enjoyed displaying his package to the audience when he jigged. Not making this up -- inn Canada, we produce some real wild musicians. Ashley's just one of 'em. Apparently, Nanci was not amused when she had to go out on tour with them and Ashley. Well, don't know what he's doing now. He was a good step-dancer and fiddler, I'll give him that! Nanci -- words cannot express. The Chieftains -- love 'em forever Amen!
Nanci loves the Cheiftans but that guy bugged her a little, as a perfectionist, she looked over at him when he did not sing the correct notes/ harmony. And the fiddler caught her look and he briefly tilts head over at the idiot as if to say WTF did u just do to our Precious!!
I'm not so sure it went like this. It is evident that Nanci has a slightly "tight" look and it maybe that it reflected a psychological condition of her during that period, but I see that she smiles for her colleagues. And if by chance that boy had made a mistake and Nanci had looked at him to scold him, but do you know how I would like to be wrong for a look of Nanci??
downtime86 stars The point is that Leno flubbed it. Rolling Stone called her the queen of "folkabilly" which I guess is meant to be a play on "rockabilly". But Leno flubbed it and said "folkability" instead. Note the extra 't'.

It has been a total shock and depressing news of her passing. A voice such as hers shall never be heard again. And we are all poorer for that.
Didn't know that! She had some beautiful collaborations with the Chieftains.
@@janetchandler7757 Her voice is still alive and well. At least in the digital world!
@@jondoe8889 This is true. Been downloading some of her music already.
And I lived in Austin, Texas, where she lived the other half of the year! I adored her! This is such a beautiful ballad…
R.I.P Nancy, your angel's voice now sings in the Choir Majestic.
God bless RUclips for the opportunity to see videos of Nanci Griffith... she is an American treasure...
Roger Daltrey is also an English treasure...
Amen.

I had never heard Nanci singing this song. The purest of voice- just a beautiful folk voice. RIP Nanci Griffith. You touched so many people's heart's.
Lovely little trip down my lane of memories with Nanci and the chieftains - sing with the angels sweet Nanci x
Nanci - with the pure, melodic angelic voice who was our gift for a time!
Great 8 minutes, to Nanci Griffith and to other fine musicians on this stage who are no longer here.
So grateful I got to see Nancy with the Chieftains and Ashley McIssacs.
Saw wonderful Nanci many times. Never got through a concert without tears rolling down my cheeks.
pplu6543 I’ve always wanted to see her live; not sure I’ll get the chance, but I imagine I’d cry too. She was such a big part of my teens

Love that Iris Mushic. Folkability is really great, too.
Paddy looks just as happy to be playing with Daltry as with Nanci. Great to see you too Derek Bell!!
Once again, thank you RUclips.
I havent heard Nanci sing this since my best friend died in 1993. She has to be singing with some old pals now.
Dear RUclips please get out of the politics' game and give us more content like this.
"Little Love Affairs" isn't an Irish standard - it was written by Nanci (lyrics) and James Hooker (music).
I was just gonna say...

DAM! I was hoping to see Roger and Nancy sing together.
Oh, the Chieftains...my stories about them would fill a book. "The Queen of Folkability?" Is that like "truthiness?"

Does anyone know the name of this 'interpretation ' Irish standard?
Little Love Affairs was written by Nanci and her md James Hooker. It is not a traditional Irish folk song.
well, there is nothing that good on the tonight show these days.
Nanci loves the Cheiftans but that guy bugged her a little, as a perfectionist, she looked over at him when he did not sing the correct notes/ harmony. And the fiddler caught her look and he briefly tilts head over at the idiot as if to say WTF did u just do to our Precious!!

Was Jay Leno super wasted? He could barely mumble through his 2 sentences.
Where is Nanci?
If you did not know
He's not blowin into those bagpipes, how is he inflatin them, and why is nobody sittin cloes to him?
They're uilleann pipes, not great highland pipes. The bellows under his arm inflates them.
