Was it just me or was the bass solo the most amazing thing ever? Ok, it wasn't just me. He was brilliant at the bass. Thank you for posting this! It's AMAZING. :)
You give The Ox a bass He will rock it become a god of it You give The Ox an acoustic bass He will rock it and become a god of it You give The Ox a Double bass He will rock it become god of it
In his biography, "hanks a Lot, Mr. Kibblewhite: My Story", Roger Daltrey refers to this performance as the one time that John Entwistle kept it under control and played soft enough not to blow you away. He played louder than Pete at most of the Who's gigs!
John does with his bass what Pete did with his guitar with a little bit of Keith's drums (which I really miss in this version :( ) John's just awesome!
oh wow, i saw this video about 3 years ago and then it was taken off---i think the title was slightly different---but i'm so glad it's back!! i LOVED watching John on the acoustic!!!!!!! fuckin' brilliant
Roger admitted to putting this together with the Chieftains to get a laugh at how quiet they were compared to John's bass as he said "after years and years and years" of putting up with John's loudness.
Pete was there....btw it was Roger's 50th birthday celebrated a week early ...in Carnegie Hall Feb 24& 25 th... The tape is out there CD too very special night
Wow. Dave Mustaine famously said "playing acoustic is like trying to have sex with your clothes on" And Entwistle just shredded that acoustic like no one else. RIP
@@learnthroughmusicandlyrics6361 I don't think roger had any animosity towards him neither John, probably in their younger days when Roger was actually hated for all the group.
@profjohnfrinks On the Kids Are Alright bonus disk Roger says that those were his gold records that John shot up. Which makes it exponentially more fantastic in my mind.
anyone who calls this shit or painful should automatically get their rock credentials pulled, as well as their eyes and ears for obviously being oblivious to the plain as day BEAUTY and emotion put forth by the legendary Chieftains, Daltrey and the Ox..i bet it was painful for townsend...cause he missed out on this... Roger says on page 135 that he got a kick out of placing John with that band, forcing him to play not so goddamned loud as to drown out Roger's voice like he does at WHO concerts.

The Ox. Thunder Fingers. Big Johnny Twinkle! The greatest Bass Guitarist of all time.!
Everyone smiles when John starts shreddin'. (including me)

John is at his melodic best! Absolutely brilliant and subdued.
john entwistle is the best bass player that world had,has and will have. there would never be anyone like him, i bet it.
Daltrey ,Entwistle and the Chieftains playing the best of Pete Townsend !

i always loved this version, and the bass solo just makes it
John's solo is so good that I just laugh at the end of it every time. Amazing.
Absolutely
You give The Ox a bass
He will rock it become a god of it
You give The Ox an acoustic bass
He will rock it and become a god of it
You give The Ox a Double bass
He will rock it become god of it
It can be acoustic, but it has a pickup and controls on top of the body, where only the player can see them... also a tuner and 9 volt battery holder.
First time I've seen this... wow!
Entwistle never ceases amaze me!
That was truely EPIC
Two words- blown away. So cute when John gives Rog a little smooch! XD RIP John and Keith.
John you will always be the greatest!!!!!
When you hear John play like that on an acoustic instrument...no tricks - all John...

John's just awesome!
Well, that sure never gets old! Neither do they, even in death!!
Great to see and hear John's solo! =)
I also still have this on vhs when I recorded it years ago.. a real gem
This is awesome. The orchestral-like arrangement works amazingly here.
oh wow, i saw this video about 3 years ago and then it was taken off---i think the title was slightly different---but i'm so glad it's back!! i LOVED watching John on the acoustic!!!!!!! fuckin' brilliant
THE BEST BASS PLAYER TO EVER LIVE!!!
Roger admitted to putting this together with the Chieftains to get a laugh at how quiet they were compared to John's bass as he said "after years and years and years" of putting up with John's loudness.
you SHALL play at carnegie all...
When you have hair like that at age 50, you're a fucking badass.
When you play bass like that, you're an ox.
They turned Behind Blue Eyes into RPG music, pretty cool
entwistle,what a man!!!
Such a shame he is gone.
Just one word ..'WOW'......!!!!!!!!!
Roger talk about this show in his biography, it's really fun as he says! Entwistle was a really dam good player.

John's solo was for Daltrey that's why it was so good.
Roger's autobiography brought me here, great clip!
Pete, You should be very proud of this rendition. Amazing
HE'S A WALL WHEN HE PLAYS, WHAT A LEGEND/GOD!

My dad's got this on tape. Oh, by the way, we're watching it right now!

@mcul2112 Yes indeed. That was a good one.
Wow. Dave Mustaine famously said "playing acoustic is like trying to have sex with your clothes on"

Music. Real, got-damned music. Contrast with the auto-toned rap Crap of today....
5:08 John suddenly turns into Keith :D
and I cried
Entwhistle was a bass cyborg, not from this planet, he didn't die, they ust came and brought him back home...
John roubando a cena 😍
Thank you so much for this, you made my night!!! :)
3:13 Roger screams 'Yeah John' .... YEAH !!!
2:53
Note the high class pause by John at 2:45....
haha no problem :D glad you enjoyed it!!!
Nice. I remember John Entwistle referring to this tour and saying that Roger's not a good boss to work under.
Other than their embrace at the end of this song, John and Roger never really got along. Sad.
@@learnthroughmusicandlyrics6361 I don't think roger had any animosity towards him neither John, probably in their younger days when Roger was actually hated for all the group.
SiMPLY GREAT!
Dopo di loro il diluvio... (after them, the deluge)
You should have said: 'Warning, you may die from extreme awesomeness at 2:55-3:34
this is actually pretty good
@profjohnfrinks On the Kids Are Alright bonus disk Roger says that those were his gold records that John shot up. Which makes it exponentially more fantastic in my mind.
@mcul2112 my pleasure :)
this was his birthday celebration at Carnegie Hall
I bet Paul McCartney saw this and cried.
i wish mate, i cant seem to find the bloody disc anywhere
I wonder what's the name or brand of that acoustic bass John is holding...workmanship and sound seems quite beautiful.
That's an Ovation bass. First one I've seen, but I have an Ovation guitar.
anyone who calls this shit or painful should automatically get their rock credentials pulled, as well as their eyes and ears for obviously being oblivious to the plain as day BEAUTY and emotion put forth by the legendary Chieftains, Daltrey and the Ox..i bet it was painful for townsend...cause he missed out on this...

God used to use The Ox fingers to play.
that's not from this world
Thanks for upload!! Where can I find to download?? Longliverock. Org?
is that an acoustic bass
It can be, but it's got a pickup, controls, tuner, and battery in it. It an Ovation bass.
Who else is here from Rodgers book
now, was this after or before daltrey's 50th birthday because i know he celebrated that at carnegie hall too
This IS Roger's 50th birthday celebration, according to p. 135 of his book.
Thumbs up if you skipped to 2:55
do you have the whole thing?
oh haha my b
the Ox stealing the show.
Man John wants to groove that shit but the goddamn band won't let him...
Roger says on page 135 that he got a kick out of placing John with that band, forcing him to play not so goddamned loud as to drown out Roger's voice like he does at WHO concerts.
@profjohnfrinks , pull out the tommy gun !!!
dude, only the coolest man alive(or to have lived) would pull a tommy gun and clip out of a guitar case and proceed to shoot his gold records as if they were clay pigeons...
