    I had Jury Duty last year but I only had to call in so I was very fortunate to not even have to wait at the court house.

    I was curious, so i just googled this... Where i live in Australia, If you don't get sent home half way through the first day, you would get around $106 a day for a trial less than 10 days or (if you are employed) it jumps up to closer to $250 a day after the 10th day. PLUS you get a travel allowance - 30 cents for every kilometre from your house to the courthouse... It definitely sounds a lot different over there in the US than here!

    • @ExtraJill
      @ExtraJill  4 года назад

      Oh waaaay different... Here it's $15 per day and a little more if you're the head of the jury or whatever it's called. I think it's part of the reason people dread jury duty!

    I’ve been summoned for jury duty more than 10 times. I’ve been chosen to be on the case 3 times. I pray I don’t have to serve again because each jury case I sat on was progressively worse than the prior .
    My first case was a medical malpractice case where the doctor/surgeon mixed up his right from his left resulting in the patient unable to get an erection anymore. He was in his mid-50’s. I was an 18-year old virgin. When we started deliberations we went around the table for a quick vote just to see where we stood. When it was my turn I blurted out “He’s 54 years old! He doesn’t have sex anymore I was quickly informed otherwise. Talk about embarrassing! Anyway… the 2nd jury I sat on was a drug case and the 3rd one was a murder case. I can only imagine how bad the 4th case will be. Probably child sex trafficking.

    Jury duty is how my brother became a lawyer.

      The Scouting Mama really? how did that work?

    • @imagineplanandcreate4050
      @imagineplanandcreate4050 4 года назад +18

      @@amybatres604 it ignited a passion for law in him. He was ummm a bit of a pain he had many many questions. The judge saw this in him and after the trial befriended my brother and told him he thought he would make a good lawyer. And he helped my brother get into law school when he was early 30s and he rose to the top of his class and became class presdint (or council presdint not sure). Once he passed the bar that judge swore him in and are still good friends. Now he is fighting for the rights of kids. I could not be any prouder of him. It was getting picked for the jury that helped him on his path to becoming a lawyer.

      The Scouting Mama wow that’s insane! congrats to him, i’m studying to be a lawyer but i haven’t had any experience with jury duty yet, that’s good for him :)

      @@amybatres604 that is amazing, and I wish you the very best. I know how hard law school is and how exhausting it can be. My brother who is a very hands on uncle had to pull back from playing with the kids as much as he would love. So i know the personal sacrifice you have to make to exceed in law school. Just keep pushing on. And find your path. My brother was blessed to have met the judge and help him find his path. He just started actually teaching i believe its pre law at LA community College. He is a busy guy but he loves it.

    omg what a coincidence, I’m a criminal justice major and had jury duty yesterday! Lol luckily when I signed in they told me I was done for the day, I was legit in the building for 5 min! I assume they didn’t have a case that day, either way they would’ve dismissed me quickly because of my major! Love seeing your opinion on legal stuff!

    The first half of the video is just her talking about her life. Which sounds extremely boring btw 🤦🏻‍♀️. “Crazy week. Not too busy though. Gosh I had a good day. Ooo here’s some leftover curry. I’ve had a decent week”
    Okay… we got it 🤦🏻‍♀️
    I left the video before she even got to the point.

    I really wanna be part of jury duty tbh, after watching the Gabriel Hernandez case and many criminal shows and such I've really been wanting to go and putting bad people away! I wouldn't wanna be a lawyer, (way too damn stressful and it's not something I'm really interested in or even thought of) but I really wish to see justice prevail especially if I get assigned to, God forbid a child abuse case or something.

    You told the prosecutor that you wouldn’t follow the judges instructions because you might have personal feelings that prevent you from being impartial. Of course the prosecutor dismissed you. He obviously mad3 the right call on that. Btw, your decision as a juror isn’t about whether you agree with the orison system. It’s about whether or not the accused is guilty under the law as it applies to the case.
