Completely agree with you on "Mirror Moon" being the worst. There are sandbox games from Disney that are more consistent on the story than that trash, and the art is a massive downgrade from ZJ. It could have been so good (Sally being in charge while Jack created an invention that copies whatever it reflects leading to the holidays all being copied into crude replicas), but it feels like the plot just stopped too fast. I wonder if it was actually written to have more issues originally and then trimmed down. That might explain the rushed art feel, too.
"Battle for Pumpkin King" is definitely an alternate timeline to "the Pumpkin King" game. I would rank them about the same in terms of story quality (just about garbage) and art (really good).
So whether people prefer to play or read a prequel, they can choose. The game definitely implies that Sally was created by Dr. Finkelstein directly though, because she's shown as an adult and everyone who knows about her talks about how new she is to the world. Contrast that with "Battle for Pumpkin King" where she's seen as a younger character, meaning that she could have been recently taken from Dream Town... such a depressing twist that made Dr. Finkelstein the real villain of this world. There were some implications that he created Sally as a partner for himself in the original film and that was icky enough, but now he's a kidnapper and possibly a child groomer. 😣

Need a third story of Dr. finkelstein and Oogie team up and try to take Halloween town.

I found a playable version of The Pumpkin King online, but you can't click out of the page otherwise you'll lose your game. I quit at the Pumpkin Patch level.
"I'll have a timed level combined with a stealth level."
    "How original."
"With a boss battle in the middle of it."
    "Daring today, aren't we?"

Yeah I seem to recall that being one of the more difficult parts of the game! :D
It might be better to emulate it so that you can at least save your progress and come back to it later!

Kinda went legend of zelda at the end there with the timeline.
And honestly, I think that makes the most sense.

Your videos are so well produced, well researched, and cover unique topics that haven’t been done to death by other RUclipsrs. I had no idea about many of these! I also like your editing style, always showing something relevant on screen without an overabundant use of jump cuts/meta humor. It’s just a very relaxing channel to watch. I really hope more people find your content because you deserve more exposure!

Thank you! This video in particular took quite a lot of research because it turned out there was way more to talk about than I initially thought! I was also trying out a different editing style to my usual videos too, so I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I always enjoyed Oogie's revenge, the combat is repetitive and not very interesting, but i think it does the job, of course is not like bayonetta at all, or god of war. But something i like a lot are the musical moments during boss fights. Thats not something you see all the time, mostly both genres are separated.

That's very true, I also really liked the musical sections too. It's probably one of the most interesting things about the game because you wouldn't normally expect to see that during a boss fight. I also liked just exploring the areas of the game too, even though there's not really a lot to do, it's still cool seeing the locations from the film!

There is a holiday about dreams on March 11th if that door had to be based on a holiday it would probably be that one, also that book feels a little bit lazy and forced with it's writing. Because he literally creates another doll in the original film, so I wish they would do a little more research before making another book.
Edit: Also, you forgot about the Kingdom Hearts games because they kind of fit in the timeline, too. the first visit to Halloweentown would have been right before the first film, and the second visit would have been after the film.

I think the only official "sequel" I'd like is the short idea, I'm not sure a full movie would live up to the original. We've seen what official sequels to classic films look like 10 to 20 years after they came out look like, and while they're not bad, they are always pretty meh. Hocus Pocus 2 and Disenchanted for example.

    • @PixelPursuit
      @PixelPursuit  Год назад +2

Yeah I think I'm with you there. Even if they managed to get all of the original creators and voice actors back, I still don't think it could ever live up to the original.
I don't recall if there's ever been a sequel released way after the original that's actually been good... I did enjoy Prometheus which was made way after the original Alien I guess, but that's a completely different thing with none of the same characters or anything so that doesn't really count. Oh actually, the third season of Twin Peaks was made 26 years after the last season and that was incredible, so I guess it can happen sometimes!

I personally liked "Hocus Pocus 2," but you can't top a cult classic like the original.

I like stylized GBA games I would probably get it if it wasn't so expensive

I swear that when I looked at the prices a month ago it wasn't that expensive! Admittedly I did actually emulate it but that was more because I needed to get good quality footage of it for this video which I can't do with actual hardware (yet!). I do want to get it at some point because I want to add it to my Nightmare Before Christmas collection that I've built up for this video haha!
