That life-size Jack puppet from the fireworks show further convinces me that Nightmare Before Christmas could work as a Broadway show, with puppets instead of awkwardly-costumed actors, Lion King-style. What a cool puppet. Great video Dan!
True. Heck, Disney currently has a new version of Winnie the Pooh in New Yorkdone in an incredibly similar way to shows like Finding Nemo, but with slightly larger scale puppets that look incredibly similar to the Christopher Robin versions.
The costumes of the Lion King reminded me of the Nightmare Before Christmas more than they did Lion King. I think there was a Nightmare Before Christmas broadway show once...or at least a stage version of it.
Fun Fact: Japan LOOOOOOVES Nightmare Before Christmas, *that's* why it was featured in Kingdom Hearts. Disney didn't mandate they put that property in the game, it was all Nomura who wanted it.
Jack & Sally are definitely two of the characters I'd love to meet the most at the parks, he always seems so eccentric and fun and Sally seems so sweet and timid, at least in the videos I've seen.
We usually go to Disney World for the Very Merry Christmas Party and we got to meet them once. They were awesome. Definitely some of my favorite pictures.
I've only gotten to meet them once, I think in 2014 or so, and they were a ton of fun, they loved my skull-print scarf and the guy playing Jack sounded JUST like the movie
The first time I met Jack, as well as Sally, was on the inaugural Bermuda cruise of on the Disney Magic, I met him after their first Nightmare Before Christmas sing along and was surprised by Jack and Sally popping out of the stage at the end and outside the theater they held a little meet and greet. So I met them and he asked what I was gonna dress up as, now I brought a shark onesie from the year before and my mom made a little sign that said fish are friends not food, but I just said I was gonna be a shark. And then the night afterwards which was the costume night they did the sing along again, which I didn’t attend again, and got in line to meet him and Sally again. As I walked up to him he said this, “You’re a shark, just like you said!” That one sentence made my entire cruise, true Disney and Halloween magic.
fun fact, Jack actually debuted as a costumed character in 2001 at the premiere event for the opening of Haunted mansion Holiday, along with Sally and even characters exclusive to the event that have yet to be seen again like Behemoth, the witches and even the clown (who could ACTUALLY TAKE HIS FACE OFF). I think Dan would get a kick out of watching the 2003 Haunted Mansion Holiday event where all the characters from the movie sing broadway songs...

Making Jack a face character I think was the best route to take. While it’s very tough to make his appearance believable, his personality and charisma really makes you forget about his weird head. If he was just an silent, unmoving face with overly dramatic arm and leg movements, that would have been freaky af.
A Jack Skellington deep dive is perfect to kick off Halloween weekend! I would love a deep dive of the Glow in the Dark parade. I’m always amazed at how next level the Asian parks get with the characters we know and love.
Just recently the Jack Puppet from 2019 was used in the Danny Elfman Nightmare Before Christmas concert on October 29th and 30th 2021. There’s also a full walkthrough ride in Disney China. Jack can also be briefly seen in Burton’s first short, Vincent (near the end when Vincent’s creations are falling on him).
You know what would be cool? If they kept notes from the Jack puppet in 2019, and made an interactive meet and greet somewhere in the park during Halloween! Someplace indoors, like the Princess Fairytale Meet & Greet or Main Street Town Hall; guests could journey through the Halloween Town forest, and as they turn a corner, he's just hanging out in front of the curled hill, and the performer could have a microphone to talk to visitors! They could even dress him up with a special "Sandy Claws" outfit during Christmastime!
First of all: Yeah, I always find it weird how the costumed character is categorized as a villain. I'd wager he's far less evil than Darth Vader or Maleficent, the two people who have attempted child slaughter. The dude wasn't even the one who threatened to EAT Santa Claus! Second: People fell in love with TWO things? Does the soundtrack not count anymore, Dan? Heck, you didn't even make ONE Hot Topic joke, sir! Third: Tupperware Scar, Vader Bulge, and Spooky Goofy. Have I mentioned how much I love this videos? DRINK JACK'S BLOOD! Fourth: I know it's early to think about this, but is there any possibility you could do a Grinch video for the upcoming Holiday season? Quality control on how the Grinch looks at Universal is insane and I bet you could have a fun time ripping some of the weirder looking costumes a new one.
I kind of get Jack being lumped in with the villains. If I was writing the show, I’d say Jack was hosting a Halloween party & invited all the Disney villains because he heard they were the scariest guys around. The party goes well as each guest gets their own segment to do their thing, but when Maleficent shows up she rallies the others into conquering the Magic Kingdom. Jack’s all “WTF, this is supposed to be FUN scary, not legit evil,” the villains kick him out of his own party, he sings a variation of his Lament song from when his sleigh got blown up, regains his confidence, and goes back to the villains to stop their evil plans & save Halloween.
I am being Sandy Claws Jack Skellington on stilts for Halloween. Costume took weeks to make, but it’s perfect. Hopefully I don’t fall on the stilts around town haha edit: it went really well, i probably had 200+ people ask for photos. was a really great night! made a lot of people smile
I love Jack interactions at the parks. He and sally were at the mansion just about to head back for break, and Sally and I had the same color hair then, Jack asked where I got mine and it must have been from the same graveyard 🤣
I've only met Jack and Sally in the parks once but it was one of my all-time favorite meet and greets, and while the mask may look strange I'm glad park Jack can talk because his banter is always so good, I love watching videos of people meeting him
The Jack puppet made an appearance at Disney’s Nightmare Before Christmas Live Concert in LA on Friday night. He co-hosted with Danny Elfman and I imagine he’ll be back for the second show tonight. So happy he’s not in storage, because he’s amazing!
Having seen it in person as part of Jack’s cavalcade at Boo Bash a few weeks back, I’m still not a fan of the walk around version of Jack. I’d hoped pictures and videos didn’t do it justice, but nah, it’s just terrible. Grey man alien is a good description 👽. Also, that buff Jack cup is clearly because Disney sent Jack over to Universal to learn from their Horror Nights scareactors. First thing they teach you: you scare with your core, Dan. You scare with your core.
Ever since I saw this movie in theaters, I always wondered: is jack wearing a white buttoned shirt underneath the black jacket or is that just a cleavage? Anyway, perfect timing dan. I really appreciate your existence and happy halloween 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃 :)
This is the same question I've always had and I've seen the movie a lot. I always assumed he just wore his suit open chested but I started thinking it might be a white shirt. But there's no collar on the shirt if it is a shirt? This is the biggest question I have about the movie

That enormous puppet was used last night at the Banc of California Stadium for The Nightmare Before Christmas Live-To-Film Concert Experience. I was there last night and saw it!
That weird sequel to the original movie video game actually IS good, it's also effectively a baby's first Devil May Cry, considering it uses a lot of the same basic gameplay systems and was also made by Capcom. It's nothing like.. outstanding or anything, but a lot better than most would give it credit for

Edit: Actually, you're right, I can see a second guy. Just ignore my muppet nerd out Dan. ;_;
With Dan mentioning the lines on Jack's suit, it makes me want to see a comparison between this design and a design with the stripes horizontal. I want to see how much on an impact these vertical stripes have on jacks arms and legs.
Not only is Jack Skeleton a goth icon, but he's also the start of Tim Burton's obsession with having his protagonists be lanky pale dudes played by Johnny Depp.
For the costume they should’ve just made the head a puppet mechanism where the mouth just flaps up and down while keeping the shape of the head from the film. Alien Jack just looks like cosplay that came out a bit wrong, and considering what Disney has done with costumes like Mickey Mouse just making a mechanism that moves a mouth up and down shouldn’t be too hard

I was so happy when I learnt Jack Skellington was added in Disneyland Paris 😁 best part of my trip was seeing him outside the phantom manor Now all they need to bring along with him is the Haunted Holiday Mansion takeover 😁

When you mentioned Doug Jones I litterley screamed and got so so happy that my parents looked at each as in "wth" I'm so happy that you mentioned him!😭😭😭😭thr started crying😭😭😭
I was so happy when I learnt Jack Skellington was added in Disneyland Paris 😁 best part of my trip was seeing him outside the phantom manor
Now all they need to bring along with him is the Haunted Holiday Mansion takeover 😁
In 2019 I saw that puppet of Jack Skelington and I had no idea how they did it but this video has shown me how it was worked ( seeing him live shows way more less of the puppeteers and more of Jack because he is all you want to look at
Didn't the Jack Skellington costume actually debut back in 2001 to celebrate the opening of the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay?
HEY DAN!!!!! I went to The Not So Scary Halloween Party a couple days ago and THEY BROUGHT BACK THE JACK SKELLINGTON PUPPET TO HOST THE EVENT!!!!! It was so cool to watch!!! I fricken love The Nightmare Before Christmas and Tim Burton. The puppet was even better to see in real life ❤❤❤
Edit: I recorded the whole thing and I could here how excited I was when I saw Jack 😂 I was literally jumping up and down lol
The pure joy you are able to emulate from just talking about Disney lights a spark in my heart 💜
Love the 2019 Puppet and yours as well! All of your puppets are spectacular my friend!
Jack also made an extremely brief and blink and you’ll miss it cameo as an egg yolk from the 2009 stop motion film Coraline.
Perfect because my boyfriend and I are being Jack and Sally from the nightmare before Christmas
The puppet was used at the NBC concert with Danny Elfman this year.
Thank you to Jack for co hosting!
I rewatched James and the Giant Peach last night and I was so excited to see Jack! I knew he was in it but I completely forgot!
Dan is like the Dad of RUclips, he be out here making the jokes and giving us the gift of his glorious laugh.
14:32 This absolute madlad is recording the performance with his 3DS. What a legend.
I have several friends who skated in Disney on ice, and I’m just waiting for the day I see one of them in your videos. Hilarious. 🤣🤣🤣
Yo, I'm. So happy you brought up the Capcom game. I was obsessed with it lol
I have that folkmanis jack puppet and it is FANTASTIC definitely my favorite puppet I own.
Love this evolution
They need to use that puppet for meet and greets!! They did it with Coco
I remember seeing that Jack Skellington puppet for the first time growing up with HK Disney, and oh my GOD in person, as a child, I believed magic was real in that moment more than anything else, I was born the day before Halloween and spending the final hours before my birthday ended in that spooky parade was phenomenal
AW COME ON DAN, JUST MADE IT TO THE END BIT, WHAT DO YOU MEAN FORGET THE HONG KONG PUPPET DD:
Yes! My favorite character of all time and a character evolution video! I'm so happy you did this! I had no idea he was attached to Beetlejuice's hat either! Nightmare Before Christmas has been my obsession ever since I saw it for the first time. Still wanna get my first tattoo of the Haunted Mansion Holiday crossover since it's my two favorite things combined!!! 💀💜
Congrats on the subscriber milestone too Dan!! 🥳
I ADORE THIS SO MUCH!! I love the huge Jack on the Pumpkin in Hong Kong! Also, the overlay is fantastic! My best friend loves Jack and her now fiancé proposed to her using a ring box in a shape of a coffin and a NBC quote!
My 13 year old brother with atisum loves your channel he also loves pinnochio and tinkerbell and fairies
You rock Dan! You have been so inspiring to me and my love for Disney, costumes, and all things Jim Henson. I’ve been interested in puppetry and costume design my whole life but I grew up to think I am not enough being myself. Thank you for showing me people will support you when you think you are enough! Keep creating and you rock!
Dan, love ur vids u are a great man and Congratulations on 200 k
Oh ok
Omg FINALLY I’ve wanted Dan to do this for ages
this was cool! Jack Skelington is one of my favs! I'd love to hear more about that halloween parade you mentioned with that awesome puppet of Jack!
I'm in my second year of studying animation and we are doing Stop Motion shorts this year! Very exciting stuff, I think creating the puppets was the hardest thing to achieve haha-
I love skeleton characters and naturally Jack is high on that list~
Where do you study animation?
@@kmckissick4642 SAE Institute, it's an internationally based University and there is one based in my town in South Africa 💖
Wow! My dream is to study animation. Any tips?
@@britneybritney Never be afraid to use reference and it always helps to film yourself when you're trying to animate a convincing performance and plan out the various key poses. Also never be afraid to ask your lecturers for feedback because they will show you issues in your work that you wouldn't have picked up otherwise. Most of the fundamentals will be taught to your in your classes from figure studies to drawing from life which are a necessity. Don't forget to enjoy the experience, it may get stressful at times but you're doing something you love and it makes it all worth it ♡♡♡
0:13A legend was born JACK SKELETON
The pose at the end with jack killed me
I'm glad I'm not the only one that though he looked like an alien. Also the Jack sipper looks like Gru in a costume.
The Jack skellington puppet was actually used in Danny elfmans live orchestra for nightmare before Christmas in 2021.
Good news! They reused the new jack Skellington puppet for the anniversary concert for nightmare before Christmas.
The last time I was this early we could get autographs from the characters in the parks
Jack skellington is scary...but he can have a good personality.
Deep dive into the Glow in the Dark Parade would be awesome!!
For real I was at a Disney park in November of last year and the Haunted Mansion overlay was SO FRIGGIN COOL. If you get the chance go for it.
You wouldn't think there'd be that much evolution in such a short time lol.
I love Jack Skellington!!! Do Glow in the Park parade that you’ve mentioned! And do an evolution of Casper the Friendly Ghost!
I have NEVER seen Dan with this much energy. Great vid, dude!
I think Jack being with the villains makes sense because in his world the evil doers or villainous behavior is celebrated. Even though Jack is a Black sheep in his world he still has appreciation for this type of behavior
I remember seeing just a lil bit of Jack when I was 5 and I got so scared and started crying and my sister teased me by saying “poor Lily I thought I wanted him as ur dad” ( yes 5 year old me wanted Jack and sally as my parents )
