- Crash Into Animal Kingdom’s Latest Water Spectacular ! It’s always a joy to see new shows debut at the #DisneyParks, but for some reason, an unholy curse has been placed on the Rivers Of Light Amphitheater leaving only chaos! #WaltDisneyWorld was simply not prepared for the unpredictable insanity that is KITES! Jungle Book & The Lion King both are full of real silly moments.

I appreciate Disney’s efforts to create entertainment that won’t be disruptive to the animals but clearly they are struggling with it ;.;

Honestly Kitetails feels like a resurrection of those weird and campy parades/shows that Disney parks used to put on in the early 2000’s and I fully welcome it

It’s got a lot of fun aspects for sure. It was poorly introduced and under delivered on some of the bigger ideas.

I just realized…. Why isn’t baloo on his back like he’s floating down the river… no wonder it looks so weird.
I'm willing to bet that was the plan when they built him, but then someone pointed out that the audience would be looking at Baloo's backside the whole time, so they flipped him over.
They could’ve put his hands behind his head to telegraph it better, at least!
And King Louie needed like, SOMe kind of pose instead of just having his arms just laying downward. Like, hands in the air at least!

I feel like if this show existed alongside Rivers of Light, then it would be received better as just being a fun little daytime show. But the fact this replaced a nighttime spectacular show at Animal Kingdom is why it’s considered so awful. Like at least Rivers of Light had a better budget and more effort into it, plus it was more themed around actual animals instead of just Disney IP’s.

i think if they just had the handheld kite puppet things as a walk around mini parade it would've been much better received too

It's unfortunate that Kite Tails ended up as basically the Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark of Disney Parks, because it had potential to be amazing, and now, all of it's disasters have become subjects of memes on social media
My question is, if Disney knew that kites landed that way WHY ON EARTH WOULD THEY LAND THEM IN THE AUDIENCE LIKE THAT!?! Why not have them crash backstage or something out of view? Also yeah the characters are just shy of T-posing through the air. WHO LET THIS HAPPEN!?

🪁 This should have been less of a show and more like street-mosphere where like every 15 minutes you can catch someone flying a cool Disney kite out there. Just having fun casually flying a colorful kite. Totally magical but it’s just not sit-down-show worthy.
Also, can we focus more on the art and physicality of the act of kite flying itself and less on the design and size of the kite? Like hire a pro kite trick flyer to stand stationary on a barge and pull off some sick moves for 10 minutes!
"The air around us holds an ancient magic" is the fanciest way i've heard someone say "I admit it, it was me who farted" i have ever heard and i will make a point to use it in the future.
Kitetails should be a night show. The jet ski wakes can be illuminated and take regulated precautions, the kites can be lit, the puppet performers can be added to stationary platforms at various depths from viewers, and extended use of illuminated fountains/mist would be a way to use imagination to the best they can at Animal Kingdom, for they can’t have fireworks.

Heres my theory. THIS is the variant moment for Mobius. His obsession with jetskis went too far and he made a show that would destroy disney (and possibly the fabric of reality). If we are lucky, we are gonna get pruned otherwise the kites will take over.

Seeing how fun the elephant and turtle puppets are makes me wish they would have gone more in the direction of something like Legend of The Lion King where there's use of puppets but do it on boats. I know it would be a huge undertaking for imagineers, but it's at least something interesting compared to watching Baloo literally crash into empty seats.

Ever since the 1955 opening with the Phantom Power Boats, Disney should have learnt that they should stay away from water-based small motor vehicles.
Love Lion King as much as the next guy, but Disney does have other animal-themed movies they can use. You know, if they need a new show they have a certain movie with a city full of animals that could work *cough* Zootopia *cough*
I second this! There’s also Brother Bear, The Fox and the Hound, A Bug’s Life, Bambi, Up, and countless others besides just The Lion King and The Jungle Book so why not include a variety of representation
really, where's the Rescuers, 101 Dalmatians, The Aristocats...they could have turned Kevin from UP into a freaking kite- so may wasted opportunities to use the characters Disney already owns!! Bring on Bagheeera, Scar and Shere khan!
A Lilo and Stich show could work really well.
Disney should use more their movies, not just the biggest hits. People will watch the films more too if they see them, and you can combine films by themes so it’s not some lesser known movie alone.
The way the Simba kites go from “I just can’t wait to be king” to “well I mean, I guess I’ll do it cuz I’m here” is the TRUE story of Kite Tails. 😂

Yes, except when Rivers of Light was playing. (Still not a great idea to walk around the rocky trails after dark in woodsy territory with few lamps and generally wet sidewalks after the rain, though...)

So far, the record is 30 days for a bad Disney show, for Stitch's Galaxy Day Celebration at MK Tomorrowland.
That one was killed just for being lame, but Kite Tails has the advantage of being TECHNICALLY disastrous, with the jet-ski accidents and the kites in trees. Records could be broken.
You could say that Baloo crashing onto land is a homage to Talespin.
In the performance I watched Young Simba crashed spectacularly. He went straight up in the air and then faceplanted hard into the water it was fantastic.
I feel like Disney just doesn’t care anymore because they know people will be obsessed with Disney regardless. They could have a “watch paint dry” show and as long as it was labelled Disney people would pay to see it.

Honestly a Beastly Kingdom kitetails show doesn't sound that bad. And it would make sense because their dragons and they fly.

This is the kind of thing Michael Eisner would've greenlit during his tenure as Disney President.
The Eisner slams are REALLY old and tired and you know you would take Eisner right now over Bob Cheapskate any day.

I disagree, the shows Eisner greenlit are still going and are still fan favourites. Say what you want about Eisner but if he liked an idea he threw money at it to make sure it would work like Fantasmic and Disneyland Paris. Over budget and long to recoup the costs, some longer than others, but they were considered successes in at least one big way. Nothing here is successful and the new parks team and CEOs are kidding themselves if they thought this would ever work

Saw a Jungle Book show on 10/3, first song was Bare Necessities. At the song's finale, Baloo broke off and took a perfect nose dive into the lagoon, nearly thought it was planned that way it was so perfectly timed
I haven't laughed this hard in months. OMG! Its cursed, its cheap and hilarious.
I believe that everytime that the Kite tales performers get nervous everytime they do the shows. You know why...... lots of issues,the blow of wind,jet ski crashes,tangle galore..... what else.....
This is the crap that Disney is using to justify all its prince increases these days. Yeah, we raised admission prices for the twentieth year in a row, but hey, look at the great entertainment experiences we're giving you!

I saw both shows today; they were GLORIOUS and I was laughing hysterically the whole time. Baby Simba's leg twisted so his foot was on upside down, Baloo crash-landed into the lake, and I could practically hear Zazu's pained screaming for the full show.
The Tracker caption alone justified me subscribing.

I really want to know what that meeting looked like. Who heard the idea 'jet ski kite show' and went "YES! FULL SEND!"
So I was there on the 2nd, and watched King Louie break. Classic. Then they cancelled the show for the rest of the day because of “strong winds”. 🙄🧐
Honestly, this show and Harmonious both reek of someone not saying “no” to terrible ideas. I remembered the parade for the millennium celebration at Epcot and how that died a swift death because winds made it dangerous. I told my partner to expect the same thing for KiteTails, and so far it hasn’t disappointed.
All that said, there’s a ton of absolutely amazing stuff they’ve done for the 50th, so we should expect a few failures. But whoever is in charge of shows needs to be fired. Out of a cannon. Into the sun. Because Harmonious ruined the sightlines for World Showcase and sucks. And, well, Dan just summarized everything that is wrong with KiteTails in under 14 minutes. So yeah, Disney needs to dump everyone involved in those shows and get some real talent hired in.
I'm following your rundown and am thinking, "eh, it's kinda cheap Disney entertainment, that's not foreign to the parks, it's a little weird but hey, it's fine..."
Then you get to the part where Baloo crashes and I lost it.
Why would you have one of the main parts of the show just awkwardly crash somewhere?! Could they not send him back the way he came? Was this show choreographed or did they just hand out kites and jet skis to people and said, "go nuts"??

Be honest: we watch kitetails to see the KiteFAILS. I mean, sometimes the landing is a gentle laydown while others are straight up piledrivers.

I completely forgot about the animals from last year, those were great- what about those ? Holiday season rolls around “please do not pay attention to the giant bear stuck in the trees” please 😭
I was there on the 29th for the soft opening and there were so many children crying when they saw Baloo being brought down and crashed into the water. Even though that was a planned thing, that's how I knew what a horrible show it was going to be. By the way, Harmonious and Enchantment were terrible choices to replace their predecessors and I stand by my decision!

I will say my opinion changed once I saw it in person. It helps that they do break it up and you catch one or the other versions because then you only are watching about a 10 minute show rather than a possible 20 minute show. The preshow is cute but as an "activation" as they call it, I don't think the length warrants waiting to watch it. It's a come as it starts kind of performance or stop and watch as you pass by, take a quick load off from walking around the park.
It seems like it would be better suited in some ways to be like the mountaineers at the Matterhorn… not really a “show” but yeah, something you could sit down and watch for a little while.

I believe the animal puppets at Christmas time haven’t come back because of Covid because they are meant to interact with guests up close.

I just think its funny that they made a show about fabric puppets that are supposed to fly on the wind that is ruined when there is any amount of wind at all.

Most of the 50th celebration is what happens when you lay off most of your good Imagineers.
Having handled large inflatable objects under windy conditions...you never really know what's going to happen. There are just too many things that can go hilariously wrong.

Ther should take a page from the ballagio hotel and do a beautiful day time fountain dance set to Disney music. In Vegas it’s stunning to see during the day and just as beautiful at night lit up. They could run it multiple times during the day just like the hotel.

Unfortunately, Disney is no longer in the business of doing outstanding visually impressive shows. Now they are doing lazy, mediocre, unimpressible shows, that cost them less to put on, while they make sure to charge the customers as much as possible.
Ngl here the manned puppets look amazing but the inflatable ones are a mess...
The puppets work as part of a different show, but definitely not this "show".

Animal kingdom is the best at building things and then breaking it. The rocking bridge in the safari. Disco Yeti in Everest. The discovery boats. The first night time show. Now presenting the broken Kite: Kite tails, the legend of the working show.
