    Thank you so much. After many hours of searching, you are the first person to mention using spacers when installing above the trim. I had a flat part on the trim in my old house I was able to use, but this new house has no flat parts on the trim. My parents blinds are installed this way without the spacers and they get caught on the trim when trying to tilt the slats, so I was thinking of using some type of wood spacers, but didn't think I would like the look. I'm so glad you mentioned those transparent ones.

    I just installed a cordless blind from the Big Box store. Good quality and, along with yours, very user-friendly directions. HOWEVER, I did an outside mount, installing it to clear the window, and discovered that I can't reach that high! So it still partially covers the window when it's up. Who'd a thunk it? It's fine, and I'll leave it, because everything else worked out great. I just never would've thought of it, so thought I'd share.

    Good video. I wasn't sure about the orientation of the brackets for an outside mount and the instructions that came with the miniblinds were poor. Your video clearly showed how to properly install the brackets. Thanks !

    Wow! I can do it myself! Your video is excellent! Love how thorough you are describing all the necessary parts of an easy, no problem installation. I picked up the different screws and made sure I had a magnetic screwdriver drill. We just got all our old windows replaced and thought I would have to have professional installation etc. I even made a template out of the cardboard from the blind box so I could just use it for all the windows and blinds installed. The windows were all the same size. Thank you again Perfect instructional video.

    On a tangential topic, I have a tip for inside mounting. If you have a lot of blinds to hang, make a template. Just rip one of the flaps off a blind box and tape it into the corner of the window frame where you want the left bracket to go. Once you decide on the bracket position, use an awl to mark the screw holes in the cardboard. Before you remove the template, write an L (for left) on it, and draw an arrow so you know the proper orientation to use. Remove the template and write an R (for right) on the other side. Then you can use the template and an awl to mark the screw locations for all of your windows. Use the L side for the left brackets, and the R side for the right brackets. The reason you use the left side to create the template is because the blind tilting mechanism means you don't have as many placement options for the left bracket. If the template works for the left side, it should also work for the right side after you flip it over.

    • @OldBaldDad
      @OldBaldDad 3 года назад

      I should also point out that this depends on the mounting brackets having holes in a symmetrical pattern. If the patter is asymmetric, you'll need two templates.

    I like blinds and curtains for a pretty complete black out effect. Blinds usually have holes in them and of course the space between the slats. Curtains usually bleed light through and the space between them if they don't overlap enough. Having both makes for a pretty dark room. Especially useful in the summertime when you finally have a day off to sleep in! 😊

    • @EverydayHomeRepairs
      @EverydayHomeRepairs  3 года назад +1

      I think that is a better all around solution. In my rentals and flip properties I usually just put up blinds but some of my renters request curtains as well especially in the bedrooms 👍.

    Depending on how many different sized windows you have in a given house (I have roughly three), I like to keep an extra set or two of the cheap blinds as "just in case" replacements. I have no issue using the cheap Lowes house brand on most of my windows, but they are more brittle and so break more easily if hit by something, etc.

    • @EverydayHomeRepairs
      @EverydayHomeRepairs  3 года назад +1

      Hey Marc, I have used several different brands from the big box home improvement stores over the years but I did notice these Project Source 1" vinyl blinds seemed a bit more brittle and prone to the slats getting chipped or broken.

    • @marcberm
      @marcberm 3 года назад

      @@EverydayHomeRepairs Definitely noticed it too. There was a previous iteration of the Lowes brand cordless that wasn't as brittle, but didn't have the control rod to open/close, and instead you had to pull down or lift up on them a bit (with the side effect of also raising or lowering them a little every time).

    I have three cordless levelor blinds that are installed side by side. Each one closes a bit more or less than the other. So at night with the lights on inside and the blinds closed, some let more or less light through than the others. How can I make it so they all close tightly with no gap at the overhang of each slat?

    when they installed our new windows they took away our jam area for hanging blinds. I was wondering if we could thicken the jam by adding a boarder around the window, in which does not have any trim around it so that we can install our blinds on the inside and then put our curtains back up

    how did you compensate for the trim that was angled? -- do both holes of the bracket need to be flush with the trim?

    • @EverydayHomeRepairs
      @EverydayHomeRepairs  3 года назад

      I did not compensate for the angle of the trim and just mounted the bracket flat against the trim without any shimming. I thought about shimming but since the angle wasn't that aggressive I just mounted flat.

    These brackets are a PIA to work with! I have purchased blinds three times from the same store and have gotten 3 different types of brackets, and all are different when it's time to attach the blind! I get so frustrated and just when I think I have it clipped in securely, it falls down. Why did they have to change the brackets? They are horrible. The end brackets were much simpler. Another example of, "If it isn't broken..."

    I’ve been installing these blinds in my house and having a horrible time! I make sure that they’re all even with each other and exactly the same. Then I hook the top of the blind into the top hook but then when I go to rotate the blind to get it to snap and to the bottom clip… It’s so far off and I keep trying really hard and I can’t get it to go in. I finally got frustrated and went ahead and just rotated it super hard and the top clip chipped off a piece of the upper blind where it clips on at the top? I don’t understand what’s going on? If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it.☹️

    Great Video! Thank you for making it. Question: I purchased white 1" Vinyl slat type cordless Levolor blinds Model #929751 (sorry, it was before I saw your video) and thought I could shorten them... however when I got them home I read the instructions they said they cannot be shortened... yet I see instructional videos, including yours, showing how to shorten them. These blinds are slightly different from yours, instead of the elongated holes to pass the lifting cords, they have tiny small holes (total of 4) for the 4 lifting cords that pass through the slats (positioned towards the rear of the slats, I think it gives a cleaner look). The model I have is 60" wide x 72" tall blinds (for a 43" tall window, that is ridiculously oversized!!!), There are 5 ladders, and 4 lift strings. Are these really impossible to shorten or are the instructions saying that to discourage people from attempting to shorten the blinds? Do you or your audience know anything about these? Thank you in advance.
