It's my birthday today, 3rd June. So I thought I'd try to exploit that fact by requesting that you watch the movie The Wanderers, it's an amazing film with a brilliant soundtrack (late 50s & 60s music) even though its a film about gangs/racial tension etc there is still a lot of humor in it. If you find time and space to do it I would consider it as being the best birthday present in all of my 52 years.
David Choe, who plays Isaac Cho, is a Korean American artist who rose to fame when his art started appearing in the Asian pop culture magazine Giant Robot.
This show is just anxiety inducing non stop I had to keep skipping bits so that it was cut up so I wouldn't feel the full effect of the show lmao. Beef captures the tension and deference expected in a family in traditional korean (I'm chinese and I feel it applies too) cultures. The filial piety, the guilt and desperation Danny feels towards his parents, the back talk but immediate retreat from Paul towards Danny, ugh it is so accurate. I would talk back to my mom and be rude to her all the time as a teenager (I was an ass) but when she was triggered she shuts me down with one look or word. In those moments I am petrified and like all I want to do is appease her. I love Danny's character so much like... MAN they captured the human condition with this show lol I really loved it and am glad to see you guys enjoying it too.
I'm finally watching now. Glad to hear I'm not the only one who jumps to avoid the full effect of the secondhand cringe. They did such a good job with this.
Hahahaha I love that every reactor I have watched reacting to every episode of Beef is tensed and masks their anxiety with disgust and feeling irrate about the situation instead of just being amazed. I think its their unconscious knowing that this is produced by A24 and that something tragic and horrible is about to happen, they just dont know when 😂
@@miekgg Succession was outstanding too, that finale was out of this world. Barry was alright, didn't love the writing for this last season... great performances though.
@@marlone3680 I personally loved barry’s finale tho honestly i don’t think it’s the writing - but just more epsiodes in general - feel like they definitely could’ve extended the szn to 10 or 12 eps
It’s the way the characters are written. Despite doing a bunch of bad shit, she’s written to be more likable. There’s nothing to like so far from George.
They're called antiheroes. Same thing in other shows/movies. It's why Hannibal Lecter is more likeable than Dr. Chilton and Lecter does objectively worse things than Chilton. That being said, I mean the husband isn't helping the situation. He's ultimately doing the same thing as a more negative abusive partner, i.e. being invalidating. He's just using positivity to invalidate her feelings rather than negativity.
Nah this is such a cap, as someone who finished the entire series like 3 times already Amy and Danny OBVIOUSLY cause a hell of a crap storm but to pretend that George ISN’T an awful person/ husband and that he isn’t DIRECTLY responsible for Amy’s emotional distress and her pent up frustration would just be willful ignorance. George spends the ENTIRE series being a self centered, selfish, spoiled rich boy who only ever cares about HIS own thoughts and feelings. He hides it all behind this image of a super nice stay at home dad but EVERYTHING he does in the series just reinforces that he’s EQUALLY as shitty a person as the other awful people in the series 🤷🏻♂️ I can say easily that by the end of episode 10 he’s still one of the biggest jerks on the show. Hoping for a season 2 so maybe he can realize how crappy a husband he was 😭
@@AustinSamson1999 Nah, George is definitely a better person than his wife at the very least. There's nothing you can do to surpass sleeping with someone else while married.
@@thelegacyofgaming2928 yeah, okay bro 😂 whatever you say my guy. I guess telling another woman you’re in LOVE with them “while married” and emotionally neglecting and suppressing your wife the entire time your doing it is no big deal 🤷🏻♂️👌 Fuck George.
Don't forget to keep in your brain that some things that seem weird by western culture standards isn't in others. I once was dating an Asian woman and she did the pop up surprise at my home and work. I had to sit her down and explain to her that in western culture this is viewed as a bit rude and stalky. She really didn't have any notion of this although she has lived in the states a long time. Culturally from where she was born and raised, it was not a big thing and actually admired.
Look... I don't like Amy's husband either. But I think you guys go too far with the shade. Just because we are seeing things through Amy's eyes and SHE doesn't see value in the things in his life like his men's club, that doesn't mean that it isn't important to him and doesn't have value. We don't know what this club does or what purpose it serves to him or any of it's members. There are two people in this relationship. His needs and passions have value and merit as well. I found your dismissal of the men's club thing a bit annoying without having context. And he also seemed to be the one making all the allowances and adjustments at this point for her to do her thing. I think there is a bit of a double standard here because if the roles were reversed, I think you would be saying "Well it's important to heeerrrr..". Jusss sayin.
Through Amy’s eyes? Or we are basing feeling off what the show is showing us. If my wife had a 10 million dollar deal I’d tell my boys to chill for a bit and do anything to back her up. I certainly wouldn’t be jerking off to some IG photos of someone she works with. That said, we’ve given plenty of shade at Amy and her actions because she’s wrong.
@@NikkiStevenReact The fact that you all think GEORGE is the main problem in their house is extremely interesting. Like I said before, George may be a bad husband, since he's jerking off to a picture of his wife's employee, but Amy has shown enough through 4 episodes for most people to think she's crazy and prone to violence and rage. At worse, George has shown himself to just be a LOSER at this point, and being a loser shouldn't be as damning as raging around town. Do you think George being a better husband and less of a loser would make Amy any less crazy and vengeful? Look at all the stuff she's doing that George knows nothing about. All he's doing is moping around, jerking off, and trying unsuccessfully to work on their relationship. Not the most egregious things compared to what Amy has done, lol.
I disagree--he was very invalidating. He didn't listen and talked over her. He also invalidated her with positivity (it's a thing) by saying trite things like "be positive" or "be happy" while steamrolling her venting session, showing he's not connecting with her authentically whereas she actually tries to communicate authentically several times. (Because the show shows the parallels between the two, we see the same thing occur right after when Danny tries to talk to Paul and Paul ignores him.) Being invalidating inherently means you aren't paying attention to the needs of the other party. Yes his needs are important and her he's trying to accommodate her, but he's accommodating the needs that he THINKS she has but aren't her real needs, i.e. excitement in the relationship, authentic communication, and attention to/appreciation for her contribution to finances. Ultimately this is because he's not connecting with her authentically.
@@crimsonrose Or maybe she needs to be told to "be positive" since she's always being negative...because she's crazy. He's a loser, a wuss, and a pushover. She's clearly insane.
