    Teacher: "How do you write 4,000 in Roman numerals?"
    Me: (thinking) "Mmmm"
    Teacher: "Well done!"

    What made Caesar great was his dressing...

    I really liked Falling Sky. The COIN games are no more difficult to learn/play than this one. However, they are very different mechanically. This plays a lot like Washington's War. If you like that one you will most likely enjoy Caesar: Rome vs. Gaul

    Roman Republic not Roman Empire... 'yet'.
    ;) The time of Empire was soon upon them though!
    And yes i'm being a nitpicker here!
    Awesome review! :)

    Doctor Carlson, you had a lot of *Gaul* posting this video.

    I have this unopened on my shelf and am now inspired to take it down and break it open. (Quick question -- Is there a spot on the map for the fortified camps of Totorum, Aquarium, Laudanum, and Compendium; or do the Gauls have a Getafix card giving them magic potion? )

      Is that from Compass Games? I'd really like to try some of their games, but they do not offer review copies and I am too poor to buy any right now. Maybe one day.

      @@TheDiscriminatingGamer yes, Compass. I see...there is a Vassal version you could explore.

    Have you tried the Coin game Falling Sky's the Gallic Revolt against Caesar? And if so how does it compare?

    • @TheDiscriminatingGamer
      @TheDiscriminatingGamer  3 года назад +3

      I haven’t played that one. To be honest, I’m a little intimidated by COIN. I need to bite the bullet and play one.

      @@TheDiscriminatingGamer You would love it! Some COIN iterations are more complex than others, but once you get the core concepts down, you can jump from one to another without too much difficulty.

    Do you miss the tactical battle card system from Hannibal in this one?

    • @TheDiscriminatingGamer
      @TheDiscriminatingGamer  3 года назад +1

      I do. I’m a big fan of that system (see my recent review for Napoleon Returns 1815).

    Smells complicated.... minutiae? Mmmm

    • @TheDiscriminatingGamer
      @TheDiscriminatingGamer  3 года назад +1

      I'd say it's mid-level complexity for such a game. Not too bad, but I think some things could have been simplified a bit.
